Wow... just got home & read about Tim Russert on iGoogle. He died from a heart attack at 58... not much older than me! I read his books: "Wisdom of our Fathers" and "Big Russ and Me". They depict a very tender and thoughtful side of Tim. Both books are well worth reading.

Well... I raise a Smithwick (actually my second) in honor of Tim Russert:drinking1 . I enjoyed his commentary and style - even though I didn't always agree with him.

BTW Al, after the MGDD - I am now a tried & true Smithwick drinker. Ireland's oldest ale (or so it says on the bottle).

It is a most excellent ale!

Tim was a huge sports fan -- was a big booster of all Buffalo sports. Too bad. That's all that's on the news here. Tom Brokaw was one of his best fiends.

White Castle Sliders
Get a pound of 85% lean ground beef, and divide into 16 equal sized pieces.
Form each into a 2−1/2 inch square patties. Do this on waxed paper. Make
the patties very thin. Then "cookie−cut" five holes in each pattie.
(the pattern should resemble 5 on a dice) A CLEAN pen cap works nicely.
Freeze these 16 patties. (It'll make it easier later)
BUNS: the buns are also small. My grocer has dinner rolls the exact size
I need, but you might have to create your own using hot dog buns. One
hot−dog bun makes two White Castle buns. Simply cut in half (through top
and bottom) and then cut off the rounded sides to make them square.
COOKING: This is key. You need to finely chop a medium white onion.
On a pre−heated 375 degree electric griddle, lay about 1−1/2 Tablespoons
of onion for each patty you want to cook (generously spray with non−stick
spray like Pam first) The onions should only be "one deep" if you will.
Immediately place frozen patty directly on top of onions and press down.
Cook for about 4 minutes right on top of the onions. The holes in the beef
will allow the steam to cook the top side. (You don't flip)
Add a dash of salt and a pinch of pepper to each patty while they cook.
Remove and place on UNTOASTED buns.

Don't see an update on Seebee does anyone know what's up...just got a PM from Ami that I guess I was suppose to get yesterday...now I feel really confused, can someone give me an update ?

I don't think anyone has heard from Nicole. I'm really getting concerned. There was so much going on with Jim......

Deb did you get an email from Ami about a basket, I just got my PM today, has it went out ?

It hadnt gone out as of late yesterday afternoon.

Auntie, my dearest......you must be edumacated in the ways of American History, according to John Belushi:
The Germans Bomb Pearl Harbor

Oh...I'm sorry Rog, :flower3: I had no idea you were refering to a movie...What a dope,

That clip was pretty funny by the way! My son asked me why I was watching Animal House on yube tube. I showed him your post..apparently I am the only person on earth that didn't "get it".

Deb- Can I pretty please have a recap of the last 20 freaking pages ?!?! :) I am back from D.C with a sinus infection and a broken laptop. I am soooo behind on my boards. I have over 400 e-mails to sort through and yet here I am trying to catch up on THIS board ;) And I see you all went and divided it up on me while I was gone. Geez, leave you alone for a few days....

Washington was GREAT. But it was sweltering !! Over 100 each day with the heat index. HIGH humidity and not much breeze. We were all exhausted after a whole day of touring memorials and monuments. We had two kids pass out at Arlington because of the heat :( They were ok, but we ended up driving by a couple of other memorials after that and just staying in the bus with the a/c on. It was awful. We did get a special VIP tour of the Capitol building with Senator Kennedy's aides thanks to a mom in our group. We got to sit in on a senate session and get an underground tour and see some *secret* places the public doesn't usually get to go....very cool :thumbsup2 We also did all of the usual places along with the Flight 93 memorial and Gettysburg (which was very cool even for someone who isn't a war buff).

The Geek Squad has my laptop and we just got our internet hooked up to our main computers tonight so it feels REALLY good to finally be back online.

We haven't had anymore bat activity while I was away. Maybe the sonar things are working. Or maybe just the increased activity level in that part of the house is driving them away. My kids are totally capable of that :rotfl2:

I am going to mark this whole forum as read and PLEASE tell me if I missed anything good this week. I hate feeling out of the loop !!

