I think the adverage increase is about $5 to$10 a year or $50 to $100 for the 10 years with the exception of the values that is.

So now it is 10 years later and the 2007 prices are not far out of line with the 1997 concidering 10 years have gone by.

And yes, that statement is JMHO

What are your thoughts?

I don't really think the increase has been all that bad considering the 10 year span.

I'm not sure what else you want to know??

While I agree that the increase has not been that significant for a 10 year period, there are many that will disagree and say Disney has gotten out of hand with their pricing. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but expect a lot of negative responses to your post.

Heck, back in the late 70's and early eighties, we paid 75.00 for north garden wing at the Contemporary Resort, thought that was high then but wages have increased and prices have gone up. Days Inn used to be 22 bucks before, hard pressed to find a good, clean reputable hotel.motel for under 100 bucks. I have no propble with Disney room rates, look at all what you get.

Looking at the then and now I would agree that the change in prices is not that major. As for the question if things have gotten out of hand.... people still keep even the most expensive rooms full (but I do still say ouch each time we check out!)

It's all relative, we'll continue to go to WDW as long as we can afford it, but to this day I have yet to get as excited about a vacation as I do when going to Disney. With the 3 different levels of accomodations it's pretty much affordable for many.

On November 19, 1997 we booked our August 1998 trip for two adults, an eleven year old, and an eight year old.

We spent seven nights at the Beach Club (checked in August 13, 1998, checked out August 20, 1998).

We bought what were then called "Length of Stay" Passes, which were good from check-in till check out.

Our total price was $2,828.

That did not include meals, transportation (we rented a car), or plane tickets.

Our theory is that if you play you pay ... no matter where it is at ... we are just thankful that now our pocketbook can afford deluxes whereas 10 years ago we were stretching it to stay in moderates.

In 1991 we spent $170 for Poly concierge magic kingdom view. The concierge lounge was off to the left of the lobby.

I agree on both points.

I would also point out that there are far more targeted discounts now than in 1997, and that the pricing listed doesn't take into account the sharp drop after 9/11

I am not 100% sure but when Allstart sports/music/movie started taking reservation, they were offering $19/night...

i go to wdw numerous times a year, and think that the prices are getting just a little bit up there. even though i make a good wage i dont want to stay at a value resort , in my own opinion i think the value and moderate resorts are way to expensive for those that do not make as good a wage, and i think the price of tickets are ridiculous now for the average joe who really has to stay at the value resorts, they proberly can only afford to spend four or five days at the world, in which case the ticket prices are really getting up there, things i wish would happen? i wish they would bring back the old four and five day park hopper tickets, they really were all inclusiveand they never expired and you didnt have to pay extra for that option, my other regret is that i did not buy into dvc when they first came out, if i had known how many times i have be fortunate to go to the world, i would have invested. :surfweb: :surfweb: :surfweb:

Seeing those prices makes me feel a little better. See, my problem (and I completely realize it is *MY* problem, not necessarily a true problem) is that we started going to WDW as a family right after 9/11. WDW was trying to entice vistors with low rates, and we had nothing to compare it to, so we thought it was normal to pay $109 a night at AKL, or $130 a night at WL, or $49 (or was it $39???) at All Stars. The last time I stayed at WL, all they had was CY view, and at $250 a night, we actually cut our trip short. It is sad, but I just can't enjoy myself when paying THAT much for a room.

Obviously, Disney is not hurting. I tried to book a room for one night next week (Fri the 26th) and there is nothing at the values at all!:sad2:

I just wish I had today's salary with prices from 10 years ago.

I'm in sort of the same boat! The first time I stayed at AKL was shortly after 9/11, and I had a savannah view room for $124. (AP rate). I think that after staying there for that price, I have a hard time paying $230 for the same thing.

I'm having a similar problem with my upcoming trip, because I'm used to going during value season, but this time it's regular. When you're used to WL Woods for $140, $208 for standard just seems so wrong!!! (Ditto $140 for mods when you're used to $90!)

And you mentioned the 26th- it's not just the values that are sold out, but EVERYTHING! I've got a reservation at AS Sp the 26th & 27th, and I've been trying to change it to a Moderate for months now, but everything has been totally sold out!

I understand completly about having to pay higher after so many of us are used to the discounted rates that WDW offered after 9/11.
That is one of the reasons after looking at theprices in my 1997 Birnbaum's book I wanted to share the info.

BTW
The reason it is so hard to find a room on WDW property for Oct. 26 is because ......
From this thread:

......the Florida Republican Convention is happening this weekend at the Shingle Creek Resort and the FL Democratic Convention will be held next weekend (October 26-28) at the Yacht & Beach Club. ...

Heck, back in the late 70's and early eighties... Days Inn used to be 22 bucks before,...
I remember Days Inn being $8.00 a night in the seventies and the rising sun use to have a big number $8 with small text including per night within the sun graphic. Days Lodges were $12-18 depending on the location. Once they claimed a share of the lodging market their prices started to rise.
