When I was a kid, I remember the sky ride that would take you across MK. I loved it - very relaxing and you get to see it all. I'm sure this has already been discussed, but I am new and couldn't find it. Can anyone tell me when/why they got rid of it? I guess there's no chance of them bringing it back :(

I heard they got rid of it b/c a worker was pushed off the platform and was killed :confused3 I remember it being a slow loader which meant waiting in line took forever, but it was fun. You could get some really great pictures from up there. I don't think there's any chance they'll bring it back but I wish they'd do something w/its space in Fantasyland. I think that area is for stroller parking now.

I loved that ride, it was so relaxing, and the views were wonderful!! But I know they had a lot of problems with people throwing trash, and other items while riding. Also, it was a slow moving ride, and for some reason I always remember it getting stuck. We were riding it one time when we got stuck up there for well over an hour and a half....not so fun when your watching all the people under you eating yummy foods, and having fun on all the rides.
But, I do miss it, and I think it's ashame how the two loading/unloading areas are just empty, it seems like a perfectly good place to put a new ride. ;)

I totally agree, it is just dead space now. They need to do something with it. Maybe the one in fantasy land can be torn down for more stroller parking, have a path up there to park the strollers, which would take them out of the way from where they are right now. That would definitely help with logjam that is right there between Peter Pan and IASW. And I would love to see a new ride or attraction at the other end of the skyway in tomorrowland. They seem to have some open space there, the only problem I see is that it is right about the restrooms over there.

I remember that ride! I didnt like much fast rides, so this was something non-threatning and fun! I remember riding with ym Nana....memories :earsboy: I hope the do something with the space too, although they do need a lot of stroller space in that section of fantysy land (With Peter Pan and Small World)

Our video of that ride is so incredible to watch. Can't believe it's gone. That's why people need to keep going back. After a while some of the best things are gone.

Our family still laments over the lose of the Millenium Celebration Parade at Epcot (can't think of the name of it). It was the best. The puppets were so beautiful and the music was so moving. It was hard to believe when they cancelled it. I guess more cutbacks.

The Skyway was taken down due to the high number of lightning storms in the area....it spent too much time being shut down because of it and it just became more of a hassle than anything....at least thats what I've been told. :wave2:

You know what I miss? The Millenium Village in Epcot? That was the greatest addition to the WS, I hate it wasn't permanant! :confused3

They can't tear the one in Fantasyland down or backstage areas will be seen. Not sure about Tomorrowland.

We miss the beaver tails at Epcot. They were so yummy....

I miss this ride as well, it was a great view of the Park. I miss this and 20,000 leagues under the sea. Two classics that are just wasted space now which stinks! :sad2:

This was originally called Tapestry of Nations Parade created for the millenium celebration and when they extended it to 2001 it changed to Tapestry of Dreams.
We also loved this parade & Illuminations is still our favorite Fireworks, the music gives me goosebumps We also like the bit during Vincent Price narration wher he makes the sound of blowing out a candle and at the very same time the lights go out around the lagoon Cool

I know-we have pictures from when I was little with my dad and mom on their own little skyride. I always wanted to recreate that with my husband and I-no such luck since it is gone.

Even if they gutted it, that would be fine. I am sure that some families wouldn't mind if the stroller parking area was covered and protected from rain.

Reading this thread, brought back memories of riding over fantasy land with my mom, it was one of the only rides she would go on, next to its a small world.

It must have shut down within the last 5 years because DH and I rode it on our trip in 99. It really was an enjoyable ride and I looked up where it used to be when there last week basking in the memories.

If you look between Canada and the UK Pavillions you can see the gates and the tent thing is still there, so perhaps they will re-use the tent at some time. I did like it too.

Oh I miss 20000 leagues......I have posted all my memories of that ride before so I won't bore you with the details. Did anyone else call that skyride "the buckets"? :cheer2:

I believe it closed permanently November 9, 1999.
