I'm so amazed at the number of hits this listing has gotten. After 3 days it is up over 1,000 views. AMAZING!!! If I had any doubts about this, they are gone now.

That's great. I now my brother was shocked. He had pictures of his beat up car and everything. There is a lot of action on the motors site.

Wow - I should have taken BIL up on his offer to have me list his stuff. He something ending tonight that is up to $260.00 and he started the listing at $24.00. He's doing great by himself.

I just wanted to know what to start with. I don't want to put things out there for sale that nobody wants. But like you said,
we all have different things in our attics and I guess "one man's junk is another man's treasure". I will have to try one or two items, just to start and see what happens. I am going to look for some fall items right now. Do you sell Christmas items? And when do you start listing them? I would imagine it is too soon to put them on now. Any help you can give me is appreciated. I really like this idea, but I am going to have to do some more research. :sunny:

It's a little difficult to judge what people will or won't buy because it all has to do with personalities; things people collect; things people need; things people want; etc..

The very first item I sold was an ink cartridge for a printer I no longer had.. The cartridge was new and I think I started the bid at $2 - or something like that.. All total - including shipping and handling - I received something like $21.. That was it for me - I was HOOKED!! After that I sold certain types of books in "lots" (like 4 to 6 at a time); used videos; and then moved on to anything and everything.. There's really no sure-fire way of knowing WHAT people will buy - or WHEN they will buy it.. I've put items up one week and didn't get one bid at all - relisted them the next week and made quite a bit of money.. It's really a gamble - so don't get discouraged if the first thing or two you put up doesn't sell - or doesn't sell the first time out of the gate..

Just look around your house and find some things you don't want anymore and give it a shot... There's no "perfect" time - and no "perfect" item..

If you have children, try some toys - books - games - used clothing in good condition..

Any kitchen items you no longer need or want? Cookie cutters? Canisters? Dishes? Pots and pans? Silverware?

How about those Christmas gifts we all get every year - that we never use because it's just "not us"? Any gifts of perfume that you didn't care for? How 'bout that sweater that Grandma thought was "so" you - that YOU think is "so" hideous?

How many purses do you have? Do you really use them all? Has your hubby received 15 wallets for the past 15 birthdays? Aftershave he hated? Electric razors he didn't need?

Do you - or did you - have pets? Has Fido outgrown his dog collar/leash/bowl/bed? No need for that dog grooming kit anymore?

How many extra baseball gloves/bats/trading cards do you have lying around? Knee pads? Bike helmets? Rollerblades? Ice skates? Footballs?

What's near your desk? Computer programs you don't use? Pens or pencils with advertising on them? Do you really need 4 of those extra large staplers?

Wander over to your CD player.. I used to LOVE the Beatles - now I can definitely live without them - so - off go the CD's to eBay.. Who did YOU "used" to love?

And really - just how long are you going to hang on to that collection of 538 post cards people have sent you over the years?? Ebay them away!!!

Did you collect anything as a kid and your parents are hounding you to get those blankety-blank boxes OUT of their garage/attic?? There COULD be a gold mine in those boxes!! Vintage toys - vintage games - vintage collectors cards..

And WHILE you're in the garage - does DH REALLY need 93 sets of screwdrivers/pliers/wrenches/etc.???

I could go on and on here....but....hopefully you've gotten the idea by now...

On eBay - pretty much anything goes.. It's just a matter of having it out there at the same time someone happens to be looking for it..

Good luck - and keep comin' on back here with your questions!;)

I'm going to give you a little "quiz" here to see how well you have all been paying attention in terms of "ebaying your way to Disney.." By now you have all read enough info here to glean the art of ebaying - selecting the items you will sell; how to write a good listing; how to take a nice photo; good days to list and end auctions; how to figure shipping; tips on packing; how to get your money; etc., - so let's see who can solve this mystery first...

Ready? Okay.....

