and I wasn't even in the sun very long...the pool is in the shade, under the trees, and I was only sitting on the deck for a short time to dry off...

well, I guess pink is my color for now...

So sorry. If you have some aloe or similar gel put some on. Noxema is also good. As you found out, you can get just as sunburned on a cloudy day or in the shade.
