Young Children and Pin Trading or Collecting

How young have your children been when you have started purchasing them the pins? DD will be almost 2 1/2 when we go again and while I am sure she will not be interested in trading I thought she may like to wear the lanyard with some cute pins. Does anyone have any experience with their younger children wearing the lanyards?

We never trade--we buy ones we like and wear them and then put them on a corkboard to admire until next trip. Can'y really help with the age thing because this style of pin is a fairly new thing.

My oldest son started trading pins when he was in Kindergarten. We quickly learned to only bring pins he didn't like for trading. He spent one sleepless night crying over the first pin he traded. He missed that pin. He is now 12 and still only brings pins he doesn't want or has more than one for trading. He's limited his collecting down to lanyard pins and Chip and Dale. He stores his special pins in a homemade binder of a 3 ring zippered notebook and places the pins on foam sheets we previously had punch with a 3 ring hole punch. The pins he wants to display, he puts on a cork board.

Not sure about how young kids start trading their pins, but I would think your DD would love to wear the lanyard and collect a few pins. Just don't go overboard and load the lanyard up since they can get pretty darn heavy! My DGD started by collecting only princess pins. At 10 now, she still is not interested in trading, but loves shopping for special ones to add to her collection. But once it's on that lanyard, she is NOT going to give it up!

My DD started collecting them on our trip last year when she was 3.5 and wore them on a lanyard. She didn't understand about trading last year, I explained it to her again this year for our upcoming trip but she doesn't seem interested in trading them yet.
