OK, I need to know about shoes. We will be on the Wonder and ds,13 is expected (by his dm --me!!) to dress according to the DCL requests for dinner. He has excepted that he will not be wearing sandels. Would boat shoes work? ......Thanks

My 15 and 11 year old DS, wore topsiders (boat shoes) to every dinner with the exception of formal night. They look very good with a sport coat and khakis when those are called for as well.

Myself (14) just wore Sneakers to dinner every night except for formal night where I wore my Loafers. Sneakers work fine for normal nights as nobody will see your feet under the table anyway (or for that matter much care).

travel with kids,

This is so funny. I was worried about the shoes, too. I figured the best I can hope for is getting my son to keep his Samba's clean and as CGBatch said, hide his feet under the table. It's either that, or I'm afraid I'm in for a big battle. Who knows though, maybe the pixie dust will settle in and he'll agree to wear whatever I suggest!

My son once forget to pack his formal shoes and wound up wearing his slippers to formal night. They were brown and actually matched his suit but I still knew they were slippers!!! I then thought...at least he thought enough about his family to attend dinner with us.....not all 16 year olds want to dine with their family anymore!!!

DS was 15 on our last cruise (although he looks older as he stands 6'1") and wore slides with his dress pants most nights. A similar look to boat shoes and he was fine.

On formal and semi-formal night he wore a tux we rented but I had him pack his black lace choir shoes as I know these are reasonably comfortable and they are dressy enough to wear with a tux.

Gotta agree, boat shoes are fine. No worries. If you're going to have him dress a little more formal, then have him start shopping for really comfortable dress shoes now. Nothing worse than sitting through dinner in uncomfortable shoes. Don't know how you ladies do it sometimes.

I'm a young man (mid 40's) and I am wearing sandals to ALL of the dinners (yes, including formal and semi-formal nights). I'm easy to spot because I'm also wearing dark socks with those sandals to dinner. But no, I'm not wearing shorts to dinner, I'm wearing slacks.

I have to agree with DMS_cruisers04 to get your dress shoes early. I worked in a shoe department for 2 years, and mens shoes take a lot longer to wear in then ladies (especially if they aren't leather).

If you do get leather shoes, and this applies to both men and women, one thing to keep in mind is shoe softner, it works wonders at softening up stiff leather.

I personally have a shoe fetish, and everytime I pack, it's a struggle for me not to bring all my shoes :crazy:

Don't I know it....she puts them in the suitcase and when she's not looking I take them out!!:rolleyes: ( Talking about Katdb)

:wave2: Love Mom

... and when mom (wenabre) isn't looking, I stuff them back in:tongue:

And not only are there shoes to consider, but bathing suits and clothes!!!! At least my clothes fold small, so I can bring a lot more (I never end up wearing everything, but since we're cruising for two weeks this time, I'll probably get through all my packed things!!!)

I Can stand up and say;
Hi, I'm Katdb and I'm addiected to buying shoes:crazy:
