We have been looking for a new puppy. We would like a Yorkshire terrier do any of you have one or know of a good place to get one. I'd like to be able to see the parents and their homes and puppies personalities before paying any large amount of money. Thanks

I have a yorkie, she will be 9 in 3 days and her name is Peanut. She is a wonderful pet. I would love to have another one but Peanut is the princes of the house and would not like it too much to have to share her bed or bedroom (which is also mine) with another yorkie. She does get along great with other dogs and children. I have 2 year old American Bulldog and a 6 year old daughter. The American bulldog is allowed all over the house except Peanut's bedroom.

I have a yorkie, but got him free when a neighbor said they didn't want him anymore. He lived behind me then, but snuck under my fence every day to come over and play with my pugs. Since we've adopted him, he thinks he's a pug now. He gets along well with his pug siblings, but he is very protective of me for some reason. If anyone gets near me, he starts to go nuts. He is definitely a "one person dog" and I am "his person."

We got our Yorkie "Bundles" 5 years ago. We love him! The best part is he doesn't shed. We paid $500 for him and he was 2 lbs. then. my dh said he was like expensive filet mignon $250 a lb! He is worth every penny, he's smart, a good guard dog (he thinks he's is much bigger than 6 lbs!)

:wave2:

I have a yorkipoo named "Molly" I love her with all my heart!

Got her from Oklahoma........very easy process. The breeder I used was Deborah Byrd puppykiss.com

It would probably be helpful if you gave an area of the country (or world) where you would be willing to travel. Oklahoma, for instance, may not be any good if you live in Oregon.

I'm from MI but I would be willing to fly or drive to pick up the right little puppy. I know I'm being picky but believe me he will be spoiled rotten.

We have a Yorkie too - Maia (aka Stitch) the only animal with a pedigree in our house, and she thinks she is Queen. Also the smallest of all the animals including the cats!

She is such a sweetheart at times, but other times - oh boy! She is VERY busy, and is always carrying things around the house! She likes to bark too.....

She was one in December, and will have been part of our family a year next week!

I got her from a breeder in Alabama.

I have a Yorkie too.....see my pics below.....but she is definitely very large for this type of dog (about 16 pounds). I saw both the mom and dad before we brought her home and I can tell you she is bigger than both her parents-lol.

She is absolutely adorable....she sleeps like a baby with her head on the pillow and covered in blankets. She does love to bark though (can't figure out how to make her stop :confused3 ;) We have 2 other large dogs (golden retreiver and a shepard mix) and she gets along great with them Good luck!

I think our "girls" are related. Maia LOVES to bark (she is barking at Princess right now because she is on the bed, and Maia wants to play), Maia iis on the large size too. She's still a sweetie, and it's probably for the better the way she likes to rough house with the big dog!

If you figure out a way to stop the barking let me know.... short of duct tape or a muzzle! I've threatened her with both.... but she knows I would never!

We have two Yorkies with two completely different personalities.

Chandler is 10 and very set in his ways. He is so smart that it is scary. He likes to play only when he feels like it. He is well trained (thinks he is an guard/attack dog), loyal, and wonderful dog.

Sydney turned 1 last week and is always up for play time. I don't think she has a brain in her head. She still can't figure out that she needs to potty outside. She will run up to kiss anyone who comes to the door. There is no dog sweeter than she is.

Both of my dogs are great with my kids (especially Sydney). They sleep with DH and I, and I can't imagine my life without them. Chandler weighs about 7 lbs and Sydney is around 6 lbs. I love them so much as does all of my family.

I have a Yorkie and she is also large. (14lbs.) I didn't want a really small dog but when i went to get her they said her parents weighed 6 and 8lbs. I thought that would be perfect. Well I think I was lied to. But to us she is still small because we have 2 large dogs. She gets along with the other dogs but thinks she is the boss. My collie doesn't mind but my lab mix puts her in her place sometimes. She is actually the better watch dog, barking whenever anyone is here. I think all the barking comes with the breed. I do love that she doesn't shed though.

You need to start your search at the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America and search for a reputable breeder in your area.

We have a Yorkie as well, and got him from a breeder in Alabama. He is only CKC registered, not AKC so we paid a lot less and he's not a "mini", although he only weighs around 6 pounds and looks like a pitiful little rat when he's wet.

We also have a Dachshund, we got her from a breeder in Georgia and she is by far the baby of the household. She'll be 7 in October.....and we've had her since she was about 3 months old.

Yorkies are very active little dogs, they like to play and bark. They are terriers, and all terriers are like that from my experience. Dachshunds are more relaxed, although most of them like to bark as well. Just because people 'spoil' their Yorkies because they are cute and cuddly, they grow up with the baby attitude. Our Yorkie wakes us up around 6:30 every morning, crying and scratching at our arms to get up. He was harder to train and still (he's 2) doesn't mind all the time.

With all that said, they are cute loving dogs....but my husband and I have both agreed they are a lot more upkeep then we ever would have imagined for such a small dog. We love our Yorkie and Dachshund to death.....but people really need to compare dog breeds/mannerisms before choosing the breed they want to spend the next 15 or more years with :)

There are Yorkie Rescues out there if you want to contact one of them (just do a search on Yorkshire Terrier Rescues and you should have lots come up in your area). Some of the rescued ones are young, people get them and can't potty train them or they have a baby and give up the dog....etc. When you get a rescued Yorkie (or any other rescue) they are up to date on shots and also spayed/neutered.....and usually for a 1/4th of the cost of a puppy from a breeder. http://adopt-a-yorkie.1-800-save-a-pet.com/

Another great site is Petfinder.com, you might also try searching there. And as another poster mentioned....also the AKC website :)
