what are crisps?
can one get the fish w/out the chips?

I think crisps are probably like potatoe chips, that is what a friend of mine from Canada called them.

I don't know if you can get the fish w/o the chips, but they were really good.

Correct.

Crisps are potato chips and the chips that come with your fish and chips are fries.

Can't answer the question regarding not getting chips with your fish, sort of defeats the purpose of fish and chips but I suppose if you asked them they would leave them off the plate.

Yes Crips in the UK are potato chips

Yes you can just get fish if you want

Chips however in the UK are fries just incase you weren't sure and not potato chips which is why fish and chips are served together.
