I wouldn't refund the money. This is between the gentleman and his wife. I do think it a good idea to sweep your account for the time being just in case, though. Another approach would be to request that the item be returned to you and that after reciept of the item, you could refund the money in the amount of the item ONLY (do not refund the cost of s/h).

Thank you DisneyChrista. I appreciate your quick response. I'm gonna write to him & tell him that this transaction is complete and that, while I'm sorry that this happened, it is something that he will need to take up with his wife. Thanks again. Sandy

Personally I wouldn't offer a refund to this man of any sort. You were not at fault for anything. The man and his wife have an issue and he really had no business bringing you into it. However, can't he contest the paypal charges?? In that case you may want to sweep your paypal account ASAP. I don't know how that whole process works. I'm really floored by what some people expect.

I agree with the other posters - it is not your fault the wife "got caught with her hands in the cookie jar" so to speak. His problem is with his wife, not you. Good Luck with it.

By the way, I after EVERY transaction, I sweep it into my ebay checking account. Better safe than sorry.

I'm with them. His issue is with his wife, not you or the purchase. If he wants a refund, he should return the merchandise.

How's everyone doing with this week's listings? I sold one item on Tuesday (a three day sale I started late Sat.) and I have anumber of bids, although small, on many others. I have until early Sunday to see how high the bids go.

Wow! I just finished page 187, which is where I first posted (I was on page 25 on 09/20/03!). With 60-hour work weeks and completing renovations on my music room (my piano finally has a home!), :bounce: I've been reading a page or two when I can. A lot of good information from everyone! I've been copying and pasting many of the hints into a Word document for future reference.

The other night I took some photos with my digital camera, and tonight I'm going to try to figure out how to download them into my computer (so far I've just used a printer that accepts the memory card--it doesn't even have to be attached to a computer!). After that, I hope to begin listing a few items this weekend. I opened a checking account earlier this week (first week temperatures have been under 100 degrees!) and registered with eBay. I still have to complete PayPal registration, then I'm ready to experiment!

I think I remember reading something on this thread about some versions of AOL being incompatible with eBay (or Postal Assistant?). I don't remember which version I have, but it came on my computer, which I purchased in quarter 04 2001 (possibly version 6.0?). I currently have an offer to upgrade to 9.0 online, but haven't taken the time to do it (it's recommended that it be started late at night and left running), and I'm not crazy about leaving my computer hooked up to the telephone line all night. I usually disconnect the telephone line as soon as I complete a session. Any suggestions?

It's really strange--I can write applications for just about anything, but I seem to have difficulties with the internet! Apparently everything is supposed to be "intuitive" and I have zero intuition!

Thanks for your assistance!

Taja :sunny:

This is for the AOL upgrade. If you want to upgrade usually getting the free discs from Walmart, Target, Library, ect are quicker than doing the updates online.

Hi Taj, I have aol 8.0 and I have no problems using the shipping assistant or any part of ebay. So if it works for me I'm sure it will work for you. And believe me if I can upload pictures from my digital camera to the computer ANYONE can. I'm so computer challenged I scare myself sometimes.LOL. Anyway, welcome aboard and good luck with your sellings. This group here is the friendliest group around. If you have any questions about anything concerning ebay or paypal, the bunch here is more than happy to help you out. God only knows how many times they helped me.

Well, I'm glad I didn't give up-- after 2 1/2 weeks of terrible sales-- I finally see things getting better. Most everything I have up right now has at least 3-5 bids on it. I am dealing w/ a NPB right now though-- it's been 7 days and not a word from them. They also have "0" feedback. I then have another lady who won an auction 18 days ago. She told me almost 10 days ago she was putting the MO in the mail the next day. I emailed her Thurs. night just verifying she did in fact pay. Well, I haven't heard from her now either, so I started the 1t NPB on her. I don't want to have to wait forever to collect those fees. On top of it, she won 2 auctions that had a lot of bidding on them. Ugh!

Quite a few pages back I posted needing advice on an auction someone had won and then they said that the product wasn't working (even though I thoroughly checked it out before it was shipped). Well I decided that I would refund the money. This was 9/29 and I still haven't received the item back. It's been almost 2 weeks and I haven't heard anything. I was wondering if I should I email the person again and tell them to return the item within a certain amount of days or no refund? Thanks again for any advice :D

I would tell the buyer, that you need the item to be recieved within 10 day in order to refund the money.

Hey veteran ebayers - have a strange question for you...

I sold a dress last week, for $3.99, and had used the shipping calculator for shipping. I used Turbo Lister, and I think that I may have overlooked changing the weight from one item to the next, because the shipping for this $4 sundress came out to over $18!!

The buyer responded before I even had a chance to send an invoice, saying that she didn't realize that the shipping would be so high, but "you learn something new every day" and that she had put the check in the mail. (Nothing MEAN about the shipping or anything.) I responded by saying that I must have made a mistake, and gave her the proper shipping amount from her zip code. (It was under $5.) And told her that that added to the $3.99 would be the total cost.

She responded with "I already put the check in the mail." And that's it. Not, "I already put the check in the mail, but could you refund the extra shipping," or anything like that.

So am I to assume that she's okay with this $18 shipping charge?? Or should I take the high road and just put a check in the box for the difference?

If it were me I would send an email saying that I would be refunding the extra shipping with a personal check that I would enclose in the package.....so please check inside for it.

Help anyone who has mailed overseas! I have a potential buyer from the UK and he would like to know what the shipping on this item will be but I can't make heads or tails out of the USPS international shipping. The box will weigh 3# max. Global priorty is the cheapest however I'm not sure if I can ship it that way. Anyone have any suggestions on which service? The other service is Airmail Parcel Post. I'm not sure what way to go.
Help please.
Thanks,

The Priority that is the "cheapest" is likely for a flat rate envelope, and of course the item would have to fit. I would quote the air mail parcel post, unless the item is small and flat.

A-ha! So I am NOT the only honest person in the world!! ;) I already have the check packed in the box and ready to go when her check clears.

I asked one of my friends about it, and she said that if the woman wanted her money back, she would have asked for it. Which does make sense, but I don't feel like taking someone's money because of my mistake. The situation still strikes me as odd - if you were overcharged THAT MUCH for shipping, wouldn't you at least say something about it??

FonFon,
I would have refunded the excess shipping charge to the buyer, too. Unfortunately, there are sellers on eBay who will pad the shipping costs in order to avoid higher Final Value fees. Your buyer may have assumed that about you. She'll be happy to see that her assumptions were in error. She should leave you some great feedback.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to send an email but I'm not sure how to write it. I don't want to sound harsh or whatever but it's already been almost 2 weeks.

I have been reading these pages for days. I then noticed that there are over 200 pages here so cannot possibly read them all and retain all the information.

I have some things I want to sell on Ebay after reading all the glowing reports here.

I am sorry if these questions have been asked/answered before but I did ready 40 pages or so and still am a bit lost.

First, what is 'sweeping' your paypal account? And how is this accomplished?

Second, I do have a paypal account already (for a few purchases made previously on ebay). I did go out and get a separate checking account for this purpose. I do have a digital camera already. That is background information for the next (larger) question.

Lastly: Could someone please post a step by step to getting started? Please include any details you can spare the time to type up! Or even give a direct link if you know it's posted elsewhere. Also, can I change my ebay name for this purpose or can I set up a second one (as a seller as opposed to buyer)? If I do this, can I use the current Paypal account I now have.
Thanks so much for any help.

And I cannot tell you how I regret selling all my kids Fisher Price and Little Tykes at previous yardsales after reading this thread.

Cindy
