I had a women who won 2 of my auctions on the same day 28 days ago. She finally paid today-- which was the day I could file for my fees back (I had already started the NPB process). She kept telling me she would pay, so on and so forth. Last weekend she told me she had a death in her family and was out of town for a few days, but she'd pay the next morning. I had alreadt been told she'd SENT a money order at least 3 times. Then I finally emailed her once last time Friday night letting her know that Sunday a.m. I was filing for my fee's and relisiting (both of these items had a lot of bids). I can understand a hardship, but she had lied about sending payment so many times (at least 4). Then she was back for almost a week and still no payment.

So I left her neutral feedback. I really wanted to leave negative, but didn't in light of her troubles. I did however, also send her an email letting her know I had left her neutral feedback, and why. Was that out of line? In the email I just told her I had packaged her items up, and they'd go priority tomorrow. Then I let her know I left her feedback and it was neutral. I told her I did this because she hadn't met the term of the auction. I left it at that.

Is there a consensus as to the best time of day for an auction to end? I want to list a couple items tonight for a 7 day auction.

Thanks!

Just for future reference, and this is only my opinion, but I would wait until after she receives your items and leaves your feedback before leaving negative or otherwise.

I only say this because you already know she isn't exactly above board. She could say anything about your items or you now.

JMHO... :)

I haven't been checking in here in awhile so I'll have to go back and try to read some pages.

I am participating in a group charity auction that started last Sunday. Well I got a bid on my listing the first day and then a few days later my auction was cancelled - Oh no, someone had reported something in my listing. Well the item was up to $29.99 and now after relisting is is only at $14.00. This auction is to benefit breast cancer awareness - I lost my mother 13 years ago to this disease so it is so troubling that someone would report a charity auction for a minor infraction - one that eBay themselves said was OK. I have been working with eBay to resolve it. I just can't believe someone would do that. If anyone is interested in the charity auctions, please send me a PM. So far the group has received close to $10,000 in total bids.

one that eBay themselves said was OK.

If eBay says it's ok..then why did they cancel it? They don't cancel just because someone reports it. Just curious.

I need some more advice:confused: . I had won an auction about a month ago for an "Orlando Entertainment Book". Which is exactly how the item was labeled and described (no pics). Anyhow I received it and it turned out to be those coupon booklets you can get for free throughout all of Kissimee/Orlando. I then emailed the seller, and after a couple times he finally emailed back saying I could return the item for a full refund. (He even states 100% guarantee in his auction). Anyhow I returned it and I know he got it (used DC) over a week ago. Now, he won't return my emails, nor will he return my money. I paid by echeck w/ paypal if that makes a difference. I just went to check his feedback (which was up over a 1000) and all of a sudden he has a bunch of negs and neutrals from the last week. All people complaining the item was misrepresented. He reponses to each of these feedbacks saying-- email me and I'll refund you. I however, for one, know he isn't responding.

What recourse do I have now? Or am I just out the money? TIA

Here's alittle update on my above problem. I have since filed a complaint with ebay's fraud department. He clearly misrepresents his item by using a trademarked name of an item, and then not producing that item. I also filed a complaint with square trade. I have also left neg feedback (he already left me positive). The feedback read: Item misrepresented, Refund Not given when returned, emails ignored. He responded in his feedback by saying I didn't return the item. HOWEVER, he sent me an email right after saying "YOU CAN KISS YOUR REFUND GOODBYE NOW THAT YOU HAVE GIVEN ME NEGATIVE FEEDBACK!! I DON"T TOLERATE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK!!" He has acknowledged getting the returned item. So now what do I do????

I don't know if it will help to file with Paypal, for a refund..I can't remember how many days it's been since you paid. Also, while they usually won't get involved in much more than if he shipped it, they may be interested because he sent something different than advertised. I'd call or write and ask them.
I hope you sent his last email with the headers to eBay..it's against their policy for him to use feedback this way (you gave me a neg, so now I don't have to refund you)

I have a question. I sent a package to a buyer using delivery confirmation and insurance (the item was about $100). When I checked online to see if it was delivered, it says that they attempted delivery and the item could be picked up. If it wasn't deliverable, they would send it back to the shipper.

