All the kids are doing the Superman Dance, maybe even your's. But do you know the meaning behind the lyrics to this and many of the other rap songs that your kids/grandkids are listening to!

Ellen has people doing the dance on her show. Kids are doing the dance at school, on websites, etc. Cheerleaders are using it. Dance schools are using it.

They played the song at my kids Middle School fall dance this year and almost every kid (9-13) knew how to do it. Many of the people in the "Crank That" video are kids aged 8 to 18.

Anywho, what I'm getting at is the lyrics to the song and others like. This guy explains it well (be advised it is EXPLICIT):

You may not know what these songs mean but your kids do!

This is old news.

I've known about it since about October or so

I read about that a couple of months ago. Not what I want my kids emulating.

Everyone at school loves it. ITA with Kayla. I really dislike the song *and* dance.

Old news

Most of the kids I know doing the dance fall into one of two groups

Group 1 has no idea what the lyrics are or what they mean. They just like the beat and the dance.

Group 2 knows what the song means, but it's nothing they haven't heard before. They also like the beat and the words.

This isn't the first song with questionable/suggestive lyrics and it won't be the last.:confused3

If my kids are doing the dance and know the meaning of the words, I've got genius children!

I just really can't get myself worked up over something like this. I know the kind of music I listened to while in high school (and still listen to). Not exactly wholesome stuff. Yet I was still your sterotypical "good girl" - top of my class (5th out of 299), my choice of a full music OR academic scholarship, all-state musician and band captain, didn't drink, smoke, or party, very involved in church, etc. And while I did have premarital sex, it was only with my now dh and as an adult.

old news.

this isn't the first sexually explicit song, and its not the first that your kids have heard, either. :confused3

its just a fad. it'll be unpopular in about a month, and there will be a new guy with a new song and a new dance.

oh, and i hate the song. i hated it before i knew what it was talking about.

Yep...so just run along. Nothing to see here except for a bunch of 9, 10, 11, and 12 year olds dancing to a song with extremely crude, degrading, raunchy and expicit lyrics. This to shall pass until the next new song with even worse lyrics comes along (but don't worry...half of them don't even know what it means therefore making everything a-okay and you should just except it. :thumbsup2 ).

:sad2:

Gah, you know what, I'm not even going to bother arguing with you. Go ahead, get upset. You're only making Soulja boy more famous.

I would imagine the young kids who enjoy doing the dance don't even know what they are talking about, and I find this guy's video far more offensive than the song and I think this guy needs a hobby.

I did not know what that meant and probably would have been cool with never knowing what that meant. Never heard the song though, so I guess it really wasn't an issue. I agree with New Jersey though, I thought the guy doing the video was as offensive as the topic.

Yeah, well I know what I listened to and I have a different perspective as a parent. My mom would have flipped if she'd heard me jammin to AC/DC's "Given the Dog a Bone", along with many of their other wholesome lyrics.:lmao: The difference is though that my mom was blessed to remain ignorant because we kept it pretty much underground and didn't have videos and dances portraying the lyrics. It all makes Elvis the Pelvis seem so tame.:rotfl2:

I'd like to know if he isn't the writer or singer of the song.. How the heck does he KNOW what the meaning to the lyrics are? He is 1 person with 1 opinion..

Did you know Olivia Newton John sang songs about s. e. x.

DS (17) and all his friends like the song, sing it, do the dance.. They even have a group of them dancing to it in the school Parking lot on You Tube..

Heck it is a ring tone on my Cell phone..

Who really cares what the lyrics mean? People enjoy it or they don't for the Beat not for the opinionated meaning of the lyrics..

I knew it was a naughty song. It's not the first or last song to talk about sex.

The YouTube guy was too weird with his analysis. "This is for educational purposes only..." and his descriptions... Oh my. He acts like he is an authority.
