Have you stayed in a stateroom close to elevators/stairs? If so, how was it? Lots of noise?

Yes, we have. I didn't find it particularly any noisier than a hotel room. Yes, you can hear people in the passageways (and sometimes they are not so quiet), but it didn't bother us that much.

On our first cruise, we stayed really close to the aft elevators on deck 7. We loved the location and weren't bothered by noise at all.

3 times we have stayed in a room that opens right into the mid ship elevator lobby on deck 8 and we have never been bothered by noise from it.

Our first cruise we stayed right off the midship elevator lobby. Our room door was visible from the lobby. I was worried about noise but found it extremely quiet. You would hear an occasional person in the hallway but we heard nothing from the lobby. It is now our preferred location and have chosen it 5 additional times. You can't beat the convenience.

I was concerned about this too. After our first cruise where i didn't pay attention to this, i found that we were walking what felt like miles to get to our cabin...obviously that's an exaggeration. But all cruises since then i have picked a cabin close to stairs and loved it. No noise and very convenient.

The one time we stayed midship it was on deck 7 on the Magic right near the elevators. We could hear the announcements made in the atrium during the day. We heard the auction going on one afternoon. They had the chairs set up in the middle of the atrium.

Would agree here. It's more about how loud your fellow guests are than the sounds from the elevator.

That said, I prefer to be as far away from the elevator as possible so I can burn off a couple more calories after I inevitably overeat whilst on board. :)

We've stayed on deck 7 (except forward) for both the Fantasy & the Dream. We loved the location as there was little, if any noticeable noise. What we really liked was the access to the stairs, which we used almost exclusively. No sweat to get top side & quick trip down to the shops & the restaurants.

We stayed midship on deck 7 on the Fantasy. You could see our door from the bottom of the stairs. I thought it could be loud at times especially when people were all going to the same place at the same time (for example right before each dinner seating). We could also hear kids running and jumping up and down the stairs when we were trying to go to sleep. It wasn't bad but next cruise I made sure we were a few rooms away from the elevators.

Midship deck 10 on the Fantasy TERRIBLE. Lots of foot traffic from the pool and food areas.

Twice we were near the elevators, different cruise same room which I choose and never heard a peep.

We were on Deck 7 Midship of the Fantasy. I was really impressed with how well the doors muffle sound. Maybe at most I could hear if someone was talking *right next* to our door, or the ship announcements (the ones not being piped in to the rooms) very faintly.

What I couldn't get used to, were the footsteps of children running, running, running -- all day, all night. It must be how the inner structure of the ship is built or something, that carries the echoes. I could hear them running on the floors above and below us as well. When my two year old toddled from one of our adjoining staterooms to the other, it sounded like a pack of dinosaurs! I was really tired of those footsteps by the end of the trip, to tell you the truth.

We've only been on the one cruise so far, so I don't know if I'd have had a different experience on a different deck/section of the ship.

Yep the foot traffic was noticeable... but I'm a night owl. By midnight... the sounds are gone.

I was up until 4:00 a.m. a couple of nights doing laundry (yay, mommy! :charac2:) . . . There are fewer kids, but there are quite a few still up and many still running!

We found it noticeable, but it generally only happened when you kind of expected it - around mealtimes or big events where people were moving en masse - so it was hard to be mad about it. It didn't ruin our cruise or anything, but it was irritating enough that I now look for cabins mid-way between elevators.

What is worse, IMO, is if you are in a cabin near those service doors the crew uses. They use those things day and night, and often aren't particularly quiet about it.

We were on deck 6 on the Magic right by the aft elevators. I loved it. Very quiet rooms, and it was a breeze getting to and from places. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

I imagine it it worse if you have the mid-ship detective agency game outside your room. Increase of children who aren't always the most quiet of folks.

Last cruise our room was deck 9 aft port side and room door opened into the elevator lobby. This deck 9 aft lobby also has 2 Mid-Ship Detective Agency terminals there.
While not unbearable, we did hear noise from this area, more so from kids doing Detective game than regular foot traffic. I feel if if Detective game wasn't there then noise wouldn't be an issue.

Bigger concern was we had to be careful when opening door because anyone that was in the lobby had a clear view into our room.
