I'm going next weekend with my Gram and we're trying to keep this trip cheap. :lmao:

We usually go to a TS for all our dinners, but we have one night with no ADR's. I was thinking it would be nice to go to a CS at another resort that night. We're staying at POP so we will be eating breakfasts there. I'd like to go somewhere else for a Resort CS dinner because we like touring the resorts. So where would you go?

I went to Capt Cook's (at Poly) for breakfast, and I wouldn't hesitate to try there for dinner as well (I know you can get a Dole Whip there!). I've read really good things about Mara (at AKL) and Contemp Cafe (at CR), and plan to try those on our next trip. As a bonus, at the AKL you can watch the animals on the savannah. :hippie:

The Riverside Mill (at POR) was really good, and we'd go there again. They have a "build-your-own" pasta station in addition to the usual CS fare. You customize your dinner, choosing which style pasta/ which meat/ which sauce, and all the veggie add-ins you want. I had Penne Shrimp Alfredo, with mushrooms and roasted red peppers, and it was VERY good! DH had an old-fashioned turkey dinner, and everything was tasty. :thumbsup2

We even had a couple good lunches at Pop... calzone and parmesan chicken were both really good.

Have a great trip!!

Capt Cooks at the Poly because the have amazing chicken lo mein and the Hawaiian BBQ pork sandwich with house made chips is to die for

Since there is no bus service from resort to resort could go to DTD then enjoy the boat ride to POR or POFQ.:)

Pepper Market at CSR is very good, but a bit more expensive than other CS locations with a 10% service charge if you are not on a dining plan. Cloth napkins, real plates and silverware, most food is made to order fresh at each station and there are ample selections unlike the limited menus at some CS places. The resort grounds are beautiful for a stroll.

If DTD is in your plans, WPE CS at the Marketplace has very good food too.

The Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary because it's got a great atmopshere and a lot of the food on their menu tastes amazing. My personal favorite is the Chicken Ceasar Salad with the dressing already insde, which is so good that it's hard to describe and something you need to experience for yourself. Plus all their Salads are made fresh each time you order them, so they are not pre-made and sit in a fridge all day.

I like the AllStars food court, and I'm looking forward to trying Contempo Cafe and maybe Captain Cook's next month. I don't like the Poly, but the menu for Captain Cook's looks really good.

We'll have a car, so we can go to any resort easily.

We're trying WPE on our arrival night.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I think I'm leaning towards The Mara or Captain Cook's.

Theads like this really help out the new people too....hmmm soo many choices; maybe I should just go to all of them :coffee:

The Mara at AKL gets my vote. I have not seen it busy every, probably becasue AKL & AKV have such great TS places, that very few people do a CS. The food certainly won't blow you away, but the resort itself will if you enjoy walking around and checking things out. I'd also recomend grabbing a glass of South African wine at Victorian Falls (the bar overlooking Boma). If you do go to Mara, you might want to also take a walk over to AKV as they have several animals on the savanaas there that are not present at AKL.

Yeah we wouldn't really be going for the food so much as to see the resort. Which is why I'm leaning towards Mara or Capt Cooks.

What I REALLY want to do is book an ADR for Flying Fish but I keep having to mentally slap myself when I look at the available times! :rotfl:

Just back from a 9-day trip at POR. I was very pleased with their food court, especially at dinnertime. They have two great CS options for dinner:

The first is a "build your own" pasta bar (where you choose the pasta, the sauce, chicken or shrimp, and about 12 other items such as sun-dried tomatoes and peas to mix in). I had shrimp, fettucini, alfredo sauce, and lots of sun-dried tomatoes - it was wonderful! Much too much for one person to eat - it would be a great entree to split with someone.

I also loved their hand-carved turkey dinner. It's a very generous portion of turkey breast, plus your choice of sides like mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, mixed veggies, and cornbread. It was so good I had it three different nights. It was so nice to have some "comfort" food - something like I'd eat for dinner at home. It seemed much more healthy and tasty than a hamburger.

Fort Wilderness has great counter service meals. They have some sandwiches that are fantastic. They are not just ordinary sandwiches but really, really good. We've enjoyed some meals from the Grand Floridian as well.
