I have reservations at Rose and Crown and feel that pretty much all 6 of us will order fish and chips. I noticed that the fish and chips at Yorkshire County (which we've had and love) are about half the price. (We aren't on DDP) Can anyone tell me the difference between the two. Am I just paying more for atmosphere? Worth the increase in price? Thanks all in advance for the response.

Rose & Crown - one large piece of fish, plus chips and I think peas or mushy peas, possibly some other vegetable at times. Served on a plate.
Yorkshire County - two smaller pieces of fish, plus chips. No vegetable. Served in a cardboard "boat"
Rose & Crown Pub menu - "snack size," consists of one of the smaller pieces of fish, plus chips. Served in a basket.

I also understand that the fish at Rose & Crown dining room is a different type of fish than the fish used for the QS and the pub. Not that I remember which fish is which.

If all you want is the fish and chips, probably not. Might be worth eating them from Yorkshire and then heading to Rose and Crown for a beer just to soak in the atmosphere.

If all you want is fish n' chips, i'd just go with Yorkshire County. You'll save a ton of money....and it seems like the same fish to me. I feel as though yes, you'd basically be paying for the atmosphere. We have a ton of English style pubs in Canada so that type of atmosphere isnt anything special to me. But to each their own. Whichever you choose, both serve great food. Have fun!

You can order fish and chips inside the pub where they will bring it to you, or you can buy fish and chips outside at Yorkshire and then carry it into the pub, assuming you can find a place to sit (seating is limited in the pub; unless you get there when they open, seating 6 persons in there is pretty doubtful. You can always eat at tables outside). Big difference is that you get two pieces of fish if you order at Yorkshire, and one if you order in the pub.

The biggest downside, to me, of Yorkshire is the lack of seating. I like to sit down (and not on the ground) when I eat. And I also prefer to have a place to set my food (i.e., a table). Now, that's me, not other people. YMMV. I would personally pay to eat in the restaurant as I find that to be a more relaxed experience.

Thanks for all the info! My parents are also coming with us so I guess I'll let them decide. This is their one and only trip so I want it to be awesome!
