I'm sort of afraid to sell anything on E-Bay because last year my DS was selling some items of his one was a success, but one was bought and E-Bay charged their fees, but the person never went through with the sale.
He just took the loss.
If I accept payment for my items only though paypal would this prevent this from happening to me?
I have a ton of stuff around this house that I was going to give away, most not opened with prices still on them.
Thanks!

If a buyer ever does not pay for the item, you can and should file a non-paying bidder alert and file for your fees to be reversed, you should never have to "just take a loss" because a buyer does not follow through on the purchase. You will have to pay the filing fee but if you relist and it sells the second set of fees is reversed.

Hi, everyone. I'm one of the "lurkers" who posted a long time ago when you could read this thread in just a few evenings! After reading about all the positive results from selling on eBay, I found my courage and listed a few items. I'm happy to report that most of the items sold (and for more than I expected!).

Now that the selling is done, I've run into some problems, and I'm not sure how to fix them. Since everyone seems so friendly and helpful here, I'm hoping someone can give me some advice. I've tried to fix these problems, but so far, no luck.

First problem: My first buyer (Canada) tried to pay using PayPal, but kept getting a message that I don't accept PayPal outside the U.S. (even though I do - or at least I want to). Where/how do I tell PayPal that it's OK to accept payments from Canada?

Second problem: I took a package for another buyer to the post office today. I had printed the label online so I could get free delivery confirmation. The post office had never dealt with this before; the clerk was able to remove the charge for DC when she scanned the label, but her computer would not print the postage tape. Should I have been able to include the postage on the label when I printed it?

Would someone be so kind as to throw me a lifeline - I'm getting a little discouraged and worried that I'm goofing everything up. I was counting on a few extra dollars for a spring Disney trip; now I'm not so sure!

BTW, my apologies for being so long-winded and for not introducing myself earlier - I'm Delaney, I love Disney, and I'm so glad I found this web site!

My little PO doesnt scan the label she just types something (probably the zip code) in and weighs the package. Try a different Postal employee. My PO only has 2 that do my packages correctly.

Welcome Delaney!

Was this a Priority Mail item? That's the only one that offers the free delivery confirmation and should not have created a problem. All other Delivery Confirmation is 13 cents if you print your labels on-line via Shipping Assistant..

Not sure on the Paypal thing because I don't ship to Canada - I'm sure someone else will come along with the answer..

Don't be afraid to ask questions - or be "long-winded" - that's why I started this thread - everyone helping everyone else out!!!!!! :)

Can I vent for a minute?

Lately, I've done a lot of selling and buying on ebay. For the most part, I've had excellent luck. It's either that or it is horrible! I've had two items in the last month that I purchased, and there was a death in one family. Now, I have an item I purchased on the 29th of September. I sent a money order to Ohio. I'm in Iowa. Not too far away. She said she got it a week later. OK, whatever. Then she said she had to wait three days for it to clear her bank before she could ship (not in her description). Now, it would have shipped LAST Tuesday, but when she went to ship it, she realized there is a leak in one of the tires, so NOW she had to replace it. OK, so I thought it'd ship the next day. NO, she waited until YESTERDAY to ship it. When I replied to her email that she sent to let me know the item shipped, I replied with my disappointment in late shipping. Her response: she is the mother of four small boys and is helping her mom with breast cancer. That is always the excuse. A sickness or I'm a stay at home mom with all these kids.

Why can't people just tell the truth and say "Oh, I was lazy today and didn't make it to the post office". I never make up stories. I listed an item this last week and listed the wrong size. I didn't try to blame on it my kids or my sick relatives. I took 100% responsibility. ARRR. I have a red headed two year old. I should be excused from EVERYTHING! This person has a feedback of over 400. Her excuses are very lame.

Sorry for rambling, but if I don't post here, I'm probably going to reply to her, and it wouldn't be polite.

Cinders and C. Ann -

Thanks for your responses. It was a priority mail shipment; the post office in the town where I work only has two employees and neither of them could make it work. I do remember that the clerk did type in the zip code and DC code (I guess that's what it was that made the DC charge pop up on the screen). Then she scanned the barcode on my pkg. and that deleted the DC charge. But she never could make the postage print. She ended up putting the proper postage on the pkg, but I'm thinking that the DC feature isn't going to work (since she had to clear everything out of her computer, I'm guessing that there's no record that I requested DC in their computer).

The clerks were extremely nice and tried their best and even commented that they needed to find out more about this. I suppose I could find another PO in a nearby county that is familiar with this, but then I could only ship on a weekly basis and I'd have to make special trips (and I'd rather spend that time putting stuff on eBay!).

So I guess I've decided not to give up - I'll keep trying!

Thanks for making me feel welcome. I look forward to posting on these boards, but hopefully, it won't be to report problems!