Shannone, don't worry, you will catch up soon. I am sure Deb will put a nice report together for you...

Al, the interview went well. It helps that I already knew the principal, I worked for her when she was an AP about 9 years ago. The AP was confused to why I wanted to go back to elementary school because of the type of technology I deal with in HS, but I hope I satisfied his curiosity. I won't know anything until the middle of next week. Teaching jobs in that county are really scarce this year, so I will keep my fingers crossed. There is nothing on the coaching front, however, I haven't really gone there yet. My softball girls are still texting me, telling me that the admins will not let the parents or players talk to them in a meeting. I feel so sorry for them.

Keeping our fingers crossed for you Jen!!!!:thumbsup2

Soooooo glad to hear from you Nicole. How is everything!!!

Good to see you Nicole. I lost the forums and really like to lurk and LAUGH! How did Jim's surgery go? It was yesterday right? Keeping him and your family in our prayers.
Loretta

Hey all,

I'm with Shannone, way too much to catch up on, I'm not even going to try. I'll just wait for the rerun.:lmao: I just wanted to let you all know that Jim had his surgery yesterday and is doing well. It was a very LOOOOONNNNGGG day. He went into the OR at 11:30am and we got word that he was in the recovery room around 6:15pm. Aleise my 9 year old was getting very worried because it was taking so much longer than they had said. I didn't want to show her, but I was too. The doctor said it was a really hard case, and they had to go really slow. He didn't get into the ICU until almost 8. What a long day. So far so good, we just need to watch for wound infection, and sepsis(sp?) because that kidney was just a big pouch of infected puss(lovely image isn't it?).They are keeping an eye out for pnemonia too. His blood pressure is looking great though, and he isn't showing any signs of disreflexia which is awesome. He does have a slight fever and his white blood cells are elevated, but they think that is due to everything that has happened in the last 24 hours. He is out of ICU now, so now we just wait and hope he heals quickly. He still has one more surgery, on his right kidney, that they hope to be able to do in 2 weeks. That one isn't as serious though, so healing time should be less. We hope. Thanks to all of you for your prayers and well wishes. I truley believe that it helps. I hope you all have a great weekend!!

The greatest "re-cap" of all is Nicole's report on Jim. That is all we truly needed to know!! YaY for Jim!!!

Okay... now on to the trivial re-cap - not necessarily in chronological order:

Pete finally got his wish for a community board.

He almosted banished a few people from this board right off the bat (myself included).

Wildfan1473's 6 year old knows the song- "In Heaven There is No Beer"! Which impresses me and Al very much.

Jen had an interview for a job in a neighboring school system.

There were a lot of bad storms in Pa & Wi that affected some of our Dis-er's - but they are okay.

RVUsa John took a trip and was away from the boards for awhile & also wanted a re-cap.

Ami's DD sliced her foot open & needed stitches & is looking for a rubber sock same DD can wear so she can go swimming.

Someone won 1 million dollars on the Price is Right. (It wasn't any of us, so that is truly useless information)

There was a discussion about going fishing.

Pete publicly stated he wanted an Ultimate Wife to do his beck and call.

Mrs. Gatordad quickly reprimanded him stating she was HIS ultimate wife.

Pete apologized and said his wife was the dearest.

Phyllis' daughter almost died at the hands of her mother.

We all calmed Phyllis down.

Ynottony99 got married on Thursday and just kinda snuck that announcement in on the regular board, but we all caught it!!

A rabid otter went on a biting rampage.

John's PO'd over something about his website. My guess is his little Indian guy messed up again.

Rog gave John the following pep talk: WTH???? Ya cant just QUIT!!!!!Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... the tough get goin'!

Phyllis didn't realize the above pep talk was a movie quote & asked "Wasn't it the Japanese that bombed Pearl Harbor?" :rotfl:

Friday night we all had a virtual "Beer Fest"

Tim Russert died :(

There was some Elvis talk, some Judas Priest talk, White Castle Burger recipe, concerns for Nicole & Jim (which have been answered - YaY), and finally...

Shannone's return from DC & trip report.

I think that about sums it up from Wednesday on.

Feel free to add anything I might have missed.
