Your favorite WDW ride....now extinct?

My boyfriend also told me that there used to be a type of boat ride in the moat around Cinderella Castle...but I do not remember this. Does anyone else??

(Sorry if someone else posted this; I read most of the posts but might have missed one.) There were swan boats at the castle. You can still see the ride track.

Anyway, the ride I miss is the original Journey Into Imagination. I first rode it in 1983 when I was 7. I loved it!

Here's some good websites for nostalgia lovers:

Widen Your World

Epcot Discovery Center

Yesterland (mostly DL, not WDW)

I agree with "If you had Wings'. I can remember as a teen running out of tickets. (I think E tix were the good rides. As I remember I'd always go home with A tix left.) We'd ride on it 4 or 5 times in a row. We'd also run over to the Contemporary and go to their game room. It was the biggest gameroom I'd ever seen in my life. I swear it used to be bigger than it is now. I also liked the Main Street Cinema with Charlie Chaplin movies but I always wished that there were seats there like in a real movie theater. Oh & that Walt Disney Story movie that they used to have.

And I do remember those Swan Boats in front of Cinderella's Castle. I didn't really like that ride. They had minature scenery things to look at and as a teen I thought it looked bad. I was also totally amazed the first time I saw Circlevision, America the Beautiful. (Just wished there were seats. I felt like I was always standing. Thats why I went on "if you had wings', I could finally sit.)

I remember the first time I went to Magic Kingdom, my brother & sil thought that the only way you could get to Tomorrowland from Fantasyland was to ride the skyride.

I also remember camping at WDW and swimming was allowed at the beach. But I was always afraid of gators, so I never would.

WOW! So that's what those look like. I always wondered why it looked like a ride was in that moat once...and now I know.

I love "old ride" stories. Anyone remember Boardwalk and Baseball in Hanes City?! :)

Stepharoonie, I never went to Boardwalk & Baseball but did go to CircusWorld twice. It was in the same place as Boardwalk & Baseball. I remember watching the circus, getting my face painted & wanting to be selected for the audience participation show. I never got picked & was so disapointed. I think that was the main problem with the place. If you didn't get selected you just spent your time watching. They also added some sort of a rollercoaster - it was the first time I ever looped on a coaster & I was terrified. I loved the concept but they needed more stuff to do. It would have been great if there had been a way for everyone to participate. As I remember it took about 1/2 a day to go thru.

Another one who misses Horizons, in fact I miss the old Future World. My goodness, we spent a lot of time there in the olden days.

I remember Circus World fondly. That was also the first looping coaster I ever went on. My son had his face painted there and I bought all the makeup to do this at home (and I did for many Halloweens). There were also quite a few shows. There was a huge screen movie, a magic show, a circus show under the big top. They had indoor displays of miniature circus set ups. There was a parade everyday and all the children were asked to participate. There were other rides, though not too many. We went there 3 times and each time they had added more. This was at a time when Disney only had the Magic Kingdom.

I remember the day the shut down Circus World...I was one of the last people in the park. Then they turned it into BoardWalk and Baseball....my first ever REAL rollercoaster ride was on the Hurricane there!

It's sad to see places like that go. :(

I also remember Xanadu the HOUSE OF THE FUTURE in Kissimmee. It's still standing, creepy looking as ever :)

It was my first year to teach. I had 34 third graders in the lower part of South Carolina. I thought it would have been wonderful to take my students with me on that trip. They would have been amazed. They would have loved the Swan Boats. Most of them had not even been to Charleston 30 miles away! Boy the memories. Things do change!

I can't choose between Delta Dream Flight and Mr. Toads Wild Ride.

but everytime I think of the Tapestry of Natins Parade - and know it is gone! - I want to cry!!!

Hey La - Hey La Hey La - SSOOOOOBBB!

3: World of Motion
2: Horizions
but
#1 the ORIGINAL IMAGINATION.

:(

I miss Mr Toad's Wild Ride so much! And also, I miss Carousel of Progress... yes i kno, its not totally closed, but its only open on certain occasions.. and of course, when I go, its not open!

I miss Tapestry of Nations the most, followed by Horizons.

The Swan Ride!

I think they removed the tracks from the water in the last few years...

Count me in as missing Horizons too. My oldest son adored the submarines on his first trip at age 2. I remember climbing down into those subs at least 4 or 5 times on that trip! Does anyone remember "Magic Journeys" which was the Three D movie where the Lion King show went in at MK and where "Philharmagic" is now? I thought that was kind of a neat little movie, not very "flashy" but pleasant and relaxing.

I don't remember Magic Journeys being there, but I remember the Mickey Mouse Revue being there. I remember liking that show, but it was so long ago since I saw it, I can't remember too much about it.
