YOAMD a no show

Personally, I love to come here to read about someone else's funny stories, great meals & what particularly knocked their socks off. I truly appreciate all of you who "share" so generously your pixie dust moments.

If I can direct everyone in this thread to look for another thread recently posted by someone else who won a big chocolate chip cookie -- now, that's no night in the castle, but I swear I enjoyed reading about it so much I feel like I won it. THAT'S what I love about coming here. I can't be in the world often enough, but lots of nice folks are generous enough to let me share in their trips. :thumbsup2

a: stop the smilies. They are really annoying.
b: I was not posting particularly about myself not winning anything, or that I had traveled and not won anything. Lines were under 10 minutes for the most part, and we didn't need any passes.

I was posting because there are many posts here about standing in this line, or that counter, or in this area, and seeing people running around flinging dream passes or ears, or free food to their heart's content.

I am describing the situations that I saw, so that no one has a false impression about what is going on there currently.

The point about the minimal amount of promotion on property was to point out that in the past, the huge giveaway promotions, like the car giveaway was known to everyone getting in line. It was hyped at the gate, and loudly. Now, YOMD is hyped to those off property as some huge giveaway where "dreams come true" every couple of steps. Once they are on property though, why remind anyone, since it isn't really like that?

Again, this isn't about me, specifically. This is just a trip report on what I saw with YOMD.

You sound like a HEAP LOAD of fun and Fun person to be around..thanks for sharing....

Just wondering, are we catching you on a bad day or are you always in such a delightful mood?

You didnt win a prize. You didnt see anyone who had won a prize. CMs went around handing your child free stickers and apparently it was a huge pain for you (ever thought of giving these to some other kid who would appreciate them?). Even worse, a CM came and talked to your DD and DIDNT GIVE YOU ANYTHING. OMG ! How rude!

Maybe it's an attitude thing and they dont give out free stuff to the people who a:expect it and b:complain when they DO get something.

She has a right to post her feelings. She felt disappointed she didn't see more magic moments and just wanted to share. I don't think she was a terrible whiny person or a negative person. The stickers story was kind of funny. I agree, a bunch of stickers is certainly not a dream for me!

Why can't people express their feelings, positive or negative without getting attacked by some. Why don't we tell her we're sorry she was disappointed and wish her luck next trip?

To the OP: Check out my post about me being being given a giant chocolate chip cookie :)

Maybe Disney needs to start adding into their advertising "This is a sweepstakes and not everyone can win. There are a few prizes for MANY people...you know, like they do for the advertisements aimed at the 5 year old.

Oh For the Love of BOB!!!

Sorry the stickers disappointed you. My dd loves getting them - go figure. :confused3
I get stickers and give them to people who have kids who have never been to WDW. :goodvibes This really makes their day. :cloud9: Maybe next time they will throw them back at me since I got them for free.

They also need to include that many people attend WDW each day and since few prizes are issued, it may be hard to actually witness this happening.

The Dream Squad is only sent out when a prize is to be given out. So, unless you are in the right spot at the right time, you probably won't see them.

Why would stickers make you mad? If you didn't want them than either decline or give them to someone else.

I was planning my trip way before the YOMD promotion was even announced. If I don't win anything (or even see someone winning something) it isn't going to ruin my trip. I would like to win, but the odds are against it. I am happy just to be there and if someone gives me stickers I will be happy and thank them.

Sigh. I wasn't disappointed. This was just a trip report regarding the giveaway.

Stickers don't make me mad, but you get tired of getting stickers every 20 minutes. What are you supposed to do with all of them? Actually, I did see them stuck on the walls in several attractions, so maybe they aren't the best cheap giveaway.

BTW, I'm not sure where the idea that I was there for YOMD came from. This was a trip revolving around Party for the Senses.

Many will enter. Few will win.

bah. Let people go in with high expectations. Theyre the same ones who schedule a trip the week of the 4th of July and then come back and complain that it was too hot, too crowded, too expensive.. etc.

Get over your entitlement issues... Just because you have children and took them to Disney doesnt mean Disney has to make their stay magical. How about you be a parent and make their stay magical yourself.

OR dont come into a message board and post this sort of stuff expecting coddling.

Judging from both your threads this morning I'm gonna guess you're a glass half empty type of person.

The overload of stickers part has got me plotting what we will do if DD is hit this hard with them. I could buy another autograph book to serve as a sticker book. She has a sticker book at home, so this isn't new. Maybe we could label the pages with the parks names. Do you with autograph books always get them filled up? This next time will be the first that we will do an autograph book. We have gotten from it so far because DD was younger.

:) (that is for the smiley hater :goodvibes )

I thought I had read some where that the "dream squad" wasn't as obvious looking as they were a few weeks ago, which would explain why you didn't see much. I could be wrong, and I'm sure the giveaways are slight in relative to the number of people visiting the parks.
With that said, why be so negative? I understand you SAY you weren't necessarily complaining about yourself, but your post came off a little on the side of your glass being half empty. If you weren't complaining for yourself, then what's the line about the campaign being a "big zero in my eyes" mean? It's so much more fun to spread the magic yourself than to be wondering why you're not seeing others doing it. I've read threads here lately about people who've had to cancel, or just can't afford to go right now. We leave in less than 4 days and all I care about is getting there. I've almost forgotten about the giveaways. I just want...to BE there.

I'm hoping the squads aren't too obvious now also. I heard reports of people literally hounding the squad members, hoping to be 'johnny on the spot' when the squad member was ready to hand out a prize. My god people....can you imagine stalking a CM in order to get a free Mickey hat??? They are instructed quite well as to the where/when/who about the prize giveaway. I'm going next week.....would it be nice to be surprised? Sure. But, I'm going about my day, having fun with my new teenaged dd. It's magical just being there....I don't need a free hat to make it any more magical!!!!

I feel the same way about the lottery. I expect to win every week, but I never do. :rotfl:

DH keeps doing the lottery wrong, just can't seem to get the right numbers. MEN!!! Pffft! :lmao:

As for the YOMD, forget about it! It's DISNEY WORLD - from the first minute I read about YOMD, I thought it was so strange because to me, going to Disney World *IS* a dream come true, no other dreams to satisfy (other than the lottery thing, lol).

One reason there's no promotion at the parks may be that some who know about the prizes are stalking the dream team.

We just got back and you couldn't tell they were doing anything either. Of course it was a mom and me trip so 2 adults they probably wouldn't target us anyway. We never saw anyone win anything and didn't even really see any of the dream passes either.

I saw only one family with the mouse ears.

Believe me I wasn't expecting anything, we had a great trip. But it would be nice to see more people actually win something or be given something.

Maybe we just weren't in the right place.
