HI I recently bought a semi-detached house. The dining (18' ceiling) and living room are quite narrow. See virtual tour (pictures are bit stretched, actual area not as big) :

or the image gallery : http://tours.advirtours.com/tours/11/37/113749/images/gallery.html

What color of paint should be put on the wall to make it look brighter and bigger ? Any constructive suggestion along with sample pictures etc would be great !!

In term of what furnitures to buy, I first thought about buying a 3 seater sofa against in the living room (exactly where the previous owner's piano is located ) . But then i surely will have a piano given by my mom in law. It thought usually it's better off to show the piano in living room rather than basement(no room to put in tv room) So i probably put the same type of piano in the same spot where the previous owner put, as shown in the video. So maybe buy 2 chairs at the Bay window area.

I thought about putting Expedit (4x4) divider in between dining and living room, but i think it will only make both rooms look small because as you see from the video, imagine if the divider is located too close to the bottom of the staircase, not much space in between, it will make everythng looks smaller rather.

In term of dimension, dining room is 144" x 97" , living room is 142" x 94"
Thanks
TC.

there is too much white right now, so you def need some color and you can brighten it up by using color and a bright white trim. I like spa-ish colors, like dark green and bright grays but you really have to pick colors YOU like.

Try this website:

Try buying some small samples of the colors you like and paint squares on your wall then you can see how they look in the day and night.

Nice house, lots of space but I agree it needs some color. I would do something like mabey green for the living and dining area.

The headache i have is , in truth, both dining room and living room are narrow, so difficult to put things like sofa ( i can't put sofa that is too wide) otherwise, there is no space to walk between sofa and the bottom of the staircase

Not color advice but I'd move the dining table closer to the beautiful window-the chair could be in the bay of the window and put the piano on the wall opposite the window.

Ok, color advice- I'd love a raspberry color in that room. It would contrast beautifully with the floors, staircase and the table. It would also warm up the space. Keep the valances over the windows and get curtains to match. It will give the curtains weight and balance the high ceiling.

I just saw your problem with a sofa. In that case, I'd just move the piano down the wall a bit and put a love seat on the wall opposite the window. Add a chair
