You see toys that you used to own in an "antique" shop. Seriously, I went antique shopping last weekend and saw several toys that I owned as a child in there. It was quite an experience. Am I the only one that this has happened to?

I'm not that old yet. On Ebay they call my childhood toys "vintage". :rotfl:

I still have my 1963 Barbie that I got for my 4th birthday. Would that be considered antique or vintage? :rotfl2:

i saw a speek n spell in the antique shop...that was maybe 25 years?

I thought it was not remembering to zip up.

You know you are old when today's professional athletes are kids who were born while (or after) you were in high school.

As an example, there is a young hockey player named Sidney Crosby who was born on 8/7/87. I graduated 6/14/87. THAT makes me feel old. :faint:

I think I'm doing okay until I'm checking out at the grocery store and the really young cutie bagger says "Ma'am, do you need any help out with this today?" It's only FOUR bags of groceries in my cart for crissakes! And lose the Ma'am already. YES, I am 39 for the 2nd year in a row now, and yes, there are 3 children circling around me. Then I realize I could possibly be old enough to be HIS mother....quite a young mother of course but nevertheless... ;)

I felt OLD last night watching an interview about the new movie "Lady in the Water" when I realized the lead actress is Ron Howard's DAUGHTER!!! Little Opie's DAUGHTER?!?!?!?! Richie Cunningham's DAUGHTER?!?!?!? WT...???

Ok, breathe, it'll be okay!!!

But I still feel OLD!!!

Or how about this.. wedding presents you received, you see in Antique Shops, that horrifies me..

I have been dealing in Victorian and Edwardian jewelry for years now, thankfully I do not fit into that category, but it is weird when I see 50's jewelry, bakelite or costume, going for huge prices....things we would have bought relatively cheap at the time...or 60's or 70's..

I think the reason we see toys from our childhood in antique stores is because they were made with quality parts. Especially Fisher Price toys. Everything is plastic now and plastic absorbs dirt, sweat you name it and it is almost impossible to clean, so you end up throwing it out.

I have Barbies from the early 60's too, they have the date stamped on the bottom of their foot. They stopped printing the date on them in the early 70's., so you know you have an old one if the date is stamped on.

I felt really old last weekend at the Journey/Def Leppard concert. Over half of the crowd was late teens/ early twenties. Journey's biggest album Escape came out around 1980. These kids weren't even thought of. :sad2:

That happened to me years ago. DH and I were in the mall and went into a toy store. They had a toy that I remember from when I was little. I said something to DH like "Look, I remember playing with this" The smart aleck little girl working there said "Oh I didn't know it was an antique!" I swear DH had to hold me back. I felt soo old.

That made me laugh :teeth:

I found a fisher price movie viewer not too long ago in a garage sale. It came with 6 Disney movie cartridges. I made a big deal on how I had one of these when I was little and how much I loved it. DD got it out yesterday and started playing with it and said to me, and I quote "Mom, is this really how you had to watch movies when you were a kid?" :lmao: This after she found my old Disney records and asked me what the round things were. :lmao:

Or your ex-husband's new wife.....I think she was a twinkle in her daddy's eye when WE got married.

Exactly...but I kinda like her. Nothing like the other wife after me! And the kids think of her as a playmate so all is good! :rotfl2:

oh dear, that takes me back ds had a speak and spell, i'm sure its probably still in the loft somewhere :)

what about when you see actresses much younger than yourself (say by 20 years) complaining that they're getting to the point in their careers where they can only play 'older roles' ('like moms and grandmoms') :happytv:

dh made one of the people i graduated with feel VERY old at our last highschool reunion-he pointed out that not only had they not graduated together but that the guy had in fact been one of HIS highschool teachers (the fact dh is very prematurly gray made it all the better) :teeth:
