That is really wonderful! Boy, I hope your turn of events and all the talk of BINs over the past 24 hours is a sign of better sales to start right now!!!:teeth:

So, the best day to end the auctions is on a Sunday? What time is best? About 9:30 eastern, or later? TIA!!

Denise,
When I had an APO, AE address I couldn't use the SA. I just wrote the whole address on the box and when I got to the post office they said to mail it priorty or else it could take weeks to get there. At the post office I had to fill out a customs form stating the price and what the item was. I think for some reason that I couldn't use DC on the item also:confused: but I may be wrong:crazy: .
Hope that helps:D

Hi, everyone.
I've been lurking on this board since I returned from WDW at the end of July. I wish I had seen this board earlier!!

I finally decided to bite the bullet and list something for sale. It was a cross stitch kit I had purchased 20 years ago and had every intention of stitching "one of these days" LOL

Anyway, I was just going to throw this away, but decided to list it on eBay. I was not expecting much but it did eventually sell. $1.75!! HaHa!! A couple more sales like this and I can buy a water next time I'm in the park!

Well, now that I've got my feet wet, I'm going to list some more items that have been cluttering up my house.

Reading through a good portion of these posts has given me hope that I will be able to get back to Disney soon!!

Bye,
Darlene:earsgirl:

At my visit to the post office today I asked the question about re-using the priority mail boxes. While they do recommend re-using the boxes, they do not want you to cover them up and send them any way but priority.

So that's the official word on that.

Would you sell an opened bottle of hair gel or body splash that is nearly full? I have B&BW body splash that is nearly new and Suave hair gel that was only used once or twice cluttering my bathroom basket. I've searched ebay and found othe B&BW items, some used, but mostly new. What's Your opinion?

maybe the BBW stuff would get something, but I wouldn't expect much from the Suave - its so cheap in the stores. Just my two cents worth. Course I'm the one with still no bids on the relisting so what do I know! (38 views on the 6 items so at least they are looking).

I've been watching this thread for awhile and boy it's a long one. I have a silly question tho.....I've been thinking about selling, have a P.O. Box anyway....do you feel funny when it comes time to actually give your name to a buyer? I mean it's all fairly anonomous up to that point, but then they obviously need to know who to make the check out to. Any hints on keeping a low profile? Ever end up finding out the buyer is someone you know, worse yet a co-worker? I said it was silly......Thanks.

Intenseblue, I sell alot of makeup and lotions. Some are brand new and some are slightly used, tested or sampled. If I were you I would put together a few items to make it a lot and put the Suave in. You never know, someone, somewhere loves Suave and may live far enough from store that sells it, that they may not be able to get it. It can't hurt your sales. I did a search once and saw that someone even was selling slightly used toothpaste in lots. So even if we think Suave is a cheap enough brand to buy ourselves, others across the U.S. may think otherwise..

nelle: thanks for your reply, I was so confused about sending this item, I didn't know what to do..

Denise

do you feel funny when it comes time to actually give your name to a buyer?

Personally, no... but I can understand your concerns. The first time I had to call a buyer on the phone after she didn't respond to my emails, I was really uncomfortable. But since eBay recommended that, I knew I needed to do it and it turned out really well.

If you struggle with this, eBay may not be for you. IMHO, success depends to a large degree on good customer service, and if you feel wierd about interacting with people, that may come across negatively.
Ever end up finding out the buyer is someone you know, worse yet a co-worker?
Sort of... the buyer of my boat was someone who had considered buying it before I put it on eBay. Also have had co-workers bid on my items because they wanted them (or wanted to "help" me), though I didn't know about it until afterwards.

I'm proud of my eBay endeavors, and have no problem sharing the fact with anybody I know.

I usually end mine about 10:00 PM eastern....I figure that gives the west coast people time to eat, clean up and bid!!

I have seen several places here about the free delivery confirmation for Priority Mail when you print the shipping label at home from the USPS website and it works great EXCEPT... twice now it has given me an error message when I have entered a valid address (valid according to the recipient). In both cases I have been forced to pay for DC at the post office.... I don't usually figure my shipping on the high side, so that has been a chunk out of my profit. Anyone know how to override the error? . One other thing.... I ordered my Priority Mail packaging on-line, as suggested here on this thread.... I received my boxes in about 5 days. I've heard a great deal about it taking many weeks for some people. Obviously I was lucky! (And I don't live in a big metro area... I live out in the boondocks of NH!). :wave2:

I'm glad to hear that other people are not doing well.... WAIT.. that sounds wrong!! I'm NOT glad that others are doing poorly, but it at least explains my sluggish sales right now. I just started on ebay a few weeks ago and things have been slow from the start! I'm listing mostly books and Barbies (I know that the barbie market is glutted). Most of my books don't sell for more than starting bid of $1.00. Most are in mint condition and most have been hardcovers. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? I understand also that the Barbie market is overloaded, but I checked completed sales and found a 1992 HH Barbie with an open box (big no-no for collectors) that sold for $56 a few weeks ago and others that sold for between $20 and $55..... I was selling the exact same doll in an unopened, but slightly damaged box.... I only got .51 over opening bid (10.51). That is not even what I paid for it 10 year ago!! Very disappointing. I'm trying to make sure that my pictures are good, well-lit, clear, quick to download, I give good descriptions and details of any damage... I offer a choice of shipping, I accept Paypal, I make sure that my auctions end on Sunday evening, if possible, very low starting bids with no reserve..... HELP! What am I doing wrong? Is it because I am a newbie with little/no feedback? I have several miscellaneous new items I want to list tonight to end next Sunday (kids books, kids backpack, Carters baby blanket, craft kits) and I really want them to sell before Christmas. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY SUGGESTIONS FROM ANYONE WHO HAS HAD EBAY SUCCESS!! Sorry to go on so long.....:worried:

I just had a potential buyer email me and asked me to sell two of my items to her directly. The auctions end in 2 days and have no bids so far. Isn't it against Ebay's rules to end auctions and sell directly to a person?

Hey y'all - sorry I've been MIA for awhile...I got a new job and have been making sure all of my ducks are in a row for that....

Anyway, just wanted to let anyone who has Funko bobbleheads lying around, they are doing well on ebay. (LOL, about the only thing that's doing well for me right now!) I have two from a television station's promotion a few years back (i.e., they were free), and they are both up to $25+ each (24 hours into the auction!) I saw one go for over $100 last week, which is what made me put mine up.

Outside of that, nothing much is selling well...maybe the Christmas shoppers are waiting for December?

Ok, first off, I would put books in lots... that seems to do better than single books. You can also check out Amazon or Half. com to sell books as well. We have sold previously on Half.com media wise, and had no problems.

The Barbie market is glutted and that is unfortunate for you. I personally decapitated all of mine, so you won't find mine there!

HI!

For auctions that don't seem to be doing well. I write some of the following in my auctions:
*"Lower combined shipping rates if buyer wins more than one auction"
*Shipping to Canada, Australia (and whatever other countries you are comfortable with) just make sure they know shipping rates will be higher
*I try to include 'key' words in my description so I catch folks that might be doing a search with in the description. So if I have a Disney Barbie listed and I can only put so many words in the title. I write out the entire movie it is from in the description and the other like items I have listed. I found that if someone sees more than one of my auctions they like, they are more willling to bid more $ and keep bidding in order to win both auctions (or more).

"We also have the coordinating (or -- other items from this collection) listed, including XXXXX. We will gladly combine this auction with any of our other auctions for a lower combined shipping rate"

Hope this helps someone.

PS I have also found using a service like Inkfrog is invaluable -- I can write more on this is someone would like

Yes, I believe it is against the rules. That way Ebay wouldn't get their Final Value Fee. But I don't know what the rules are if the auction ends with no bids and you contact her after the fact about a sale. I would just tell her to bid and take her chances along with everyone else!!

Thanks pjlla! I did just as you suggested. I sure hope Ebay sales pick up soon! Like everyone else, I am having lukewarm success or worse.
