You can't wear what to school?????

However, I don't really agree with the tank top, flip flop and sandal rules, we are a beach community....we live less the 2 miles from the ocean and delaware bay, and both schools are less then 1/4 mile.

We have a flip flops and sandals rule, too. We were told it is for safety reasons - if they have to evacuate, the kids are more likely to trip or lose a shoe if they don't have something with a heel strap.

And, from the prospective of a mother of a son, 17 1/2 years old: just how is he supposed to focus on chemistry when he is surrounded by girls who are showing off the product? He goes to school to learn (well, I wish he did anyways:sad2: ) not to save money on porn. For the mothers of young girls out there, send your girls to school dressed respectably, do yourself, them, and all the boys out there a favor. I gotta tell ya, I pick my battles with my kids because I know there is just too many things that just don't matter but IMHO the way kids dress does matter, at least when it comes to showing your skin, whether that's a butt, a bxxb, or a belly, doesn't matter -- cover it, school is not a nightclub!

:confused3 17.5 year old boys would look at girls dressed in a potato sack and have fantasies about what was under all that burlap. It is just the way they are built. Stop blaming the girls for your son's inability to concentrate in school.

Our local school district where DH teaches and son goes, there is a long list of items you can NOT wear to school......starting with flip flops, open toe shoes, tank tops, hoop earrings, shirts that promote violence, sexuality, laziness, or disrespects authority. Girls can not wear sweatpants or shorts with saying on the butt ( which I never understood in the first place, but thats because you could put a sentence on mine......lol). There are more but I have a 6 year old boy, so other then the sandals and some t-shirts it doesn't pertain to us. I live only half an hour north from you and the school district my son attends went to uniforms this year. I was miffed at first, but it's actually pretty nice. LOL But the old policy was pretty much the same as your's. The flip flop/sandal rule was never enforced at the beginning or end of the year though. :) Tank tops were NEVER allowed either.

The only thing you're not allowed to wear to our school is stuff with bad words on them. Our girls teachers encouraged them to wear tank tops because it gets so hot in the classrooms.. thankfully we dont have idiots who run the school who want to kill our kids with sweating to death :rotfl: they also have to wear sneakers on "gym" day. but I decided to home school.. so they are actually still in the Pj's for "school" most of the time  This is the only year we are doing it.. next year is off to big school! :scared:

Our jr high has a dress code and the only thing I have an issue with is the skirts. My youngest dd is now in 6th grade and prefers skirts. I really don't think her knees are such a distraction that boys will fail. :lmao:

Even Marcia Brady wore mini-skirts!!

Most of those girls are very sneaky and leave the house with more clothes on and then "shed" the top layer when they get to school. I had friends when I was in school (we won't discuss how long ago that was) that did exactly this. Their parents didn't even know they weren't "dressed respectably". I wasn't comforable enough to dress that way, so I wasn't one of those sneaky kids! I pray that my daughter doesn't pull this craziness when she gets to that age.

Ouch!!!

Half-naked girls are only one of the reasons my son has trouble concentrating in school -- one of the other main reasons is that many of those girls are advertising exactly what they are giving out freely. Maybe its society and maybe its parents inability to supervise what their girls wear or maybe some parents don't care but classes at DS high school borders on the likes of a seminar at a strip joint so... then there's the logical reasons: how is he going to play at the game on Saturday, will his girlfriend be made at him again for whatever this weeks' reason is (don't get me wrong, he's most likely at fault:rotfl2: ) and how is he going to make the best life decision that really is weighing him down: college or military?

I agree that he will daydream either way but come on, have you seen the way these girls dress? BTW, I've helped raise two stepdaughters, now 25 and 27 and have another daughter, age 10, and maybe they changed their clothes out behind a bush or something but they did NOT leave the house looking like streetwalkers and unless they were purchasing clothes and hiding them where I could not find them, they did not own the type of clothes where everything hangs out.
