You might get a thousand dollars stimulus package

I'm not the poster you quoted, but I feel the same. We will definitely get some money and I plan to donate it to my local food bank and community outreach center.

Even after the treasury secretary said a few days ago that millionaires wouldn't get it, looks like everyone will! (Not saying we're millionaires, we are retired old people)

Actually the bill looks like it's in for a fight. The Democrats aren't very fond of a payout to Americans and would rather re-work unemployment.

About 11-12 years ago I worked in Australia and there was a similar scheme to try and stave off a recession. We were all given AUS$900 and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd asked us to spend it to keep the economy going and not save it. Everytime I bought a bag or a pair of shoes I said 'Kevin made me buy them'.

[/QUOTActually I’ve heard that the Dems want a bigger payout to workers and smaller ball out for airlines

so many plans being floated, I guess we won’t really know until they come to an agreement

Can someone please clarify who is eligible for this?
Is it families who earn less than $99K total income?

Our total income is over $99K combined.

I believe the original proposal stated a $75,000 cap for individuals - not sure the household income

certain dems , from what I've read - there are some that are asking for a larger payout

there are some republicans that are against the payout as well , so this could drag out awhile

As others have states, this is just a proposal in the Senate right now and has not been passed, so we don't know if it will come to fruition or it could change.

As it's written though:

For married couples filing joint income tax returns, $150,000 is the cap to receive the full $2400 as a couple. If your combined income on your 2018 taxes was between $150,001- $198,000, then you receive a lesser amount based on your earnings over $150,000, with those making greater than $198,000 receiving zero. You also would get $500 per child.

For single adults or those filing separately, the max is $75,000 to receive the full $1200 per adult. Income from $75,001- $99,000 receive a reduced amount, with those earning more than $98,000 receiving zero. Plus you would get $500 per child.

There's also a requirement that you earned at least $2500 in income for the year (social security and veteran benefits count toward that). And individuals or families that had zero or small net income tax liability for 2018 would also get less than the full amount, but at least $600/ individual or $1200/ married, along with the $500 per child.

What about retired people who don't file?

Again, nothing has been passed yet. For the Senate Republican bill that was just proposed, people would qualify if they had at least $2500 in income to include social security and veterans benefits. If they did not actually pay anything in taxes in 2018, they would be limited to $600 individual/$1200 married couple. They would have had to had income or SS/VA benefits of at least $2500 for the year though.

Thank you so much! I tried finding this info on a google search and was unsuccessful. I'm glad to hear about the $150K cap for couples. Hope it goes through!

The package the senate proposed has individuals who have an adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less & households of $150,000 Or less. If you make more than that then it’s reduced by a certain amount for however much over you are. But, there would be a cap at individuals that make $99,000 & households who make $199,000. If you’re in that range, you wouldn’t get anything.

NPR.org has the info on their website.

I’m also guessing that they’ll base it on 2018 taxes since it’s the AGI they’re looking at & not everyone has filed 2019 taxes yet.

They are working yes but a meal or a cup of coffee to keep them going is still helpful , most are working far more hours then normally and overtime suspended . They are out while most people are at home , let’s also not forget the volunteer first responders that are not being paid at all and coming in to HELP .

Volunteers I agree. I can’t really see supplying lunches to people that are working and making good money.

My state just "launched a new program to provide short-term, no-interest loans to bars, restaurants, taverns and motels struggling to cover operating expenses because of the economic toll of the coronavirus pandemic."

This is in addition to adjusting the liquor laws to allow curb-side alcohol purchases and applies to retail liquor stores, drinking establishments, class A and B clubs, farm wineries, microbreweries, microdistilleries and producers who hold liquor licenses. Great news for places like a bar where alcohol was their primary source of sales and would likely shut down if their curbside/delivery/take out food sales weren't enough to justify staying open.

Do people who didn't file get the $600 as things stand right now?

So my oldest kiddo who was in college in 2019 and still a dependent won't be seeing any of this stimulus money, right? She did have income over 2500 then, but thinking if we claimed her she wouldn't qualify (as it's written now).

Dang wish they'd go off 2019 tax returns and if you haven't filed then go off 2018 for you.

I'm taking a wild guess, but I don't think you'd qualify. :)

You'd be wrong. My "income" is well within guidelines. I do have substantial assets, but so far as I know, the government doesn't track that. :-)

Only if they have at least $2500 in income (social security and VA benefits count toward that number). They don't have to have filed taxes, but have to have received at least $2500 for the year either in income or the SS/VA benefits. If they didn't receive at least $2500, then no, they would not receive the stimulus proposed by the Senate. And this would be based on numbers from tax year 2018.

Again, just so no one gets confused, nothing has been passed yet and the proposal could change.

The bill says that anyone who was claimed on someone else's tax return would not receive their own stimulus check. So if you claimed her, she would not get her own check. The part that I couldn't figure out in reading the bill is whether or not those 18+ who are claimed on someone else's taxes would qualify for the child stimulus of $500 given to parents for kids. I couldn't find anything in the bill to indicate one way or another.

I agree that it would be nice if they went off of 2019 for those who have filed (obviously stay with 2018 for those who haven't). Personally for us in 2018, our tax liability wasn't high enough to get more than the proposed $600/ adult, but if they used 2019, we would qualify for the whole amount of $1200 ea.

Latest proposal that is close to being signed off on -
$1,200 per adult American - based on qualifying - $75,000 CAP - $100,000 household cap
$500 per child

POSSIBLY two checks
First check within 2 weeks
Based on 2018 tax.return , which would have direct deposit info
if the DD bounces back, a manual check would be mailed

So, qualifying family of four - two adults , 2 children - looking
at $3,400

And same amount if 2nd check
