Your favorite breed of dog (s)?

My first dog was a German Shepard,,,Prince,,,,,then we took care of my grandmother's dog,,,Chu Chu Baby, a Boston Terrier. My husband & I got a French Bulldog,,,,Butch. He could burp, snore, fart with the best of em. :rotfl: He was the best ever. :) My son has a Golden,,my sister has a Cavilier King Charles Spaniel. The best hunting dog ever was our Brittany,,Fergus, after one time training with pigeons with the Grouse scent, he looked at my husband with the look "So enough already, give me the real thing." He was the best until he got arthritis really bad after running into a van and broke his pelvis.

Great Danes - trying to convince hubby to let me have one. He's concerned about the size of their poops, and ruining our lawn.

Be more concerned that they usually develpo hip problems and don't live all that long.... I love them too but won't get one for those reasons.

1. Newfoundland
2. Great Dane
3. German Shepard
4. Mastiff
5. Doberman

My favorite is the Alaskan Malamute. They are such beautiful dogs. I hope to eventually have at least one. I also like Siberian Huskies & Samoyeds. :dog2:

We've owned three Boston Terriers, a Doberman, two St. Bernards and we are now owned by our Standard Poodle. This dog is by far the cleanest of them all. He's a big poodle, about 75lb, but he's calm unless he thinks you might throw a ball. The Saint shed like a fiend and slobbered buckets--make peace with drool before you get one. The Bostons had no more sense than the Three Stooges--what a bunch of doofus dogs! ANd teh Dobie was smart as a whip. She and my Standrd Poodle tie for smartest, easiest to train, and least likely to get pushed around by a stranger. All good dogs.

My next one will be a smaller poodle :dog2:

Lowchen:dog: we have a two year old called Izzy and he's wonderful :goodvibes he doesn't shed which is a bonus and has brilliant temperament!

also love Border Collies & German shepherd's :paw:

I have 2 doxies! i adore them! They are the sweetest..although hard to house train.

A breed I would love to heave would either be an Irish Setter or a Airdele terrior (sp?). I think they are both beautiful!

My parents have 4 Great Danes! They are sweet but that have horse size poos and are just too huge for me! lol

1 Lab because that's what we have now and I've never had a dog that's as nice in my life. I had a golden once and she was too hyper!

2. Toy American Eskimo - This is the one my daughter and I have been waiting for such a long time for.

We were going to get the 2nd dog this year, but when we found a stray kitten (about 3-4 weeks old), what could we do? She couldn't even eat yet! We had no choice, right?

I have a Flat-Coated Retriever who is an angel! And he's very protective of his family. When DS was about 4 years old, a new babysitter (male kid of a friend) came in with us. Max went and sat down next to DS and GROWLED at the sitter! :) DS said any time the kid got too close to him, Max would growl at him. :teeth: I would get another one in a second! They're a wonderful breed.

I am taking my girls to a great dane breeder today to consider buying a new puppy. They are due this week.

I grew up w/ Shelties and they are so intelligent and nice.

My DH and I got our first dog about 10 yrs ago when we were still living in a townhome. We did a lot of research and decided he was perfect for us. We decided on a Newfoundland who grew to about 170 lbs. at his biggest. He was docile, loving and sweet. He barely barked and was VERY intimidating to everyone just w/ his sheer size alone. They have a low metabolism and he was perfectly happy to be cooped up in our little home. We eventually moved to a property close to State Game Lands w/ no neighbors in sight. We had no fence and he would just sit out front and watch the squirrels and birds and wander a bit sniffing the trees, but NEVER took off on us. He always stayed close to home. And the kids could roll all over him and he would just take it.... Very sweet tempered. We would take him on hikes w/o a leash and he would follow close behind or when he led, he would look back to make sure we were caught up to him. My DS at 3 yrs old could walk him on a leash w/ no problems even though our Newfie towered over him. He never chewed up anything and was not in the least bit destructive w/ furniture or such.

Some of the difficulties w/ that breed..... They have a double coat and the tumbleweeds of fur flying thru my house were overwhelming. Their coats are also oily and he would brush up against our walls and leave greasy black film up to waist high. Then he would fall asleep on his back, kick his paws onto the walls and run in his sleep, scratching the paint and drywall off our walls in certain locations. They can be ravenous and he has been known to rummage thru our garbage if there is an open can around. But we could just lay a baby gate across an open door (w/o locking it, just propping it up) and he wouldn't push it over to get thru.... Unless there was a cupcake on the other side. I had to give him Ipicac many times when he ate leftover chicken, lobster, whatever. He needed brushed all the time, although he could sit for 3 hours while we did it w/ no complaints. And they can have hip problems due to their size and bad skin conditions due to their heavy coats. We took ours to a specialist in Wash DC and had to give him shots, shave his hot areas, and wash and treat them when he got older. But he sat patiently thru all of it since his pain tolerance was so high. And they don't live long.

I can't imagine having any other breed. As long as you train them early and teach them about pack order, they are a wonderful, loving breed and are perfect for children. But they are such high maintenance. I did love how I could just let him outside and he would just meander around the house all day. I never had to take him out on a cold winter night on a leash. We just lost him to old age/bad skin condition in June and I miss him so. He was 9. He was such a big ole bear. What a wonderful breed!

Boston Terriers
Labs
Bulldogs
Mastiffs
Greyhounds

I've only had the first two but I plan to own a bulldog and a mastiff at some point. I can say only good things about both labs and boston terriers. They are such fun dogs. If we had room right now we'd have a greyhound. I was just reading an article that a track is closing and there are going to be about 400 available for rescue in my area. I have heard nothing but good things about them, they are different than people expect and don't need much but a comfy place to sleep. It's a good chance to change an animal's life.
