Yippee!! Here we go again!!! We're headed back to the World on December 8 of 2008....yikes, that's a long time.....anyway, it's taken me this long since our last trip, (in October) to get back on the boards due to withdrawal! :sad2:

So, we stayed at the BC in October, LOVED it, but want to try something new I think! Tell me your fave deluxe! We've also done Poly, and love love love that too. I'm wondering about CR or WL?? Maybe time for Poly again?? Help!! By the way, we've never gone in December before, so I'm totally excited!!!! :santa:

Thanks a million!!

I noticed you didn't mention the Grand Floridian, but for the best holiday decorations and atmosphere, that is THE deluxe resort to stay at! And the GF has the only life-sized gingerbread house at WDW!

Why do I feel like the GF is too fancy for us? :) Maybe it isn't, and we *do* love a deluxe.....I don't know!! My hubby always thinks that with four kids, we're too loud for the GF!! Seriously. We're at Disney World!!!! :wizard: I've watched the special on tv about the gingerbread house, and I'm always in awe.....

I'm puzzled by people who think the GF is too stuffy or fancy because it's not. We see LOTS of families with kids who stay there. As someone who loves a deluxe, you should stay at the GF at least once during the holidays and you'll see that the GF is the ultimate Christmas resort... :)

Thanks for your perspective on GF not being too stuffy. My wife thought the GF would be too formal and fancy. We are staying at the Poly Christmas week, and plan to walk over to the GF to see the gingerbread house. Maybe we'll reconsider for next trip. We picked the Poly for this trip, because we stayed there before and had a FABULOUS time, and know what to expect.

I've heard from some friends that the WL is decorated really nice for the Christmas holiday.

BTW, the big draw for my wife wanting to go to Disney this Christmas is the decorations. Until I met the Mrs, from a kid up, I went to Disney EVERY Christmas because I spent Christmas week with my grandparents in FL. I have been telling her about WDW at Christmas for years, ever since we've been married. We've never been able to go anywhere over Christmas for a couple reasons, but now those reasons are gone, and she out-of-the-blue said, "let's go to Disney for Christmas".

Never mind the CROWDS... We're going to DisneyWorld!!

BTW, when I retire, I want to be an 'old fart greeter' or some other 'meet the public' type of job at WDW. I'm practicing, "Welcome to Walt Disney World, the most Magical place on earth. What can I do for you today!" :wizard:

The only deluxe I'm not all that fond of is AKL, partly due to the location, and partly due to the view (when I stayed there, I could see the savannah AND all the traffic whizzing by on Hwy 192 - I prefer not to see reality so clearly when I'm at Disney).

I would base it on whatever theme appeals to you the most and which parks you tend to spend the most time in. I find WL to be a little more relaxing than the monorail resorts, mainly because of the boat ride that takes you to MK. However, it does have smaller rooms than the other MK resorts. But all of the MK area resorts are fun during the holidays. I picked CR for my mini-trip next week for the ease of getting to both MK and Epcot. I love to be able to walk back and forth from MK, especially at closing time when transportation can get hectic. It's also nice to have the option of taking an MK bus from an Epcot resort and then walking back to CR at the end of a long Epcot day instead of fighting for the monorail at the front of the park.

I have also stayed in the Epcot resorts around the holidays (last year it was BCV), and those are great as well. Although most people choose Y&BC because of Stormalong Bay, it's also nice to stay on the Boardwalk side where it's almost an equal distance to walk to the Studios or Epcot. I tend to go to Disney when the weather is cooler so walking is a viable option (if you were going in July - no way!). I really enjoyed not having to fight the traffic (either in my own car or on a bus) to see the lights at the Studios. We tried that by car one year, and it was a total disaster.

I think so long as the location and theme are appealing to your family, you'll have a great trip!

The Grand Floridian & the Wilderness Lodge are the best when it comes to Christmas decor & feel, IMHO. Our favorite is the GF (Christmas or not), and believe me, if they let my family stay at the GF, then anyone (willing to pay the $$) is welcome there!

I'd also suggest either the Grand Floridian or the Wilderness Lodge! Both are very nice during the holidays!!! We've stayed at the Grand Floridian in early December (haven't stayed at the WL in Dec yet). The GF is definitely NOT stuffy at all - they were very accomodating to my family.

Early December is definitely my favorite time to visit Disneyworld!!!

I'd suggest the WL. I prefer it's 'rustic' setting to the more formal GF but that's me. ;) The decorations are gorgeous and very well-themed to the resort. :thumbsup2 Plus there's the boat launch to the MK.

We're Poly lovers and while we're staying there for Christmas '08, this Christmas we'll be at the AKL.

GF is our favorite ANYTIME! It is especially magical at Christmas- we'll be there next week! It is very kid friendly, just elegant as well! We have 2 kids, stay concierge and they are very comfortable everywhere at the GF!:)

Have a great trip wherever you decide to stay!:)

We love the Poly any time of year. We have tried other resorts in every level.

One December we stayed at the CSR to try and save a few $$ since it was around Christmas time. What a big mistake.

We tried the BC this Sept. because the girls wanted to try the pool out. Were glad we did, it was fun, but we added two days on while there to go to the Poly, we missed it that much!

Yes were sick and there is no cure!:rotfl:

The Poly is nice at Christmas too. Just different, and the GF is only a stop away with more traditional stuff. We like the tropical anything so maybe that is why we like the Poly so much.

So tell me, why is early December your favorite time? I'm trying to talk other extended family members into early Dec, and they think I'm wrong about it being so nice then. I haven't ever been in December at all, so I could use some good reasons myself! We usually go in late October/early November, and have also been during Easter. (crazy time!!!)

Thank you!!! :)

Thank you!! We DO love the Poly as well, and think it's time to go there again! You'll HAVE to tell us how you liked your 1st cruise!! That's another thing on my to do list!!!!! Have a blast!!!! :goodvibes

:rotfl2: That's pretty much how I feel about my troops too. ;) Gotta love them though!!!

Well, if you love Christmas, then you will love Disney in December, because they go crazy with the decorating, theming, and entertainment.

I think of Christmas as kind of a magical holiday, and WDW as a magical place to go. So, combine the two, and it makes for quite a magical place.

And really, if you go any time up until a couple of days before Christmas, the place is not too crowded, and the rates are cheap (well, relative to other times of year).

we stayed at the poly this trip and ate dinner at the GF and hubby said we should try it next trip, but I said we would be kicked out for the kids being so loud and rambunctious!!!! maybe not!

I thought the BWI was a great Christmas resort. Great decorations in and outside, and in walking distance of Christmas around the world, one of my favorite annual events.

our favorite deluxe is the Grand Floridian.
Our 2nd favorite is the Wilderness Lodge.

but really the GF - far and away - we just love it there...
