I just found out Disney let my offer go through, so I'll soon be the proud owner of 150 points and VWL. The contract was

150 points @ VWL
June use year
14 banked points
$69 per point
I pay full year maintence

Since most deals usually pro-rate the maintenance, I figure I paid an extra $300, bringing the real purchase price to $71/point.

I was quite surprised this went through, since just two weeks ago Disney bought out an offer I made for 170 points @ $72/point. That had a few more banked points and was an October use year. Just shows there's no telling what will happen. Perhaps Disney ran out of money with their apparent buying spree last month :-)

The timeline was as follows:
6/10 - Made offer
6/11 - Offer accepted and all paperwork faxed
6/25 - Notified that Disney passed on ROFR

Good luck to everyone else waiting with their fingers crossed.

Congratulations! Can I ask what broker you went through? I made an offer for a contract, that was accepted same day, on 6/13 and I'm hoping to hear soon if it goes through or not.

Thanks!

In general, how much more per point do buyers usually pay on closing costs on a resale (I'm trying to compare to Disney, since they pay all closing costs). Thanks!

a37027,

Closing costs on a 150 point contract seem to run between $400-$450; mine was $400.

Closing costs were $425.

I went through Jaki at "A Timeshare Broker" (atimeshare.com). On the previous contract (that Disney bought), I went through Pat at "The Timeshare Store". Both were great to work with.

Both also appear to keep their website listings updated daily. In both cases, the listing that I made an offer on was removed from the website within hours. At "The Timeshare Store", I noticed listings appearing and then disappearing within a day or two. So for everyone hunting for that perfect contract, make sure to check the sites frequently.

And for those of you who do the math, realize that I ended up paying just about $74/point, and ask "why not just go through Disney with Magical Beginnings"; there's two reasons.

First, I didn't want to give up my first year's points. I hope to make my first reservation (sorry, I don't do "ressies") soon and I didn't want to start out borrowing.

Second, the DVC guide I spoke with stated something that I haven't seen mentioned on this board: different points/use years are available for different states of residence, and for California (where I live) there weren't any use years available that would work for me. Also, I received a message earlier this week that VWL was sold out completely.

Oh, one final thing, my computer models predict absolutely horrendous weather in Florida the week before Thanksgiving, so I recommend anybody that currently has reservations cancel them immediately. For some reason, the weather at VWL looks particularly bad, so make sure to cancel all reservations there first.
