I am hosting a Pity Party for myself! I just found out that a job I was soooo sure I would get a chance to get went to someone else. See, I am a newly certified teacher who had a wonderful (or so I thought) experience with a local school district for my student teaching. They even called me the day after my last day of student teaching to come substitute for them. I made it known to everyone how much I love the school and wanted to be considered for a position that would be opening up by a retiring teacher...and then they didn't even call me for an interview! My feelings are hurt and I thought I would wallow in self-pity for a few hours and then get on with my life! I guess it just wasn't meant to be, but oh, I wanted it soooo badly! Thanks for putting up with my complaining!
:charac2: My teeny tiny violins are playing, can you hear them?

Awwww! I am so sorry! It is so hard when you truly believe that you have hit "it!" But it wasn't meant to be!

Hugs and good thoughts coming through the lines to you!

Michelle

I'm sorry that you did not get a chance to even interview for the position. It sounds like the district missed out on hiring a great teacher. My mom always said that when one door closes, another opens, so maybe something even better is just around the corner.

Nancy

Thank you, too Nancy!
I really am a firm believer in "what is meant to be will be." I just thought this one was meant to be!

I really believe that you always land exactly where you are supposed to be.

I'm sorry you didn't get the job that you wanted but keep in mind that there's a reason for that even if you don't see it right now.

In the meantime, big hugs to you!

Polly

OK, let's see if I can help - do what I do and allow yourself some self indulgent rationalizing for a few minutes!

They were jealous of how pretty you are!

or they gave the job to a relative of the school board president!

or you're so smart and capable the other teachers were afraid that if you got hired you'd make them all look bad!

it was a terrible job, anyway!!!

Don't worry, the right job will come along!

Thank you, Polly, for the hugs!

auntpolly...you made me laugh! Thank you for that! Yeah! That's the ticket! All of what you said must be true! lol

 It was not meant to be. Something better will come up one of these days, I'm sure of it.

I'm so sorry. :( Did you officially apply for the position? It seems strange to me that you didn't even get an interview. I guess I am just wondering if the person who does the hiring actually knew you wanted the position.

Best wishes for getting a job that you will love!! :sunny:

You have gotten some great responses - LOL auntpolly!

The same thing happened to a friend of mine. She was sure she would get a job in the district where she student taught. But it was not meant to be. She spent a year as a paraprofessional, helping a girl with extreme difficulties one on one in the classroom.

This year, she was hired as a 5th and 6th grade teacher in a very small school district. For salary purposes, they consider her experience last year and call her a second-year teacher. She is really nervous but I am so happy for her.

I hope good luck comes your way!

Denae :sunny:

EsmeraldaX, Thank you!

TigerBear, I spoke to the superintendent and the vice-principal directly (it is a small district to the super is the principal) and told them I wanted to be considered for the position. They were encouraging and told me that while the position hadn't been officially posted yet (they were waiting to hear if another teacher was coming off of a leave of absence) they would keep me in mind. I went on to substitute for the school for the entire month of June. I ran into a teacher I know from the school today and she told me they had interviewed several people and hired someone several weeks ago. So my pity party includes me kicking my own butt for not being a squeaky wheel at the school...perhaps I should have been calling on a regular basis to say "Hey! I'm here! I'm still interested!" I just assumed they would let me know when the would be hiring for the job...but you know what they say about assuming....I made an *** out of me, anyway!

Denae,
Thank you for joining my party! And I plan on working my butt off as a substitute, a TA...whatever it takes to pay my dues and get the job I feel I was born to do!

I thought of another one - would you really want to work for people who were so dense that they couldn't see what an absolutely perfect choice you would have been???? I don't think so!:confused3

Ibelieveinfairies, I just know from my experience with school districts that often times the HR department and hiring practicies in general are nothing like corporate America. Some of my stories would probably actually surprise you in terms of lack of professionalism. Keep you chin up - I bet the right job for you is just around the corner! :D

Yeah! Right! :p

TigerBear, thanks for the encouragement!

So sorry you didnt get the job, but keep trying. I am sure you will be a great teacher to some really special kids. Just curious - did you graduate st. joseph's. I know they are the only college that requires a thesis for grad Have you looked at any private schools, I know they dont pay as much as public, but its a thought. Have you tried any other school districts, or just the one that you wanted the job at. You might do better with a huge district. Nassau or Suffolk. How about a temp. position for maternity leave. I do know of one girl who will be on maternity in the Longwood district. (Suffolk) Best of luck to you. Remember, when you teach, you touch a life forever.

luvmarypoppins,
I graduated from LIU in May. I haven't looked at private schools, but have sent out resumes to all the local districts. I am on the sub lists at all of the local districts as well...hoping, yes, for a leave replacement (know of several teachers who will be going on maternity leave throughout the year). Thank you for your encouragement!

 I am so sorry that they did not even call you for an interview. Around here, from what I have hard, there are 60+ appliants for every 1 teaching position! Onto the pity party.....:thewave: Nothing I love more than a good pity party! :rockband: Now where did I hide that Hagen Das? :p Pixie dust to you.....:wizard:

winniedapooh,
You must have hidden your Hagen Das in my freezer, because I just stumbled upon and ate a whole bunch of it!! :teeth:
Any good pity party involves some ice cream!!
Thanks for the pixie dust!
