LOL... I watched a guy at our work make a dip from scratch yesterday. I ate some. A few scoops.

Later I saw the empty container... expiration date was March 2005!

But, I feel just fine today.

My mom would be so thrilled. She insists the expiration date on sour cream is just put there "so the company can make more money".

I agree with this. There is no way that sour cream was 2yo old - it would have molded and probably turned to liquid.

I have an unopened container in my fridge that expired at the end of Oct. It is still sealed. I just checked it- no green. I was going to make dip, now I guess I still can.

There had to have been a ton of preservatives in the sour cream then. It would never have lasted 2 years without spoiling even if your friend had freezed it.
