What do you pack for snacks? I am looking for new ideas for me and dd 5. Keep in mind we are flying, so small and light would be good.....

Hi. I am a backpacker. So, my backpacking expierence pays off here. Celery and string cheese is a great snack. You can go at least 24 hours without refrigeration. My friend and her son are picky eaters and this one has always gone over well with them. For longer times, peanut butter and jelly, on a english muffin (english muffins tend to hold up better in a backpack than regular bread.) I've made these the early a.m of a trip for the following morning breakfast and they have been fine. Then you have the standards, that will last for (just about) ever, beef jerky, trail mix, fruit leather (also know as fruit roll-ups), boxed juices and water. These are just a few of my favorites, hope it helped you get started. Have fun. :earsboy:

Since we drive out to California we usually pack up the car with our boxes of snacks. I start buying stuff like a months before we leave. I usually get Cheez Its, Granola bars, snack pack Pringles,Pretzels, fruit snacks, Nutri-Grain bars, peanut butter crackers, gatorade and water. We put it all out so that in the morning my Fiance and Son pick out what they want and stock up for the morning and when we go back to the hotel in the afternoon they stock up some more. I usually got to wal mart or Costco for all my stuff. They have more stuff in bulk and individual packets.

I usually get the Disney snacks at the grocery store...Disney cold cereal, Disney fruit snacks, disney juice boxes, etc etc

That way we feel like we are in the magic and not being our usual cheapskate selves, but in actuality, are saving a ton. Its so cool, when someone begs for a mickey mouse shaped rice krispie treat at the park to be able to pull out something just as cool that cost pennies vs dollars.

I used Energy Bars this time.. and then what fruit happened to be at the free Breakfast at our motel. Those at a bagel with a jam or two. I filled my sons (3 1/5 yrs old) sippy cup every morning with the complimentary juice. Then refilled it with water during the day. This could have held the two of us all day, but usually we ran across my family who didn't bring any food and we ate together.

We love the Crystal Lite "on-the-go" drink mixes. If you haven't seen them, they are little tubes of lemonade you can mix into your bottled water. Target and Wal-Mart both have store brands and there are several different flavors. The packaging holds up well in the fanny pack, but I always carry them in a snack baggie--just in case! They are sold in the drink mixes section of the grocery store.

Happy planning!

I second the Crystal Lite on the go mixes, yummy and makes fountain water taste 100 times better. Also, I am a HUUUUGE fan of taking the Smuckers Uncrustables.
Uncrustables

Also, string cheese, granola bars, breakfast bars and Disney fruit snacks.

I get the crystal light mixes also. If you have a smaller child or even for yourself you should freeze juice boxes the night before and they stay cold for most of the next day. We did this for my neice who was 7 at the time and it worked out well. I also get granola bars and prepackaged bags of popcorn/chips/pretzels. Try twizzlers or lollipops for some candy that won't melt.

We like to pack things that wont get smushed. Trail Mix, pringles, granola bars, fruit snacks, cheese and crackers packs and water. I try to get the individual packs if possible, if not, I put them into baggies.
