You know you're cheap when...

Many times I've been to VV and seen something from Dollar Tree prices at about $3.00. I think the kids that work there have no idea of the value of things and just slap whatever price they feel like on the items.

Several of my tops are Goodwill/thrift store finds. You just have to dig to find the good stuff, tbh. I have found SO many cute tops that were designer name for really good prices. Of course, I live in Las Vegas and there are several Goodwill stores here, so it's not like the whole town goes to the same store and it's ultra picked over.

Sounds like garage sales. Something they paid $10 for 20 years ago, they price at $5, and full retail today is $2.50

We don't have any salvation army stores in our area anymore. I made a goodwill run and found 3 pieces of the corning ware cornflower patterned pieces for $3.00 each. Worth my trip!

Goodwill and Salvation Army are crazy. Our Goodwill actually went out of business a few years ago, then came back in a different location with even worse prices. The Salvation Army may have better prices, but it's so dirty and smells so bad I don't even try anymore.

We have a great, local store that has a 0.50 color tag every week, then marks whatever is left down to 0.25 the next week. I find great stuff for the kids that way and work clothes for me (messy lab work, the cheaper the better). They get a little ridiculous on housewares and furniture sometimes.

We also have a twice yearly kids consignment sale, but it's hit or miss. Every sale the lady that runs it sends out these scathing emails reminding people to price their items appropriately (ie 1.00 per piece for wal-mart and target brands unless they're new, take into account wear and tear, etc). People still price some things way too high, so many things are nearly worn out and priced at retail. I usually wait and go to the last day when everything is marked 50% off.

you think Salvation Army prices are high.

Seriously though, there have been times when I'm like, "they want how much for that?!" Especially furniture. I wonder if social service agencies give people vouchers for Goodwill & Salvation Army.

I've also stood there looking at something and wondered what on earth it was. One mans junk really is another mans treasure.

I've been restoring/re-purposing old furniture for years as a hobby and prices at SA and GW have been on an upswing for quite a while. I blame it on all of the HGTV DIY shows like Flea Market Flip. I get much better deals at yard sales or estate sales these days.

Thrift shops USED TO BE great! Over the past 10 years, they have increased their prices to the point where you can get the identical item for the same price in a regular store. I do stop at my SA every now and again to see if there is anything I would like but I don't think I've purchased anything in at least 2 years.

Goodwill does have great prices at times ---- I've gotten several pairs of Guess jeans, a like-new womens leather jacket, and some other items and didn't even spend $25. That was about a year and a half or more ago, though.

this isn't about the good deals, you can still find them at thrift stores... a couple of weeks ago Savers had a bag sale, stuff a bag for $10..... I got what amounted to 4 FULL large bags of clothes for various family members for $20..... it's the random pricing that is ridiculous much of the time lately....which makes me leave things at the store....
