Your Favorite '80's Memory

Here are my memories of the 80's. I graduated HS in '83. The senior class always dressed up for Halloween and here is what I found in my yearbook:

A group of girls dressed up like the Go Go girls

Me and my friends dressed up like Ms. Pac Man complete with the 4 ghosts

4 girls who dressed up like a bunch of canisters, complete with the "mushroom" pattern that was very popular back then.

And here is one for the Buffalonian's of the board - 2 guys dressed up as Whammy Weenies! For everyone else, whammy weenies were these hard plastic pickle shaped things that were used at Buffalo Bills games. You shook them and they made noise. I am having trouble remembering the whole premise and this is sounding very weird.

I also was looking for some old jewelry yesterday and came across a necklace from the 80's that I always wore. It was a black rubber cord with a silver star on it! I had the complete set of rubber bracelets too, along with a pair of sequined Madonna boots. Ewwwwww!

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. ;)

My grandfather died in 1986.

I met DH in 1989! :bounce: :bounce:

Hmmm. I was a teenager in the '80s, which was good and bad. I met DH in '88 and graduated in '89, so that was a good thing. I have to say that I still like some of the clothes, but I'm so glad the HAIR has not come back in fashion. I think I helped put that hole in the ozone layer with the amount of Aquanet that I used!!:o

Ahhhhh the 80's! Wish I could go back there for just a day!

I remember dressing up as a Smurf in 1982 for Halloween! Graduated in '84, my best friend died in '88 and I met my husband 2 months later.

I loved the big hair, tight spandax pants, pumps, big hoop earrings, punk rockers, watching "Valley Girl" with Nick Cage over and over, Cabbage Patch kids...the good old days............

I was only around 3, but my favorite 80s cartoon had to be Jem and the Holograms!!! I would watch it on the couch whenever it was on...that and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Oh, come on, Saffron, don't be a threadcrapper...;)

Anyway, I'm an 80s baby (born in 1982), and though I've grown to love the decade (EVEN THE FASHIONS *AND* THE HAIR...DEAL WITH IT!:p ), here's what I can remember:

My dad was still alive, and he introduced me to classic rock music of the 60s and 70s.

I discovered the joys of Michael Jackson's music, before he turned into a frightening being.

I can remember when The Disney Channel was for ALL ages and it played a goodly amount of Disney programming as well.

"Totally Minnie"...This was the Disney special from 1987 that set the wheels turning for a full-blown love of the 80s. Unfortunately, that love wouldn't come to fruition until a decade and change later, but either way, RATT beats Nirvana by the length of the Atlantic Ocean, the Boston Marathon and the entire circumference of Walt Disney World.

The 90s were a rotten, horrible time for me...Middle school, high school, the death of my father, a stay in a mental hospital-cum- juvenile detention center, the gradual slipping of my grades, a brutal beating in the 7th grade while a teacher stood by and did nothing except exonerate the bully and send ME to the principal's office where I got what was probably my 23rd In School Suspension...It's a wonder I made it out of the 90s alive and without any casualties.

Give me the 80s any day.

Sincerely,

John "anotherboardnposter" Kilduff

I'm MTV generation! Teenager throughout the 80s... So, where to start?

Princess Diana's wedding. (I was in Hong Kong. Their wedding day was a holiday for a couple of years).

Watching Madonna for the first time. Like a virgin...ooooh...touch for the very first..... My mom turned it off immediately.

Debating who in Duran Duran is hottest.

Coming to USA in 84 for vacation. Going to Disneyland for the first time. Right then and there, I decided I must migrate to this country, and subsequently join DIS and DVC.

Good old times. ;)

man Iloved the 80's.

The original 5: Nina, JJ, Mark, Martha and Alan :D

I spent the last half of the 80's attending every heavy metal concert that came through Richmond (and they were plentiful!)

I wore too much hairspray, too much eye liner and my pants were too tight lol

And I could quote you every line from every great 80's teen angst movie...esp The Breakfast Club

I graduated in 89

I loved the eighties!!!! I was just a kid when they started (7)...and almost an "adult" when they ended(17), so ALL great/terrible childhood memories are wrapped up in that decade.

Middle school dances...first dance with a boy to "Everytime You Go Away" by Paul Young

My own telephone....all the slumber parties....rolling people's houses:o ....MTV was actually MUSIC television and I had to BEG my mom to let me watch (she too went into shock at Madonna's "Like a Virgin") I didn't get what all the uproar was about...ahhhh to be young and naive again!

High school....flag corp/band trips.....moving from FL to AL:(

My first real kiss.....

The music was the best.....

A threadcrapper!

ROTFLOL! I like that, I have to remember it. :p ;)

Now see, by your father's taste in music I can guess that we probably grew up during the same time period. THOSE were the good ol 'days. ;) :p

Sounds like you had a rough time in the 90's kiddo. I'm sorry. :( I hope the new century is full of great things for you. :)

The 80's were good to me. Graduated from HS in 80, married in 82, had DD in 84 and DS in 88. We will have our 21st wedding anniversary in Sept. Hard to believe so much time has slipped away!:p

I loved the 80s too! I graduated in "82".
I was actually Punk back then (OMG) LOL
Listening to Devo, the Clash,Blonde, the Ramones
Then I moved into the big hair phase and going to bars. Back then the drinking age for us was 18. Thankfully I moved on to be a more semi conservative person, unlike my best friend of the time . I saw her about 7 yrs after high school and she was still punked out! She and her boyfriend came into town and stayed with me , I kept thinking "My neighbors are going to think I am being held hostage or something" lol

:p

YEs, I remember the five original VJ's as well on MTV (extra points if you can name them all in ten seconds or less)

Videos exploding on the scene.

Dancin' on Air (this was a local dance show in Philly.. it was on early-mid 80's)

Seeing amazing new trends in music, fashion, style, and preferences.... (it was in some ways OK to be different, but also you were labeled "weird" in the same category)

Wearing my Robert Smith hair (Some of you are saying Who is Robert Smith)

Remembering the B52's before Love Shack!

Can't remember the other two...but I can picture them like it was yesterday :D

Graduated in 83(20th reunion coming up), married in 83(20yr anniversary in Oct.), son born in 84(he'll be 19 next week). The cabbage patch craze and ninja turtles.

I also lost 2 very good friends in 86. Definately a decade with it's ups and downs.

The 80's were a blast. Graduated from HS in 1981, college in 1985, grad school in 1987. Loved living and going to school in Manhattan. Oh to be young and carefree again! :)
