YIKES!! Chocolate frogs not really chocolate!!

We got a frog, and carried it around the park for the rest of the day. unfortunately, it melted into goo by the end of the day. We went back the next day and told the people in Honeydukes about it.

What did you expect would happen to it carrying it around all day in the Florida heat??

Ummmm Am I missing something? Universal TMs are warning people that chocolate frogs will melt in the extreme heat that is Orlando. You carried the frog around in the heat and it melted. And then you went back to complain about it the next day?

And somehow, it's Universal's fault that chocolate melts, and now they are lame?

Two different people posting. One person said that it melted and they went back to say something. Someone else said that the TMs warned her about it.

Who knows, perhaps the TMs started warning people AFTER enough people came back in, having just not thought about heat+chocolate, to say "why didn't you warn me?"

I think it's nice that they remind people. Helpful.

To avoid the frogs getting melted, just buy the frogs at the IOA or US stores near the gate. Also I believe the US store at Citiwalk and the Orlando airport also carry them.

Any chocolate, real or otherwise, will melt in the heat. I learned that the hard way with a German chocolate bar at Epcot once.

We just got home from FL and bought most of our frogs (for gifts) at the airport. My take, while it is cheap chocolate, it's not the worst I've had by far. I actually dont like Lindt. I prefer Godiva and Rocky Mountain Choc. Factory chocolates. I also am not a fan of the more bitter dark so I'm not exactly discerning or picky I guess. But IMO, $10 for that packaging, the nice card and that much chocolate (even cheap, it's big) is a fair price. I'm pretty familiar w/ packaging and marketing costs. I don't know too many kids (which this is mostly marketed to) would care one lick that it's akin to the Easter Bunny they usually get. My 10 year old loves it. We bought 5 of them as gifts. They are pretty hard to find outside of FL right now I think (which is how I found this thread through searching), so it's a fun gift. I can't imagine the cost if this had been a better grade of chocolate.

I have a story about the chocolate frogs... So, my 11-yr-old daughter bought one way back, right before WWoHP officially opened -- when was that, end of May? Anyway, we were staying at one of the hotels and got to go in for a soft opening... She got it home and took a bite and decided she hated it (darn palm kernel oil!!!). But, she liked the way it looked, so she built a little display for it in her room on her dresser. I told her she could keep it until it started to show signs of getting nasty (ie -- moldy or compromised in some other way) -- and wouldn't you know, it is still preserved PERFECTLY. No signs of its age whatsoever. I find this a little unsettling... lol

If they are not specially made for Uni then why are people blaming them for having "fake chocolate"? We haven't been yet and I haven't seen pictures so I don't really know if they are the same you can buy elsewhere I just assume they are...

I know they've had the smaller frogs available for quite some time, but these are bigger and in a completely different package. Is that the same thing you bought elsewhere? Could be, this is just the only place I've ever seen them and an internet search (albeit small one) didn't show anything but the smaller frogs in a different package.

Either way though I didn't get to go to IoA w/ my DH and DS10. My autistic toddler was just being too difficult, but from what I saw in his pix and what he brought home, it seems like they did a good job on a LOT of the stuff. Too bad about the butterbeer tho. I always imagined them to be deliciously butterscotchy and smooth. DH tried to buy one for me to bring back to AKL and the guy wouldn't sell him one because he was closing up (though the park wasn't yet). Sure isn't very Disney like, oh yeah, wasn't disney. I walked up to a little stand that was closing up and scrubbing clean to buy something at Epcot and they were delightful. sigh

I have nothing against Universal or Harry Potter. Still not going to pay $10 for a hunk of lousy chocolate. If you want to buy 'em for the cards and box, fine, but if you're at all interested in eating the darn thing I think it's relevant to know what kind of "chocolate" it is before you plunk that kind of cash down.

I completely agree -- we're not complaining here, just passing along information. If it doesn't contain cocoa butter, it's not chocolate (I think it's the cocoa butter, maybe it's just cocoa... I dunno, I'm no chocolate expert) -- it's the same thing with white "chocolate" -- not really chocolate. Not a complaint, just a fact. I can tell you one thing, if I had known in advance what the chocolate frogs tasted like, we would've just kept ours intact for display purposes. So this could actually be really helpful to someone.

Crap. I rarely frequent this board but I just went to WWoHP on Saturday and bought 2 Chocolate Frogs!

Wish I had seen this thread first.. or checked the ingredients..

I'm not a chocolate expert but I finally tasted the frogs and thought they were pretty good. They weren't waxy like some chocolate and were better than those chocolate bunnies at Easter. I also liked the fact that they were solid chocolate and not empty in the middle. For the price, I thought they were pretty darn good.

I didn't care for the taste of the chocolate but we all shared it and were just excited to be eating a chocolate frog.
