I didn't know this (and I know I am not supposed to go to Lowes but my pocket book says I have to)...

Lowe's will beat any advertised price on appliances and beat it by 10%, so if you have a washer and dryer on sale for 999.99, they will give you the same set for 899.99. So, I am going to Lowe's to see if they are worth their word.

Jen- Get Lowes to write down their best price & then take it to Home Depot. Our store manager will always out-price Lowes by 10%...but you have to have it in writing.:thumbsup2

but they don't have the washer i want....now what?

see, i had the repair guy come out 8 mos ago (when Chris was off work, BIG MISTAKE) and he put in a new main circuit board...250 bucks...I was so mad he authorized that, but water under the bridge...

anyway, same board made very expensive smell right before we went to the fort and dryer is not far behind...went to consumer reports and they said best value for the money and reliability is the fridgidare gallery series...

we got ours at home cheapo... (sorry deb and now that Tony Stewart won't be driving for them anymore I can say it more).... They do have the best prices...

Thanks everybody for the prayers!

DEB- "Death, where is your sting?" I left MILs Bible open to that page....I hope she sees it. Thanks for that!

Scott's G-dad had a pretty good night last night despite everything. He has a brain tumor and it's growing rapidly. I adore that man! He is the sweetest, gentlest man you could ever meet! With WW2 stories that could curl your hair! I'm really not ready for this.

His Stepdad, on the other hand, isn't fairing so well. He was pretty out of it yesterday.

I have to say, though. Last night, I sat out on MILs porch. She lives just a bit off the beaten path and right next door to her parents. It's quiet out here, except for the crickets and bull frogs and the sound of water rushing over rocks in her pond. Her porch is something right out of an old movie set. Burl himself would be proud. I sat on her rocker with the blueish light covering everything, listening to the sounds of nature and my girls and their cousins chasing frogs and fireflies in the yard, running back and forth between the 2 houses. This is the stuff that makes memories. My kids will always remember summer nights at their Grandparents house. I just can't help but think that the summers just won't be the same after this one.

wow, those sound like good memories... now all you need is Burl to sing for everyone.....

Keep your chin up.

It's okay, Pete. They don't give the employees a discount, so Home Cheapo is appropriate!!!

I hate Lowes more, if that makes you feel any better... they are a pain in the buttocks to deal with on a business standpoint.

They are worth their word. We got our washer there last year. We just called HH Gregg from Lowe's and they gave us HH Greggs price minus 10%. Of course, ours cost nowhere near that, cause our old one broke at the worst possible time, so we just got another standard washer. Our hope is to get one of those new FL sets soon.

Good luck Jen with the washer and dryer! Great way to get back to the real world isn't it? We returned home to 101 temp and a broken air conditioner downstairs. DH thinks it is the compressor, of course! We are just thankful for air upstairs otherwise we would be in the pup in the driveway. I keep thinking this is gas money for a fort trip.

And so will you....and memories cant be taken away. They are taking the first step of a journey to a much better place...they arent leaving you guys behind....they are just going ahead of you to make sure that everything is perfect for when you arrive.

Surprisingly insightful. You are deeper than you appear, Rog.

I think you are both right. Marilyn was played by two different actresses during the Munster tenure.

Jim, it's not a matter of being right. I simply asked her which marilyn was it, Pat Priest. everyone knows there were 2 Marilyns.... although they are less popular than Dick York and Sergeant.

I'm hating being a college student at 40yrs old right now.

Welcome to the kingdom of "old-fart-dom", Pete. Hang in there...it'll be worth the effort. In today's world, a BA is the equivalent of an AA 10 years ago. If you don't have an MBA...you're worth squat!

My fear is that once I get it, I'll still be worth squat.

That being said, degrees are becoming more and more less necessary. I'm a software engineer, and not a single person in my entire company has a degree, they are all self-taught. Myself, I went to college for a couple years, but found it wayyyyyyyyyyy too slow and absolutely pointless. I've been doing this for over 10 years now, and the lack of a degree has only made me realize how much money I saved...lol. The problem is that colleges have basically become money mills, and the increasing price of education is absolutely ridiculous. It's no longer about putting forth the brightest, it's about how much money can be made.

I understand that degrees are still required for a lot of fields out there, but I even heard my dad say the other day that a degree just isn't worth much anymore (obviously doctorates and the like still are), and he was ALWAYS a huge "you gotta go to college" kind of guy. He was a cop for 25 years, and the only reason he got a degree was for the pay raise. Go figure that he graduated Summa Cum Laude....heh.

I just read a study today that only 15% of the parents of graduating high school seniors had the $100,000 for a college degree. Colleges are outpricing themselves, and unless you are in a field that absolutely requires a degree, I really don't see the need for one.

That being said, let me go deposit some money into Reilly's college fund...lol.

You will be more marketable, though. BA=Barely Acceptable. MBA= Might Be Acceptable!!!:rotfl:

I know it will pay off in the end, setting me apart from others, but dangit the light is a little flicker at the end of the tunnel. I just hope it's not Rog down there with his candle.

Every time I see a light at the end of my tunnel, it turns out to be a freight train at full speed, and it runs my *** down!
