Yorkshire Fish & Chips

You know, I was just in London and maybe Disney is tyring to go for hte authentic experience. I honestly thought the best food would be fish & chips - nope! Talk about flavorless. I can do better here. I guess that's why they drown it in malt vinegar. Everything was flavorless though. I know that's the reputation, but I had assumed it was exaggerated. It was not.
You need to go to an authentic chippy. Fryers Delight in Holborn was my go-to when we lived in London; it’s where the cabbies eat. Fish! in Borough Market is more upscale but never let us down. London has amazing food but not so much where tourists congregate. With that said, I’m not fond of Epcot’s fish and chips - where are the mushy peas?! It’s not proper fish and chips without them :P

Florida does not really count as "The South" - at least not in cullinary terms. 😁
I guess I haven't had real southern food then, and I'm happy to hear that. Overall, I think the food is fine here, but not nearly as good as the northeast.

We did go to one place that had this really good pea mash side, but the fish & chips was pretty average at best. Other places basically gave us a cup of unseasoned peas (someone ordered teh Fish & Chips at almost every meal, and I tried most). I couldn't get my family away from the "touristy" areas though for the most part. They have... particular tastes (the whole impetus for the trip was a bit controvversial). I honestly don't doubt that there is some good food to be had in London, but I sure didn't find it.

Also though, what's up with the thimble sized cups of water? If you ask for water they look at you like you're crazy, then they give you the tiniest glass! How do you guys stay hydrated? 🤣

Yorkshire used to have great fish and chips YEARS ago when it was cod. Now, it's tasteless and has too much breading.

Never been to UK, Grew up in the south and fried fish was not great except for the fresh catfish which is delish. It is odd because the fried shrimp, scallops and oysters are fantastic.

Best fried fish is here where I live in WI. Because of the heavy Catholic population having fish on Fridays, they take the "fish fry" very seriously here. Incredible. Typically consists of fried fish, french fries, cole slaw, tarter sauce and rye bread or a dinner roll. It's usually cod but during Lent the coveted Walleye comes in play. And, it's not only in the restaurants. Catholic churches have fish frys and the congregations have closely guarded recipes for their fish and cole slaw.

That's interesting, I've always thought cod was flavorless. I wonder if they took a seasoning out of the batter because usually I find tilapia has more flavor than cod, it is just much thinner.

We stopped by during opening day of Festival of the Arts, and I made the comment that I've had better fish at Captain D's.

Sad because we used to love that place (pre-pandemic), minus the fries.

That's because the BEST Fish & Chips is actually found here in Australia!

Next time you go, I’ll be happy to give recommendations!

Beer, of course! Oh, and tea.

(But I’m not British, I just lived in London for several years and go back often.)
