You know you're ordering too many books online when...

I tried my cousins on a cruise earlier this month & gave up after a short amount of time. She knocked on my cabin door about 3 days in when her charger died & the shops onboard didn't have anything she liked. We named my cabin the library:)

She should have fully charged it before she left home and kept the Whispernet off - the charge would have lasted almost two weeks that way. Too bad she didn't plan ahead!!

She was fine, she took a few of my books.

Oh, I'm sure she found something to tide her over - we readers always manage to do that, don't we?

I just don't like to see innacurate information about the Kindle. From your post, it sounded like it was a normal thing for a charger to fail - it isn't. In fact, I've heard of only a few malfunction that way, and only in rare cases. Most Kindle owners have the same success rate with a Kindle charger as they do with other chargers like cell phones, etc.

A normal functioning Kindle can be fully charged in about 5 or 6 hours, and can hold that charge for one to two weeks, as long as the Whispernet is not used very often. Since Whispernet is only available in the continental US, it doesn't work while out at sea. Many, many people have reported having a Kindle preloaded with books to read while away for a week or longer cruise and having a great experience with it.

Honey, you need to go to Paperbackswap.com Much cheaper way to feed your habit (my habit also). That way when one book arrives another one goes out!

I'm definitely going to check this out - hopefully today..:goodvibes

I tried that but I actually like owning books! I have a room full of shelves. The paperbacks are mostly in storage boxes. It is kind of like an addiction.

I have a similar problem.. There are certain books that I will read more than once - and others that I keep because they are about a specific "event" or specific "people": (9/11; Hurricane Katrina; The Kennedy's; Princess Diana; etc.)

I actually get kind of giddy when the books arrive. I mean, I know what my books are that I ordered and when they will probably arrive but its seeing those package books that remind me slightly of getting presents.

I feel the exact same way.. There's just something about opening that box or bubble envelope and holding a book in my hand that makes me feel like I've just received the greatest gift in the world!! :lovestruc

Have you thought of joining Mensa? That way you may not need so many books.

Not sure what you mean by that, :confused3 but there's no way I'd ever give up my books.. :goodvibes

As for the kindle and downloading books, that just wouldn't work for me.. I have to have a "real" book in my hand.. I guess old habits die hard.. LOL :goodvibes

Glad to see other "real book" lovers here! I have about 500 books, give or take a few. I need to buy another bookcase...I was saving up for another 3-shelf, but it's not going to work. I need a 5-shelf. I already have one 3-shelf and two 5-shelves that are CRAMMED.

I will not get a Kindle. I also love having the actual book. I love the scent of books. And I prefer hardcovers, since I keep my books and reread them often - I find that paperbacks get beat up easily.

When I moved back home, it literally took me 8 days to move all of these books. At one point, I filled the trunk of my car, put one last stack in there, and I swear the car went down by a foot!

Is anyone else on goodreads.com?

Never heard of goodreads.com......need to go check it out.

How can I resist a site recommended by a "real" book reader;)

I am so glad that I borrowed a Kindle to try out. Otherwise I might have wasted my money buying one! I used it just long enough to know that it wasn't for me. I much prefer to be holding the real book in my hands.

Kindles might work well for some people but I'd definitely suggest borrowing one if possible prior to investing in one.
