Your opinions on Pop Century plez

I agree with the general consensus, Pop Century looks to be the most amazing piece of Americana since The Flamingo in Las Vegas - imagine - Pop Century is so incredibly tacky that it out tackies a building covered in neon lights and Bright Pink Plastic Flamingos....

Also - if you can see the resort from the road, guess what your view from the resort will be....

I'm guessing the same guy that thought up the 25th anniversary pink Cinderella "Cake-stle" got transferred to working on hotel theming...

I think I'll pass on Pop Century.

While I defended this place BEFORE I saw it, after seeing it last week in person- It is UGLY!!!! lol. And I love the All- Stars, the Pop century is just plain dumb looking. My Husband jokes that he' gives it 2 years before it's revamped into something else. We joked that we bet the same person who thought of getting rid of Figment(Journey to Imagination ride in Epcot) thought of the Pop Century;)

Plus the view from 1/2 the rooms will be the highway-yucky!

Don't do it, go to the All-Star movies instead. We went over to visit it and it was really cute, they have a great food court, plus it's a value level resort.

An ill-conceived idea that was poorly executed.

Other than that, its fine.

I just can't believe that somebody thought this was the best option for a theme.

If it ever opens and they offer it for $49.00 I'll try it for 2 or 3 nights. But it is butt ugly.

I had to laugh at this one! I haven't seen Pop Century yet, but the pictures are scary.

However, I remember going to WDW for the first time in 1997 and being so anxious to see the castle... and seeing that hideous pink THING. It looked like someone spilled a bottle of pepto bismol all over it. UGHHH

I think if I could see PC from CBR, it would deter me from staying there.

but, oh my,we saw pop century last month and it was hideous! You know those Disney contests you always see where if your entry is selected a family of four can win a trip? Guess where they're staying????

Crod.. I pass on the contest.

I read the interview with the resort's manager in wdwinfo... Oh, what a crack up! He is so thrilled and enthused you wonder what they were on. I don't think any other resort manager should envy his position. I'd like to read another interview after his reality bite. And one from the bubble gum pink 25th anniversary castle imagineers, and one from the Leave a Legacy mausoleum's...

I just can't believe that somebody thought this was the best option for a theme.
Why do I suppose I could bet on the ages and backgrounds of those who designed it?

As for the Movies being noisy, it was not my experience. It was very nice and quiet during August last year, and to this day it is still difficult to find a room during some dates! I stayed at the Sports in the Surf's Up area, right in front of the pool and had to call the lobby to have security come and quiet down some people at 3:00 AM. That resort was noisier, by far.

I think the idea was cute... the excution of it was TACKY!!! When we saw it, the only thing you could see was the 50's building, and that wasn't so bad... but after having heard of the "Wassup", "Dude", and "Where's the Beef?" slogans on the sides of the buildings, all I can say is that is a part of Americana that I could have lived the rest of my life without reliving! We aren't fond of All Stars, so I know that we will have no desire to stay at PC.

As for staying at CBR... you can see the "Albatross" from parts of it, but not all. Just avoid Trinidad South... I believe that is the area with the best...uh, ... I mean worst view of PC!

Personally, I have to agree that if the theming doesn't go over, that within 5 years they will redo it... well, we can always hope, can't we???

Let's put it this way....the only way I would EVER even consider staying at this resort is if they gave me a couple of free nights! Let's face it, for just a few bucks more, you could get a much nicer room just across I-4.

As for some of the slogans and sayings plastered all over everything, well, there's a reason those things are no longer popular!!

The cut-outs on the facade should read 'Edsel', 'New Coke', 'Susan B. Anthony Dollar' and '2002 Detroit Tigers'.
I honestly don't think I've ever seen anything this tacky associated with Disney.
I hope this isn't an indication of a new direction. After looking at the decorating scheme on 'Primeval Whirl' & this new joint, I believe we have reason to worry.

For a couple of free nights... Well, maybe. Considering I'd spend more time in the parks! But I got to be hurting deeply to choose second best...

Some of those slogans are indeed in bad taste. I mean, they may not be rude, but why the heck would they not dedicate an area to princesses, another to heroes, another to animals, and their slogans instead? Who in the world ran out of ideas and imagination?

This resort looks pathetic from any angle, and I wish the planners read the guests opinions before putting one more thing in concrete.

Fot some reason, after looking at the photos again -- PC reminds me of Denny's ("restaurants").
Must be the colors and the lettering.....

Agree, I don't think there are many guests who would purposely stay there.
I don't think kids would "get it" and I don't see that the theming really caters to adults either.
Humpbacks1962 had a much better theming idea!
If I wanted a cheap stay and ASMo was booked, then maybe.... Esp if it was a short stay. ;)
They need to tear the wording down and replace it with something (anything) much better and more Disney-like.
Other than being on site and a value resort, what would be the benefit of staying there?
Not many (any?) guests are going to want to be next to a highway. If I wanted that, I would stay at a Howard Johnson's. ;)
Yep, put the DinoRama next to it and all you then need are the weeds to over grow and cover it all for an improvement and give it atmosphere. ;)

Both Primeval Whirl and Pop Century look like they were developed by the same person that constructed the new Bill Knapp restaurants here in Michigan.

The classic Colonial exteriors were scrapped in lieu of a brightly colored garrish concept straight out of a Peter Maxx/Andy Warhol nightmare. I don't know what the interiors are like; the exteriors are so hideous that I won't go inside.

It turns out that a lot of people feel the same way I do. Knapp's announced last month that they are returning to the old facades. Evidently the 'pop' concept didn't do a lot for peoples appetites.

Sigh --- I miss Bill Knapp's.....
Mmmmmm... Bean soup and au gratin potatoes.... Are they still very tasty?
The only bad thing they had were their biscuits. More like large pellets. ;)
