DLR started the birthday celebrations at DLR back in July/August. Ever since, I've been thinking about taking them up on the custom birthday celebration option. Has anyone else here done that? If so, what did you do and how much did it cost?

For those of you who may be considering this option, what types of things have you thought about requesting for your custom celebration?

Thanks for any input! I'm planning for a (cough, ack, ahem) *milestone* birthday in April.

We are doing the Plaza Inn one. It sounded the most fun decorating a cake and all and they said there were some games. It is only at 2pm though.

Kris,

We did the Plaza Inn celebration for my son's birthday and I just want to give you a heads up - beware the cake! The cake they served was not good. One in our party ate the cake and felt sick later on. Others, with better sense, didn't eat the chemical-tasting cake and were okay. All of us had to watch the icing because it stains your clothing and skin very easily.

I think the reason why it was good at all had to do with Mickey and Minnie being there for pictures. As I understand it, that's the only time the two of them are together in the park (besides parades.) Even in Toontown they're separate.

Anyway... make sure you're not wearing something that would be devastating to stain and avoid eating that cake. You'll be glad you didn't eat it!

Well the cake does worry me, and to find out it was gross....
So what all did they do there besides the cake and pictures? Would it just be better to go to Goofy's kitchen and get a pail? I just wanted it to be special.
I would love to know of anyone else's birthday ideas. I need to call to make the PS soon.

Kris,

I think the kids really enjoy the cake decorating contest. They give you enough cake decorations (sugary little disks, mini M&M's, and the other things you see in the typical baking aisle) and icing (which has the staining agent in it.) Then "Pat E. Cake" - the vivacious master of ceremonies - roams from table to table and tells jokes and judges the best decorated cake. Then, after he judges the cakes, Mickey and Minnie show up and stand with kids for pictures. I think to a kid this is a great experience. For a parent, it's great seeing your kid so happy.

As for Goofy's Kitchen and the Birthday Bucket versus the 2:00 daily birthday party - I'm not sure which is better. Maybe someone else here has done the birthday in a bucket scene?

I think most kids under age 9 or so would be happy with the Plaza Inn party. I think much older than that they're going to be bored and then you might consider a special arrangement - much like I'm trying to do for my *ahem* milestone birthday. If you look at this website you can see the birthday options:

Has anyone reading this done any of the birthday celebrations shown at the above site? It would be fantastic to get some feedback on what these packages are like.

Let me know if you have any other questions about the Plaza Inn birthday party.

I looked at the site and for an adult, I think the Fantasy Celebration sounds the best, but I don't know what the 'fee minimum' would be. Otherwise the bucket delivered to your table at a nice restaurant would be fun. Have a great birthday & vacation!
