Your Favorite '80's Memory

I remember the Christmas that I got my beloved Atari 2600 and all time favorite game, Frogger. I thought I was the stuff!

Other memories would be of running free without a care in the world. I remember climbing rock piles, building forts, catching frogs, turtles, snakes, and lizards (can you tell that I was a tomboy??), staying out ALL DAY LONG, only coming home long enough to grab a bite to eat then heading right back out until it was time to come home and go to bed. ( I'm lucky if I can get my kids to step outside on the porch!!)

Ooooh! I almost forgot about my Cabbage Patch doll! My mom's boyfriend was a truck driver for TG&Y (do they even have these stores anymore???) and had a truck full of them. He would bootleg the dolls for a huge profit. (yes, I know this was very wrong, please don't lecture, I was probably 8 or 10 at the time) He had a stack of the dolls in his living room and there was one that I just fell in love with. I begged and begged my mom to let me have it. She kept telling me no so I fell asleep on the couch hugging this doll in his big ole box. He ended up giving me the doll as a gift. I named him Mark Austin (Mark, after a boy that I had a HUGE crush on in 2nd grade. Oddly enough I happened to see this guy last night and he didn't seem nearly as cute as he did way back then, lol)

CindyB....I know who Robert Smith is!!!! And I'm picturing his hair on you right now!!!!!!!!;)

B52's.....Rock Lobster!

ROFL! My son looks at me like I'm nuts when I tell him that when I was a kid we played outside EVERY DAY after school until Mom called us to come in. And on Saturday morning, I got to watch one cartoon and was then chased outside until dusk.

My favorite 80's memories would be my high school graduation in 1983, my wedding in 1983 and the birth of my dd Ashli in 1984.

"Debating who in Duran Duran is hottest"

That is SUCH a no-brainer.... John Taylor! DUH! LOL

I loved the 80's.... party party party. Calvin Raspberry Coolers came in a 2 liter bottle...rotfl!

I graduated in 89 too, there were so many memories!!

What ever happened to Alan Hunter anyway?

I remember those rubber braceletes that we used to wear 20 of on each wrist, gummy shoes ( YUCK!!!) early eighties Moon boots ( double yuck! WITH bread bags for liners so my feet wouldnt get wet  ), good music, line dancing  , punk hair cuts ( my mom threatened if I came home with a punk cut she would march me right back and get my haircut to 2 inches then PERM IT!!), the clothes, no socks, and hockey!!

I haven't heard anything about him in years. I remember when he was a VJ he was always messing up his lines and saying the wrong things. My friends and I always thought he did that on purpose and used to call them "Hunterisms" and even made it into a drinking game :teeth:. I read a few years ago that he actually really did have trouble and the producers wanted to fire him, but he was too popular so they kept him around

Those rubber bracelets are back.. many of my students are wearing them in the 7th grade... and they are either looped or bangeled...

And I dare say I saw a pair of pants with zippers yesterday that looked suspiciously like a pair of parachute pants....

(And a student was wearing it!)

moving from FL to AL:(

I was a teenager in the 80's. There was fun to be had..even in Alabama.

Though I must admit that one of my best summers was capped off by a week long stay in Cocoa Beach...

My friend and I were in love with all of the English bands, especially Duran Duran. In 8th grade we went to their concert in Philadelphia.

Hey Alan! No offense to AL but moving from the beaches of FL as a sophomore in HS to the TN valley...leaving my best friends since first grade....that was a bummer.

I was in Titusville, not far from Cocoa Beach. And yes, Alabama offered it's own fun...as my first kiss was here!:o

Gosh, what a great time!

I remember going to my first concert in... I think it was 1987. Depeche Mode opened for A-ha!

And I remember watching Thundercats religiously. Ah, the good old days.

Daisy;)

Take on me.....that was a great song....the video always made me really depressed...seeing him banging into the walls trying to "get out" of the cartoon. And Depeche Mode opening for them??? I can't imagine DM being the opening act for anyone! They are/always will be my favorite.

Anyone remember....."you spin me right round baby right round like a record baby, right round round round"? (At least that's how we sang it...)

Amy

I sorta had Robert Smith hair too, but I was more punk than the Cure. :p

My favorite memory would have to be my first real "show", Husker Du. I also met my first boyfriend there. I think it was '86.

Cindy B~ Dancin On Air!!!! Now there's a memory so far in the recesses of my brain that I would have never recalled it had I not read your post. I went to Helene Fuld School of Nursing in Camden and each week a couple of girls from the dorm would go and dance on that show. I never went but often sat w/ the other dorm girls and laughed as we watched the funny faces our friends would make while dancing. Do you remember the hosts name? I can picture his face clearly.

Oh yeah! My sister has a Dead or Alive video that we like to watch for a good laugh every now and then. Now days I don't think people would think he dresses so oddly. I still can't believe how great that guy's legs looked! It's funny to see a man with much prettier legs than any woman I know.

Another great memory: my 1st trip to WDW in 1985!! That is BEFORE MGM and AK!!!

I also remember Dancin' On Air! LOL I think the host was a local DJ, I don't know the name.

Other memories:

The Phillies winning the World Series in 1980.

Culture Club and Boy George- those are the days when crossdressing was actually a SHOCKING thing!

I loved 12inch LP singles!

I graduated HS in 1987

I loved Dead Or Alive, Duran Duran, the Cure and the Smiths and Howard Jones.

the music was my favorite thing about the 80's, just ask my sister Julie_Yet......

i would sit and listen and write down the lyrics to every song that came on the radio, strange you say.... maybe....
oh..... did "anyone, anyone" even mention Ferris Bueller's Day Off??????

Other than being a teenager, then a wife, then a mother in the 80's, the best thing about the decade had to be the movies!

The Breakfast Club
Sixteen Candles
Pretty in Pink
St. Elmo's Fire
National Lampoon's Vacation
Tootsie
Mr. Mom
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Stripes
Ghostbusters
Caddyshack
Heathers
Poltergeist
Raising Arizona
The Lost Boys

I could go on and on and on....

The hosts name.. hmm... he was just recently on the radio here in Philly as a DJ. He was on 96.5 in the mornings before Barsky took over . Barsky has been there for maybe a month (don't listen anymore)... but he was there then. Can't remember his name either, but can hear his voice.

He mentioned Dancin on Air a few times.. but not excessively.

I have a funny Dancin on Air story. I used to watch early 80's.. and well would recognize the "regulars". Flash forward to 1990. I am meeting a girl at church, and I am just looking and looking at her... I finally say "You look really familiar"

She then plays with her hair poofs it out, and starts singing the Dancin on Air theme... you know , the synthesizer notes (doot, doot, doot, doot) Dancin on Air...

She was a regular on the show... and years later I was a close friend on hers... She now lives in Vegas!

I graduated in 1988. I did the Robert Smith look for a long time.. and then I had a David Byrne look too... I wore oversize mens suits..a lot to school.. complete with some surplus army clothes , some black leggings underneath long black skirts/and denim jacket with safety pins.. I had black Chucks that were painted different colors... and of course not one but two pairs of combat boots... my favorite T shirts were my Kate Bush one, and my Sid and Nancy Love Stinks T shirt...
