DH and I have booked a non-smoking king bed room at POR for our anniversary. I put a request for a mansion building with a river view on my ressie, and I am also going to fax it in 3 days before I get there.

For those of you who have stayed at a POR Mansion, can you comment on your experience. What was good, what wasn't, which building has a good locations, good views, etc. We dont mind walking to the food court/main building. I would like a corner room, though I am pretty certain that all king rooms are in the corners.

TIA!

We rode through POR for a visit recently and noted not all areas are OPEN. I would definately call seemed like oak monor & patere' place was the 2 mansions open and only 1/2 of the bayou was open.

We have stayed in oak manor had the corner river view and it was wonderful! It was non- smoking then not sure if it still is? The location was good and close to bridges. Longest walk was to the self parking lot, & bus depot. We actually only then used the main depot from the main building .. grab a quick bite and get on bus. Also when POR is totally open the manor bus depot is the LAST stop from pofq & rs so the bus usually filled up and going to the main building we always got on! ;)

We also stayed in alligator bayou once and really the inside of the rooms are really cool, more woodsy than our room at WL even! The manor rooms are ok, but the outside of the manor's are very impressive, you will feel like scarlett and rhett! :)

Stayed in Parterre Place in 1999. We had a really nice room and the building was beautiful. Grounds were beautiful as well. Parterre Place is a bit of a hike from the main building, but it's a pretty walk. We prefer the bayou area - we just like everything about the bayou!

Magnolia Terrace and Oak Manor are the 2 most popular mansions. They both appeared to be open when we were there in July. If you do stay in a mansion room, request to be near the river. This will give you a more central location! :p

Stayed in Magnolia Terrace. Close to a bus stop, nice clean rooms, short walk to pool. The walk to boatswain and reservation was little longer.

I also have stayed in Magnolia Terrace, we were very close to the pool, and buststops. But there was a long walk I think to the main building! We requested a corner room so we were facing the river I like those rooms much better because there is 2 windows so it is a lot brighter in the room. :earsgirl:

Stayed at the Mansions three times. Always had a great room and grounds were beautiful. Never had a problem there. From the main building just got to go over a bridge. The walk to the mansions is a bit long depending which one you're at. But, not nearly as long a walk from the main building to room of some other resorts like from the bus stop at All Star Music to the Country Inn I'd say.

We had a corner room in Acadian House in Oct. It was around the back and it was amazing. It was no more than a 5 min walk to food court and main building. And what a beautiful walk late at night We were only steps away from the north depot and there was never a line up there and we never had a bus pass us by because it was too full. We are going again in Sept and asked for mansion rooms again. I did not specify which one because from walking around I don't think the walks fron any of them are all that much different.

We've stayed in the Magnolia Terrace mansion 4x, & loved it each time. It's close to the main pool & the pool bar there has some good drinks. We liked to grab a drink there & take it back to the quiet pool, which is very near by. It is a walk to the main area, but not overly long & we think very romantic--especially at night. The upper floors have less foot traffic going by the rooms & are much quieter. Two of our favorite free romantic things to do are at POR. The boat to DD at night is one. The other is getting off the bus at POFQ (the first stop) after coming back from the parks at night & strolling the carriage path along the river back to our room at Magnolia Terrace. The streets of old New Orleans, the beautifully lit fountains, & the boats cruising by all make for a wonderful atmosphere. There are benches along the way to stop & just enjoy the magic of being at WDW. Hope you have a great trip!

Just a note to let you know Oak Manor is smoking optional. When we stayed there, all the doors had "no smoking" signs on them, but they told us it was smoking optional and many guests were smoking.

We stayed at Magnolia Terrace in Sept. 2000 and had a marvelous time! The theming is gorgeous, and the rooms are both comfortable and romantic. My wife and I agreed the beds were the most comfortable we had ever slept in. Be sure to take advantage of the quiet pool after you're done with the parks for the day! The mansions are a short and pleasant walk to transportation, food, and shopping. Have a great time!:bounce:

I've stayed in every mansion at POR (only King bed one that I had was in Acadian). My favorite was Magnolia Terrace. Also, Parterre Place had a nice River view and it's non-smoking. Magnolia Terrace seemed like a shorter walk to the main bus stop (only one I'll use).
