Yikes...a little worried..... Regarding ID

In California, you can't just walk in to the DMV and get a hard copy. You process the paperwork for one and then they mail it to you later...maybe 3-6 weeks?

Understood.

Some states allow a state ID, (non DL ) Still a photo ID.

In Port Canaveral, .....

Not sure how, CBP, DCL, or CPA, may respond.

Life's an adventure.

Have a Credit Card with an extra $1000 IMO.

I have heard of this. For illegal immigrants, .... lol. wait, this is for everyone.

So no one can walk in to a DMV and get a hard ID?

In states that have this restrictive Licensing, they usually have an alternative.

Like a non DL ID. Which is a hard ID, yet not a DL.Different pic/ info.

I'm surprised to hear yu can fly with just a paper copy of your drivers license?

You don't even have to have ANY ID for domestic flights. Go early, be prepared to answer questions.

My dad is ridiculous and has no DL and no state ID (b/c he can't, because he has fines due to the DL stuff) and no passport, and he flies domestically around once a year. It's even in the TSA info, that you don't *have to* have ID to fly.

And the alternative is a thick paper ID, because they mail the other item out later.

In WA, at least, even the non-DL IDs aren't given to you right then. It looks just like your ID, but on paper.

Tennessee issues a temporary, printed photo ID before the plastic one arrives. My wife flew with hers after my mom passed away and, other than freaking out the Seattle TSA drones, it was perfectly OK.

This cracks me up, given that the only grief she got during our funeral trip was from the SEA TSA because of her official paper ID. They even singled her out to have her bag sniffed by the special fake explosives security sniffer while I stood there in all my big-bearded, long-haired terrorist-looking glory and waited for them to approve the pretty, curly-haired redhead to get back on the plane she arrived in a week earlier.

Hi.....so we moved from one state to another..and right before my License expired I went and got the new one in the new state. They have given me a paper copy..however..I'm not sure I'll get mine in the mail in time. Has anyone had this happen before? The old one is expired now....and no time to get a passport.

Long story short, I discovered that I lost my ID when I arrived at the terminal. Luckily, I had an expired one in my wallet. I was able to board with my birth certificate and the expired ID ( I didn't point out to them, that it was expired, but it was at expired by at least 7 years). I confirmed once on board, that if I left for an excursion, that I would still be able to get back on. I never had a problem.

In California, its a piece of paper (half sheet) with DMV letterhead. They STAPLE your DL picture the the paper. Its quite unofficial and basically works if you get pulled over by a police officer to prove you have a DL.

I think the reason most states are moving AWAY from issuing a DL on the spot is because of the "Real ID" "law" passed 10 years ago ....

Closer to 6 weeks. Even the state ID (not driver's license) is a "we'll mail it to you" item.

In Florida you get your license the same day. We have to show a birth certificate or passport, Proof of a social security # and 2 proof of address.
I don't understand the long wait??

Mostly bureaucracy in CA. There's no way around the "we'll mail it to you" situation.

Thank you....the story about the expired ID gives me hope...I flew and rented a car all this week...and they never noticed it was expired.

I travel all the time...that isn't the problem. I just got off a southwest flight yesterday. I'm worried about DCL.

Yes. In recent years I have always had to show valid ID along with my boarding pass going through the airport TSA check. I use my passport. However, during the actual boarding process I have not had to show ID again except for certain international flights. For cruises, I have had to show ID and give my name and cabin number before entering the terminal.

This would be to get past TSA before entering the terminal.

We have to show the same thing in Michigan, but it still takes a few weeks before your get your actual ID. They staple a paper temporary to your old one and then you wait. I have no idea why we wait, we just do.

Yeah florida we get same day DL- takes about 10 minutes for them to have it ready for you. :smooth: Never even considered someone might have to wait.

I had a paper ID issued recently when I lost my existing ID. It did have a picture, and was valid ID. I flew with it several times before my "real" ID came.

Just a note, but to a previous poster, I'm pretty sure there is NO requirement to tell a state that you are leaving. When you enter a state with the intent to remain as a resident, most states have a time period in which you must go to the DMV to obtain a valid license or ID in that state (in Alaska, for example, it's 90 days).

Ah, if only the bolded were true, it would have saved me time and money! I moved out of one state to another and just went to the new state and got ID, etc. When I moved back to the original state, I was in for a world of paperwork. The insurance company notified the original state that I had canceled that state's insurance, so the state suspended my driver's license. Had I been caught speeding or anything, I could have been arrested, even though I was using a valid ID from another state. It was a confusing nightmare. Now I notify...

It really all depends on your state. Some require you to surrender your license plates, some don't require anything.

Temporary paper IDs are completely legal forms of ID issued by the state. But you should call disney and check. I know that if you are a permanent resident and do not have your permanent resident ID card they will not let you on the ship. No exceptions. No refund. So they can be very very strict.
