From MCO to disney you can still pay cash for tolls, correct? We are renting a car from dollar. Thank you. D.

Our last trip that we drove from the AP to Disney we did, that was this past November.

What about from WDW to Cocoa Beach and Clearwater Beach? Can we still use cash?

For anyone who only drives from Orlando Int'l Airport to the tourist corridor and back, there are two tolls in each direction -- regardless of whether you use the northern route (528 to I-4) or the southern route (417 to exit 6).

You don't need a roll of quarters. Both routes have "Change-Receipt" toll booths available. You can pay with dollar bills and you can get receipts.

To get receipts, you have to go through a toll booth with person. The exact change lanes do not provide receipts. Some people one this board have complained about getting charged for an unpaid toll and service fee by their car rental company despite paying cash tolls. The advantage of getting receipts is that you can then prove you paid.

Just pay attention. The cash toll lanes look somewhat like highway exits, so they're easy to overlook if you don't expect your exit for many miles. The signs have improved, but I'm sure their are still tourists who fail to notice how to get to the cash toll lanes.

There are no tolls along I-4, so, once you're in the tourist corridor, you can visit WDW, SeaWorld, Universal, and popular shopping destinations without tolls.

Why not just buy a Sunpass transponder? Who wants to sit in line behind people digging coins out of their purse/wallet?

Why buy a SunPass transponder and register it (and unregister it after the rental), just to pay two tolls from the airport and two tolls to the airport?

I don't think I've ever waited more than minute to pay a toll on 528 or 417.

Just wish they would update their technology so you can just use your cell phone as a transponder and get rid of the manned toll booths.

I'd be happy if they just reciprocated with EZ-Pass. I already have that, but it doesn't work south of NC. :(

Whereas I am 100% fine with manned booths and have zero interest in my cell phone being a transponder for paying tolls. I'm getting ones for tips anyway, so I add some more to an easy-access area of my bag and it's totally easy. I've been stopped annoyingly exactly once at a toll, and it was a totally rude guy who had cut in front of me for no good reason and then took ages to pay... But that's one time in our trips since 2010. Totally no biggie!

it is work in progress

FL began with a very early version of the electronic toll system. I got my first transponder in 2000. FL recently sent me new transponders for free mentioning it was a step towards compatibility with other systems.

I DO see long queues at the manned booths on 528 on occasion. I doubt the wait ever exceeds 4 minutes ... but 4 minutes can seem like 30 while you watch the electronic lanes just zip thru ... and the exact change lanes move faster too.

OTOH if you have a transponder .. register/unregister takes about 120 seconds . . .

How much is it?

Oh never mind.

How much are the tolls from MCO to Disney area? It's been a while for me, would like to know how many quarters to have on hand.

I bring along my GPS and set it to find a route without tolls. According to googlemaps from the airport to WDW avoiding the toll route is an extra 4 minutes driving time. No lugging quarters on the plane, no digging for said quarters (lol) makes 4 minutes worth my time and lack of effort.

We head over to see grandma in Clearwater and again, the difference to avoid tolls is two minutes. Two minutes on an over hour long drive is just not worth worrying over.
