Youch! Lone Ranger review...

We will be going to see it. May be a little bias though, as "Silver" was bred in
Wellandport, Ontario, Canada, at Blazing Colours Farm; A few minutes drive from our home. Two white thoroughbred colts sired by him reside there today. Silver's real name is Cloud Ten! :thumbsup2

Way cool. Loved that horse.

LOVED IT! the whole movie was great but the last 30minutes is outstanding. The theater was packed today and there was a standing ovation at the end. We went with two decidedly NOT Johnny Depp fans and they loved it too. We are definitely going to see it again!

Moviegoers are giving the movie, much better reviews, than the critics. Hopefully, we can see it this weekend.

Saw the movie and loved it! My 12 year old dd loved it as well.

If you try to compare it to the old series (which is what some critics have done) then it can be disappointing.

However on it's own it's a great film.

Although at the theater we saw it at just as the big scene with the trains starts at the end we had to evacuate from the theater. Luckily it was a false alarm and they let us back in to finish the film. They also gave us free passes to see another movie for the confusion.

My 3 kids and I saw it yesterday. We all enjoyed it!! I'm really glad we didn't listen to the critic reviews. I can't wait to buy it on dvd when it comes out. There were times when it got a little "slow" but otherwise it was good and there were plenty of laughs.

Me too. :thumbsup2 I can see this becoming on of our "go to" movies, right up there with POTC, GWTW, and Les Mis

We just saw it this afternoon and really enjoyed it! I'm also glad we didn't listen to the critics because normally I do. I usually agree with Rotten Tomatoes reviews but this time I didn't. I'm glad I listened to the Dis'ers!

Love me some Johnny Depp!!

He did review both Scooby-Doo movies.

He hated the first: http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/scooby-doo-2002

He hated the second movie slightly less: http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/scooby-doo-2-monsters-unleashed-2004

He never claimed that the movies were beneath him, simply that he was never a Scooby-Doo fan growing up, and nothing about the first film enticed him into becoming a fan now. He said there were probably reviews written by Scooby-Doo fans that were better informed about the material than his review was, and suggested those fans find those reviews instead.

When he reviewed the second movie, he admitted that he'd written a particularly harsh review of the first film. He wasn't crazy about the sequel either, but he didn't hate it as much as he hated the first one, which is the only reason why he gave it an extra star.

They were actually very fair reviews. They were negative, but he gave his reasons why and even admitted that he simply wasn't the audience for these movies.

Nope. I'm talking about the original review that ran in the newspaper. All self important drivel about how he was above reviewing the movie, and he very clearly admitted to not even seeing the movie. I'm aware these are different, I noted the changes to the Ya-Ya Sisterhood in my original post.

Yet he obviously did see both films and reviewed them, and even admitted to being harsh on the first one. Both of those reviews appeared on the Sun-Times' website, so even if the print version had something different, he still reviewed them both, and fairly.

Again, these are the Scooby-Doo movies...which are awful movies anyway.

Saw LR last night and loved it!!! Maybe not quite as much as Pirates but still loved it. Very funny.

As to the discussion about the Scooby Doo movies--whether he saw them or not, he was right, they were awful!! DD was/is a huge Scooby Doo fan and slept through the first one. It was kinda fun to see the characters portrayed in real life but that lasted about 60 seconds.

I liked Lone Ranger. It's not as good as Pirates, but it was entertaining, exciting, and let's face it... features JD in all his glory. That makes it a must-see for me.

DH and I thoroughly enjoyed it and the Wiiliam Tell Overture scene could not been more exciting. :)

Just saw it again. Good as the first time! These critics must be smoking crack.

It's not just the critics but the public which tends to like everything isn't giving it particularly good reviews either. It's at 68% at rotten tomatoes. Way better than the critics but still not all that good. Even worse, the numbers indicate that most of the public isn't interested. This movie was expensive so that's not good. :(

I personally ignore reviews in general though and see what I want. ;)

Saw it this afternoon, me and DS loved it and DH just liked it. He thinks Johnny is too Jack Sparrow now, I think he's just jealous of Johnny's perfection!;)

Maybe people were expecting it to be another POTC, but POTC is an amazingly, once every 10 years good kind of movie. I liked this WAY better than Avatar, and that's getting it's own land.

I enjoyed the movie, I saw it twice. I liked watching it a second time. I was able to see it the day after the world premiere which was exciting. I did not have to listen to any critic reviews since it was an early screening for Disneyland Annual Passport holders. The world premiere was amazing. All the money from the $1,000 per person to walk the red carpet went to a good cause as a donation to the American Indian College Fund.
