Your first day?

My DH and I decided this year once we get to our resort we should be there by 10am that first thing we are doing is going pool side. After that we plan to go to DTD and catch the new Captain America movie at AMC. Then we will finish the day off at Wolfgang Puck express.

We're flying in late in the evening (9pm) midweek. We are staying that night at a value resort. We wake up in the morning and will head directly to the MK for early magic hours. Our luggage will be transferred to the Wilderness Lodge for us. We've done the late arrival and hotel swap before and its quite efficient With the Magic bands this time, we don't even have to stop at the WL to get our passes.

This trip we are starting with the 9am Keys to the Kingdom tour. A couple fast passes, then off to WL for check in and dinner. Then back to MK for the night parade and Wishes.

Ahhhh....................Disney. pixiedust:

Our first day always begins with us arriving after 8pm at the airport. Both DH and I will have put in a full day at work. After driving two hours to get to the airport we eventually board. Once we arrive at MCO it is off to a rental car and to our resort. Once checked in we start washing the wrinkled clothes, and take off to a grocery store. Once back at our room do some more wash and finally get to bed somewhere around 1am. We both look forward to the next day which we consider our first actual vacation day. :cheer2::cheer2:

On our first two trips, we arrived between 1:30-3:30. We checked in at the resort and headed out to a park. We arrived late though and didn't get to do much. Our girls were dying just to look around the resort & get into the pool. On our last two trips, we did just that. Since our flight arrived around 3:30 (and we'd left our house around 5:30 a.m., so it had already been a long day), we felt staying at the resort and getting in the pool was the best way to kick off the trip. On our upcoming trip, we're driving for the first time, so we're going to stay at an offsite hotel for the first night. We're going to spend the day at DTD. We plan on waking up early, heading to our resort to check in , & hitting the parks to start a full day off.

Either we hit a park (Epcot) or, if the day is nice, spend it poolside with a Pina Colava. :-)

DH and I always arrive about 10 AM ( early direct flight out of New England ). :woohoo: Our room has always been ready for us ( thank-you mouse keeping ) , so , check in and drop our bags and jump on the first bus to DTD. Then we go across the street to the Hess station and purchase a twelve pack of beer for the room refrigerator. Take that back and put it in to chill and go to MK. :cool1: I know that sounds kind of cheesy , but , when we get back to the room all tired , a" cold one " sure hits the spot while you relax in your jammies :rolleyes1. That twelve pack will last the two of us all week and we have even given some " extras" to neighbors when we were leaving :rotfl2:

We always take the earliest flight to Orlando and the last flight back home, which makes it feel like 2 extra days! When we arrive around 11AM, we check in, drop off the carry ons, head to MK for lunch at Columbia Harbour House, ride what we can, then head to DTD for dinner and Ghirardelli's. :goodvibes

We are in the same boat. Hoping to see UK while at Disney as we also leave in 12 days. Not likely, but here is hoping! DH and I were "dreaming" about where we would watch the game if it actually happened.

OP here. Thanks for all the replies...reading now to try and get my mind off basketball. My Jayhawks lost. :( So no Disney final four for us this year. A bummer. We are crazy fans so there is a period of mourning when we lose in the tournament. Our home state could end up with two teams in the final four so we will be glad to be away from all of it on spring break.

Fun to read about everyone's first days. I love nearly every minute of any vacation with my family but there is something very special about the first day at Disney.

A few of you who replied at Kentucky fans. Congrats on your win today.

Flying in from L.A., we've got the time change working against us, so even with an early morning flight we can't get to our hotel until dinner time. We have a quick service dinner (although last trip I was outvoted and we had a full service one) and then head to the nearest park for fireworks.

You see, that's one good thing about the time change - my normally sleepy daughter is wide awake on that first day since she's still wired to L.A. time! Last trip she saw IllumiNations, the first fireworks she'd ever seen.

This upcoming trip it'll be Wishes followed by the Main Street Electrical Parade! We're staying at the Poly so it'll be a quick monorail ride there and back.

First day, we usually arrive by air around noon-1 and get to the resort and check in, unpack and head to Hoop de doo Revue. Taking the boat back so we can see the castle at night. Head to bed early so we can make rope drop our first park day! Woot!