Ebay teacher leaves her summer place at the lake and heads home around 2:45 Sunday afternoon... Barring any unforseen traffic or other hold-ups, it will take exactly 1 hour and 15 minutes - driveway to driveway...

Ebay teacher pulls into her neighborhood at 3:59 p.m.. However, she doesn't arrive home until 4:25 p.m. - and doesn't get inside the house until 4:45 p.m....

What happened?????????????????????????

;)

If you only accept cash payments for paypal, do you check that box that says you accept paypal? If you do, it shows credit cards in your auction. I have been checking, but have in my auctions that I don't accept credit cards. What do you think?

Also, I have two paypal accounts. One that accepts credit cards and one that does not. I think I read that I can't pass along the fees for paypal, but if they want to use a credit card, and they email me, is it wrong for me to tell them that they have to pay the fees?

Well, she either pulled her car over to watch the grand finale of the airshow (it was wonderful), or she went garage saleing in her neighborhood, and then had to unload the car LOL!

If you put a check mark there it DOES indicate that you accept credit cards.. That's a problem I ran into in the beginning - before I knew better - and before I started accepting creidt cards..

As for requesting they pay your Paypal fees - I'm 99.9% sure that's against some "rule" (although I have seen people actually state it in their auctions) and I myself would not deal with someone who requested that fee from me..

Although the Paypal fees hurt a bit (although not nearly as much if you get the debit card and use it as a charge card so you can get 1.5% cash back) it's really more convenient for ME.. I have my money instantly - can use it to MAKE money - and I'm POSITIVE it has sent many, many more customers my way..

Maybe some of the "veterans" here know the rules specifically..;)

You can't play - 'cause you're not a "student".. LOL

------------------------- I saw some of the air show as I was coming through Scotia and saw all the folks with their lawn chairs in Collins Park.. What a neat idea!! Maybe next year we'll go and see it from the park... 'Course the State Police were NOT happy with all the folks pulled over on 890 interfering with the flow of traffic and standing real close to the white line on the road!!

I just want everyone to know that I have officially paid for my Disney cruise and Universal trip this November. The majority of the money came from Ebay. I added in a couple of incentive checks I received and about $1000 from income tax refunds. But in just a little over a year I have saved over $5000.

I am SO happy and I want to encourage anyone who is on the fence to give ebay a try and JUST DO IT!

We had a large family picnic on my brothers front lawn just above the airport. Awesome!

:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc You have been so helpful, you have given me sooooo many ideas!!! I bet I can find many things I would never have even thought of, thanks to you. I'll let you know what I find and how it goes! I'm sure I'll have more questions. It's nice to know you are here.:sunny:

Hello all,
Haven't been posting much this summer as I have been in the process of getting my real estate license and so haven't had time to list on ebay, but I have been keeping up with everyone via reading. Getting ready to start some listings after Labor Day.

Question about clothing--specifically kids. Do those of you who sell it really find it worth the time and effort? I used to sell DD Gymboree stuff when she was littler, but it seems like there is sooo much listed on there now, I have just wondered if the final bids come in at a decent enough price to warrant it.

I'd love some tips on what people list--as far as name brand, groups etc and how you title your auction to get people to look at it. Anyone care to share?

My tip for the day -
Avoid Duck brand packing tape at all costs. I just bought some because it is cheaper but it is the worst stuff I have ever used. It splits and refused to stay in the tabs so each time you use it you have to waste 18 inches getting it started again.
I will stick to 3M from now on!!

Hi,

I won an item from a seller that said if I want to pay through paypal, to send it to the email address she provided. When I went through the link provided on the checkout page, it gave me a different email/ID for the seller. I can't find where you change that information. Does anyone know how I would do that?

Thanks,

Martha

Congratulations, Nuke!!! That is awesome! It is just amazing what can be done with some inspiration, motivation & a touch of perspiration!

And I think that when you get on a roll with the eBay profits coming in, it really encourages you to add to it by saving funds from other sources.

OK, C.Ann - please spil the beans - what were you doing for 20 minutes??? Was it freebie day somewhere?
