I've been looking for a really great tomato based spaghetti sauce. What are your favorites. Anyone have one that can be made in a crock pot?

half cup of chopped fine onions
half cup of chopped fine green peppers
half cup or less of chopped fine celery.....
I first saute my hamburg (we like a meat sauce)....and add the trinity posted above...
either on the stove or in crock pot......I put in two large cans of tomatoes that have been blended or two large cans of tomato sauce....one large can of tomato paste with equal water too....
mix throughly and start on high until it comes to a boil.......
I also have made my meatballs up and put in the sauce to cook all day.....I add italian seasonings....or if you would like garlic powder....oregano.....and lots of it......
I also have boiled chicken parts before hand and take off the skin of the chicken and put the parts in bone and all and cook it in it...
this is cheap chicken caccitore
half way thru.....I add a few tablespoons of sugar to cut down on the acidity of the tomato sauce....

Ragu out of the jar! For real! I make terrible sauce! But may try Pumba's!

In addition to the tomatoes, paste, garlic, oregano, basil, etc. I add a little bit of baking soda to help cut the acid & either a little bit of sugar or cinnamon. Don't ask me how much is a little bit because I never measure the ingredients I put in sauce :).

1/2 onion
5-6 cloves of fresh garlic
3 cans stewed tomatoes (or whole tomatoes depends on how chunky you want it)
2 cans tomatoe sauce
1 or 2 cans tomatoe paste (depends on how thick you want it)
Parsley
enough sugar to take the bite out of it.
a little olive oil.

Put a little olive oil (enough to lightly coat the bottom of the pot) in the pot over a medium heat. Add minced onion and crushed garlic...cook until golden brown-BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVER COOK THE GARLIC! add the rest of your ingredients and let simmer over medium heat for about an hour to an hour and a 1/2...add parsley and sugar to taste...
after about you've simmered over medium heat -turn to low and let simmer for the rest of the day...until time to serve....
If you are going to add meatballs...make them and add them and some of the grease to the sauce about 1/2 way thru the day...let the meat infuse into the sauce.
Enjoy!

My recipe is similar to the above poster:

1 lg onion chopped
6 to 8 garlic cloves, minced
3 cans (14 oz) stewed tomatoes (Italian style)
1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste (Italian style) add more if not thick
spices: oregano and basil

Saute onions and garlic in oil until tender. Remove from heat. Add meat and brown until crumbled and no longer pink. I then remove from heat and drain the meat on a plate covered with a paper towel. Then, I return the meat and onions and garlic back to the pan. I add all the canned ingredients and dried oregano and basil, salt & pepper to taste. I bring to a boil then, I lower the heat and let it simmer for about 45 minutes.

HTH,
Tina

doctor up a little ragu!
add a little italian seasoning, garlic, maybe make meatballs if I feel like it, or just gound up hamburg!

Leaves more time for MB's or scrapping and dh thinks I SLAVED all day!

just don't let them see the jar in the trash!

Patty I knew your were my sole mate LOL! I add hamberger and a few other stuff!

Great minds think alike!
Good thing taste doesn't matter to my DH just portion size!

I add brown sugar to my sauce and everyone loves it. Try it.

At a local farmer's market, I have been introduced to yellow tomatoes. They have less acid. When I have cooked them down to freeze, they are much thicker than red ones. Interesting ...

I love yellow tomatoes to eat! For spagetti sauce I fry 1chub of Italian sausage and 1lb of ground beef to 3 or 4 jars of prepared sauce and simmer. With the left over sauce I make soup the next day. The next day I will add 3 cans of red beans, hand full of chopped carrot, green pepper, celery and onion and water until its like soup and simmer for 1 hours and its great! Sometimes I will add a handful of pasta shells to the soup.
