My wife and I are shopping for additional points -- we have 150 and would like 150 more. We've been eyeballing the Timeshare Store for resales, particularly at BWV. (We like BWV and BCV -- the latter is our "home" resort.) Out of curiosity, my wife called our DVC guide to see what they had available. She was told BWV points were going for $89 a pop -- and that we'd have to get on a waiting list AND make a downpayment.
Considering that resales are selling in the mid-70s, doesn't that sound steep??

There are other benefits too, the primary one being that you get the points as soon as you put down your deposit (well within 2 hours). And if you really need those points for an upcoming ressie for a prime time, immediate access comes in really handy. Another benefit would be that you are guaranteed to get the current year's points. Avoiding all the ROFR waiting is a nice benefit too. Now these are expensive benefits given the added cost, but in some circumstances they are worth it (eg BWV add-on in early November reserving the following year's Columbus Day F&W accommodations).
