You might get a thousand dollars stimulus package

What is the sense of giving someone that has income of less than $2500 any money? They are likely homeless and don’t have a bank account. Are you going to give them cash on the street so they can buy liquor and/or drugs of some type? Better to save that money and give it to local governments that are in the best position to distribute help to these people..

Wow. So everyone that makes less than 2500 a year is on drugs now. Way to be judgmental.

Full time student. Can’t work except work study as she has clinicals for her program. So minimum wage for less than 15 hours a week, only when school is session. She has a child. Receives section 8 for housing, food stamps and WIC for food. She makes less than 2500 a year. And she ain’t on the street or on drugs.

Sad thing is, right now? She can’t work because the campus is closed.

PSA...Do NOT buy food in the grocery
( know times are hard right now) that have a WIC symbol. Receipts can’t substitute for an alternative (unless this restriction has been removed)

Someone posted that on Facebook and I was glad because it was something I had not thought of on my own. I do hope that if they have not removed the restriction that they will, for now, because we're all facing having to make different food choices these days, and it seems awful to penalize mothers with small children because a store is out of the correct size, style, brand, etc.

People who lost their jobs in 2019 and unemployment benefits ran out and they're still having trouble finding something. Try to use your imagination a bit other than the tired stereotype of just a homeless guy wanting a booze bottle.

Wow, not sure you really understand the implications of what you said. I'm leaving this one alone.

I totally understand the implications. I trust the military much more than scared, stand your ground citizens. That is my worst nightmare in any situation.

Boy you are going to be in for a rude awakening when you realize that the military would only be doing those things under the order of those elected representatives you don't side with. If they weren't, that would be called a coup.

Sorry, there's no rude awakening for me. I grew up in a political family. I may not always agree with them, but IMO, the military will always make more sound decisions than citizens staging an uprising.

I hope I don't get it. Dh is a salaried worker, he is still working so we aren't in need of it.
Let ours go to someone who actually needs it to pay their rent or water bill or buy food for their family, or pay for doctor's visits.
🤷‍♀️Donate it , buy a ton of gift cards for first responders that are still going to work everyday , that would buy food or even coffee for many .

Why them? They are working and making good money.
They are working yes but a meal or a cup of coffee to keep them going is still helpful , most are working far more hours then normally and overtime suspended . They are out while most people are at home , let’s also not forget the volunteer first responders that are not being paid at all and coming in to HELP .

Yes, I hadn’t considered that scenario. I was thinking strictly of the homeless which I believe aren’t well served by handing them money. If you think they are then we can agree to disagree.

A local animal shelter announced they are doing a fundraiser that started the other day. It's only running for a few days, actually ending tomorrow for submissions, but I'm assuming they may do something similar for the future.

I like that they are keeping the humor alive as best they can: "staff members will create a custom drawing of your pet for a $15 donation for a digital copy and $25 for a physical print. Our team is way better at caring for animals than drawing them. You might get a drawing by one of our more artistically inclined team members…and you might not. Whether your drawing ends up being a masterpiece or a bit of a hot-mess, we’re going to have fun doing it & hope to make you smile"

Since the homeless have neither a bank account nor a mailbox, seems like a moot point.

I never said anything about the homeless. I am saying that there are many people in this country that DO need money and would be well served by receiving this money and may make less than 2500 a year.

If this short period causes you to dip into a emergency fund I would think any Disney trips would be delayed .. you said last week ( they were already allowing cancellations my son cancelled two weeks ago ) it may have been best to not go and add that money to emergency fund ... now that is just what I would have done , no trip is worth making me that tight financially.

And since they're using 2018, there's also a whole lot of young adults who were full time students, maybe working unpaid internships, etc. who won't meet the income qualification even though they're losing income that they depend upon now. Neither of my kids will qualify because of that. DS was in college in 2018, and being dyslexic and having had a hard time with school right along, we made it clear to him that we wanted that to be his focus. Not some minimum wage job. So he didn't work that year. But now he's working full time and then some, 60+ hour weeks, which is soon to drop to zero. Instead of buying a home, he's planning to use the money he'd saved for his down payment to keep up with his car insurance and cell phone payments. But he gets no help because he's too new to the full time workforce. Likewise, my daughter - who has already had to quit her waitressing job, where she's been averaging $20+/hour, because her campus closed and she had to come home - won't get anything because she wasn't even old enough to have a job for the first 8 months of 2018.

The whole plan is terrible. We're a median income family of five. I'd describe our income tax liability as "low", so I expect we'd get the reduced benefit (though they haven't put a number on it yet). As will most of the people being hit the hardest by this, either because they're in lower-paid retail and food service jobs or because they have several children and all the new expenses that go along with the schools being closed. And anyone new to the workforce gets nothing. It is like they sat down and designed a plan to provide the least benefit to the people who need it most!

Don't need it. Don't want it. Hate to think about placing the next generation in even greater debt for it. Will donate whatever we receive.
