I am waiting for the AP discounts to come out (GF??? AKL???) Should I reserve now at the rack rate and apply the discount when they come??? Have never done this before in all my trips. What would a standard view cost from each hotel under the AP discount??

Yes should reserve now and apply the code when it comes out. We have done this in the past. I don't know if this has changed but once they wouldn't let me apply a discount to a ressie that I had made online, so now I always call CRO or WDTC. You might also find that the code will not be available on the room or days that you have already reserved but I have found that the CM's are really helpful in getting a discount applied by changing your ressie around their codes. January is a great time to visit because of the lower attendance so you should be able to get what you want. We've been going the last week of Jan for five years and I don't think that I could go in one of the crowded periods. Good luck!

Booking a room now only guarantees you that you room at the rate you booked it at. Discount codes are released when bookings are low. When you book a room ahead of time that's one room less that will be discounted. When you go at a non-crowded time, it's a possiblity that you can "apply" the code, but its not really to your room because that room is already booked. You are getting a discounted room that was not yet sold.Make any sense?

bring something warm thou, I took all my sisters, daughter and there kids a few years ago, I was there for 15 days. I froze by butt off, the day we landed it was 33 degree's and I could not find mittens anywhere! just be sure to pack 50/50 for the cold nights. but other then that...there was no lines, no crowds that was excellent!!! (I only wanted to forwarn about the possiabilty about it could have some cool days)

That makes sense, but are you saying that you should NOT book a room before the codes come out??? I booked our Contemporary room online and am paying rack rates. I just assumed once the codes come out I can apply the codes to my room, or what I'm really wanting to do is to upgrade our room to a castle view (from a standard view). Will they now just cancel my first ressie and reapply it (with the discount code) to another room?

This is all too confusing!!! lol.

I booked a room for February with the AAA discount, so that I won't have to pay rack rate, even if no further discounts come out, or there are no rooms available on my dates.

Kungaloosh!
Morticia.

was Super Bowl weekend about 21 years ago with my (then) 3 year old daughter. My favorite picture of her was in a ski parka, hat, mittens and scarf watching the evening parade (Main St.Electrical???). Now that I am...ahem, more mature with a ready source of heat (call it hot flashes), the cold weather sounds perfect!!! And Susy...what you wrote makes perfect sense!!!

We are booked in an AKL Savanna View room with a AAA Rate. We are hoping that when/if AP rates come out for the winter value season that we will be able to upgrade to Concierge for around $280 a night inc. taxes like we have the last two years.

I would reconmend booking the level of room you are willing to stay in at the rate you are willing to pay. I am hoping that they will discount AKL Concierge rooms as I am not willing to pay the currently avaiable discounted rate for that level of room. So I booked the level below. This way when they look at bookings my booking will not impact the decision making process for concierge level rooms.

I hope that makes sense.:D

I went ahead and booked AAA rate hoping for discounts later. I thought it was odd that I could only get AAA rate if I reserved 3 nights but could not get a AAA rate on a subet of those 3 nights. (I got WL for 199/night by booking Jan 8,9,10 but she said computer would not give it if I tried Jan 8,9.) Anyone had this problem?

Here's an example: In January 2003 I booked a room at the WL woods view (at rack rate) for wed-sun (5 nights) Thanksgiving weekend. At the time, the CM said not to forget to call back and apply an AP or FL resident rate. I got the same comment from every cm I spoke to over the next several months as we planned our trip. When the discounts finally came out, I was on the phone that morning at 7am. I got right right through and was not even placed on hold at all. NO discount. No availablity at all at WL. In less crowded times it may seem like you are appling a code to your reservation, but that's not really how it works. So, the more rooms that are booked ahead of time, the less rooms there are that will need to be discounted.
Usually, we wait for codes to come out, but you have to be flexible in that case.

I have AAA rates for two nights at the Boardwalk Inn January 7 - 9. No one said a thing about a three night min. We then change to the WL for Jan 9 - 17 with AAA, maybe that's why it was okay? It looks like we'll by at the WL at the same time!! Have Fun!!

Sounds like I'll be switching to a mod/value resort, wherever I can get a discount when they come out. WL would be fun but I won't hold my breath for the $109 rate.
