That is what the guy who just happened to be working in the area said to me after knocking at my door. I said "really, I need more"? And he says yes, with all the snow melting off your roof you're losing a ton of heat from the roof.
So I says let's go around back and look and don't you know there is a ton of snow on the back of the roof.
Now the front of the house faces where the sun hits it during the day and our shingles are black so I ask how can I have so much heat leaving the roof from out front than the back.
And you know he didn't have an answer...

:rotfl: Ever wonder if these folks actually believe themselves or if it's just a sales tactic. :rotfl:

Hmmmm, maybe he was hoping you'd be easy prey? How dare you know what to look for?! ;)

He's probably googling like crazy right now trying to get an answer for you. :rotfl2:

A window guy came to the house the other day, hoping to set-up an appointment. He began with "I see you still have the original windows..."

Nope, we replaced all the windows about 5 years ago, but thanks! :rotfl:

The easiest way to tell if your house has insulation issues on the roof in Northern/Snow prone climates is icicles. The bigger they are, the more heat is escaping then freezing as the water gets colder as it moves away from the house.

According to my husband who has an insulation company, is a home inspector and and Energy Star rater, he was trying to scam you. Good job :thumbsup2

LOL I got a guy a couple weeks back, he was talking installing windows, I said "no thanks, ours are only 4 years old" then he asks about installing flooring, I said "no thanks, ours is only 4 years old", then he asks about a new roof, I said "no thanks, can you see where this is going?" He looked very confused so I bailed him out and said "we had a house fire just under 5 years ago, everything you're asking about is brand new, in fact the whole house is basically brand new except 1 item that was salvaged in our master bathroom (the master bath vanity cabinet was cleaned and reused)." He says "what about your patio? do you have a patio cover?" I said "yup, it was installed before we moved in" LOL I felt bad for the guy, but it was sort of funny.

OP glad you proved the guy wrong, they always come by and try to sell me stuff when DBF isn't home...

'We were doing some work in your neighborhood..." Buddy, get off my porch!

I was at my inlaws when one of those meat sellers came by. You know the ones with the large freezer in the back of their tiny truck? The guy came out trying to sell MDFIL some steaks. Granted he is an easy sell and often entertains the thought of many infomercial products so he doesn't need much persuasion me on the other hand I am skeptical and critical and a smart-a....well ya know.

So I quietly stand by and watch his schpeel then he shows a great deal he has on "Porterhouse" steaks. I ask him a few times to confirm that they are porterhouses, he does. Then I proceed to tell MDFIL that those are in fact Ny strip steaks, that a porterhouse has a large filet on the other side of the bone in addition to the strip steak. The guy didn't know what to say I just replied my DH is a meatcutter at Safeway. Sorry I know my cuts of meat. (Besides I'm fat, I know my food! :rotfl:)

I don't know if he really thought it was a porterhouse or if he thought we were so poor we have never seen one or just so gullible we'd believe him? Either way I was offended.

we had a disturbing encounter with door-to-door people yesterday. DH wasn't home. 2 guys came to the door about energy choice (had the permit from our town...it was about gas). They opened my storm door, got RIGHT up against the big door, and knocked. I saw them coming up to the door, so answered within seconds and they were totally crowded into my doorway. I am a HUGE "personal space" person. I tend to step OUTSIDE if I am talking to a door-to-door person, rather than let them see into my living room.

ANyway, they told me they have to see my gas bill. I refused, but the fact is, aren't they just supposed to OFFER to price-compare?! I had to get really tough with them to get them to walk away. And I locked the door immediately. I don't know why I was so shaken, just like they could have shoved into my house if they'd moved 4 inches closer, KWIM?

Anyone know, if I put a "No solicitations" sign on the front door, does that include energy choice people, etc?

We got a call several years ago from a siding company. They started to tell me that they were driving by my "house" and noticed that my siding was in bad shape and they had an estimate for me. I asked them to run down what they saw, what needed to be fixed, etc. He started in on some "missing siding" or whatever. I just kept agreeing with him. He got through the spiel and I asked to confirm our address, he did, and double checked that he drove by our "house", "sure, just the other day> I started laughing-we were living in a BRICK apartment building at the time :lmao:.