We had a lot of exchange of emails because she tried to pay with a credit card (even though I state I don't take credit cards) and when I denied the payment she had to go through the process of setting up a link to her checking account. Anyway, in one of the emails she stated that she wished she could get the item "before I leave" (it was a travel accessory case). So now since the item was attempted delivery, I think she may be gone and no one there to pick up her mail.

So, my question is, what happens if it gets sent back to me? Who is responsible for reshipping it? It was kind of expensive with the insurance and all ($10). She never stated in any of her emails not to send the package because she was going to be away.

Maggie

Kilee,
You might consider filing mail fraud charges. I've never filed myself, but I've read on Ebay-related listserves that the US Postal Service takes Ebay-related fraud seriously (even small claims like yours). I think you have a good case, since there really is an Orlando Entertainment Book and you did not receive it! Here's a link to a variety of fraud resources, including the USPS mail fraud complaint form:

Here's an update: I had already filed all my reports w/ ebay and paypal. I also forwarded his emails. When I came home from work I had received the refund including the shipping charges. Alittle too late--- I had already filed the notices. Which he already knew, because I got email copies of the intial notices sent to him by paypal and ebay. Hopefully he learns a lesson-- I did too. Well, actually I can't judge all ebayer's by one bad apple!

Now, I have another question. How do you end an auction early. I want to end this one item. This is the 3rd time I've listed it and only one person has bid so far. It ends in 3 nights. The lady that won it also one several other auctions. She wants to send payment (MO) ASAP, to get to me prior to my trip. Anyhow, I just want to end it so I can give her one combined total and get her money;) !

While you can end an auction early, I believe you would not be able to give a valid reason, when you give the reason why you ended the auction. eBay does keep track of how often someone ends auctions..since they won't be getting their end of auction fee...and of course they like that fee. Here are the reasons you can give for ending an auciton early:

The item is no longer available for sale.
There was an error in the starting price or reserve amount.
There was an error in the listing.
The item was lost or broken.

eBay goes on to say the following:
NOTE: Sellers are not permitted to cancel bids and end listings early in order to avoid selling an item that did not meet the desired sale price. This is considered to be reserve fee circumvention. Although there are legitimate reasons for ending a listing early, abuse of this option will be investigated.

Keep in mind, that many of us have been fooled by the bidding at the end of an auction. You may be giving up some money by doing this.

Just a FYI

Ebay does get their Final Value Fee if you end an auction early that has bidders. The only time they would not get a FV fee is if there were no bidders or if the seller cancelled the bids before ending the auction.

edited to say:
I just looked it up, and you are right. I just learned something new!

Just wanted to let you all know that I haven't abandoned this thread.. I've just been terribly busy with some other things and haven't even listed anything for sale on eBay for over a week.. :( Hopefully I'll be able to get some things up and running today..

We've decided that we have to move from this house so now the hunt is on to determine where we're going to go from here.. We're even considering 6 months at the lake and 6 months in Florida, so there's a LOT I have to look into!

The good part is that now I'm going to be selling off a lot more stuff than I was before because wherever we end up, it will probably be in very small quarters..

Anyhow - thanks to ALL of you for keeping this thread going and keeping the questions answered while I've been off in la-la land - LOL... :)

Are there really no thoughts on this?

Hi, for me the best times to end an auction are around 7pm and later. Except for Friday and Saturday. I never list an auction to end those 2 days because I think people are out and not on line. Although I did have a few auctions end during the afternoon around 3pm, but they were for infant items and I figured if you have an infant your home or if your pregnant and looking for infant items, its late in the pregnancy and your home too. Everything else I would say right after dinner time, when all is cleaned up in the house and the bidders have some spare time to browse on line. Hope this makes sense and hope it helps.