Madi100 vent here all you want or need to. Better to do that here than email the buyer/bidder/seller with a nasty tone and then get a neg. and regret it later. I'm sure you'll get your item. So don't worry about it too much. But, one thing I don't understand is when she said that she had to wait for the m/o to clear. I thought that a m/o was just like cash and there is no wait time. When I deposited several money orders in my account, they went in as cash and were available immediately.

My kids are good for all kinds of excuses. "I't wasn't my fault", "She did it", I didn't know" etc....I take it all with a grain of salt ...........(And 2 of them are teens going to college, I don 't know who gives best excuses, kids or adults)....

earlydisneyfan,

I am not sure if this is the problem with your DC and priority mail labels, BUT my post office always scans the bar code FIRST and that brings up the free electronic delivery confirmation. Maybe have your post office do that and see if it works.

At your opening page for your paypal account, click onto the Profile tab. Under the third column "Selling Preferences" click onto the "Payment Receiving Preferences" link, this will give you all of your payment options. If you decide you want to accept any different currency than USD, there is an option to do so, and Paypal will convert for you into USD. I have my setting on "ask me", but there is also an option "No, accept them and convert them to U.S. Dollars". Either choice will allow you to accept other currencies. My most recent sale was to Sweden, and payment was posted in USD.

I have a problem with this as well....my feeling is, if your going to do it, do it well, or don't do it at all. I take my selling very seriously (as well as my buying), I have listed an auction so I will abide by the terms...somehow, someway I will follow through. All of our lives are filled with difficulties, problems, surprises, troubles, etc. but they are ours, not anyone elses. Sorry for venting as well, but I think I have heard quite a few sob stories from sellers and buyers and it just wears me out!!!

My post office does it the same way as Maggie posted. We have recently moved and when I went to my new post office, they were not familiar as well with the online DC free label. The lady there asked me about it, I explained that I printed it from the website and that it gives me free DC. She said she had no idea that anyone could do that, but scanned the label and was amazed that it worked...(she was very sweet) and told me how great it was!!! Next stop in, she told me that she was telling everyone about "MY" great find on the website, and was telling everyone to do it!! You gotta love the post office!!
About the postage... you do not have to print a label with postage to get the free DC. You can register on the USPS site if you want to print with postage included. I haven't printed a label with postage because I use my paypal debit to pay my shipping costs. The option is there if you want it.

Money orders can be fake...they can bounce just like a bad check. I usually ask buyers to send postal money orders.

I think some banks consider them to be checks. This lady really made it sound like she depends on the money that I sent her to ship my item. She also had to tell me how the item cost an extra $20 over what she quoted me. I was doing some research on this person, and she is a seller. Has a feedback of 600 or so. She ships everything fed-ex. I have a hard time believing that she isn't famaliar with how much things cost to ship. It's a bike, and I would have really still liked to use it some this weekend. According to my figuring, it could have shipped on the 9th, and I woul dhave had it for my daughter's birthday. I wasn't planning on it for then, but if she was on the ball, that is when I would have had it. Ten days later.... It's just excuse after excuse.

All of our lives are filled with difficulties, problems, surprises, troubles, etc. but they are ours, not anyone elses.

I can't agree with this comment more!! When I was in college our instructor got really upset with the class one day because there were so many excuses for homework not being done. She more or less told us the above. Everyone in life has problems. Yours are no worse then the next person's.

Maggie & Claudia -

Thanks for the advice. I found my error on the PayPal problem (I had told PayPal to convert to US $$$, but didn't notice that I had blocked non-US PayPal accounts - duh!).

As for the online DC problem, I'll try again and tell the clerk to scan the barcode before she does anything else. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I know that this really doesn't belong here....should post it on the community board, but I received it this morning and with all the ups and downs of ebay for some of us lately, I thought this might provide a little chuckle.......please, no offense to any men sellers/buyers...it's just for fun!!

Gotta read these!

SEND THIS TO A SMART WOMAN WHO NEEDS A LAUGH AND TO THE GUYS YOU THINK CAN HANDLE IT.

I have a strange incident and not sure how to handle it. In the last week I have received 2 emails through Ebay from people that claim that a person I bought from in the past (I cant remember what I bought but whatever it was had to be inexpensive and was a positive experience) scammed them out of $2200. and $1800 and they want this persons contact info and to know if I was scammed too.

First off I am in no way looking up this sellers info and passing it on to these "two" people. I've looked up their past auctions and feedbacks.....one person has a feedback of only 12 and the other has 0 and just became a Ebay member Oct. 18, 2003. I forwarded the 2 emails to the spoof@ebay.com address but I'm not sure thats where I should have sent them. Is there somewhere else I should report this?

Claudia - I started buying the postage online (USPS Priority Mail, as you were discussing above) using the Paypal debit card as my payment option and it has been (so far! ) just great!!

Thanks so much for the chuckle, Claudia! It has been a very frustrating morning (some eBay related, most not!) and I needed something to make me smile! :) :) :) :) :)

My colleagues will appreciate it even more!
