If Disney does not fix the Yeti problem, then the $200 million they spent on Expedition Everest is money down the drain. I cannot imagine a scenario where the most narrative coaster of all time loses its main story element.

An update on our beleaguered "Dance Club Yeti" Yeti from allears.net: "The Yeti at Expedition EVEREST has been feeling under the weather since last summer, when it was discovered that the huge (22 feet tall!) Audio-Animatronic's movements had caused stress fractures in its anchoring platform. At that time it was downgraded from operating in "A" mode (moving) to "B" mode (stationary, with strobe lighting and fans blowing to simulate movement). For several months it has been awaiting repair, but I've heard that the initial prep work for the rehab has finally begun. When or if it can be restored to its original operation is still to be determined..."
Any DAK insiders able to provide confirmation and/or details?:worship:

Probably a dumb question.. but will they need to close the ride down to fix the yeti? This whole thing is surprising to me- I can't believe that this issue wasn't anticipated and fixed before it was a problem:confused3

All indications are yes.

But it could be a case of closing the ride to do part of the fix, reopening for awhile, then closing temporarily again to complete the fix.

You just don't know.

Yeti will definitely not be fixed??

There is no such thing as "definitely" when it comes to what will or won't happen at Disney.

Reports were that after the change of the year from 1999 to 2000, they were "definitely" going to take down the wand alongside Spaceship Earth within the next year. They did not.

Then, reports were that they were "definitely" going to have to leave the wand up because they could not afford to take it down.

That proved to be inaccurate.

So, concerning the yeti fix...
stay tuned.

I had no idea there was a problem with the yeti. I usually just close my eyes as we go past so maybe that explains it. Is it a noticeable difference? Like what I mean is could you tell that there was something wrong with the Yeti just by looking at it?

honestly, you go by so quick you cant tell if theres anything wrong with the yeti or not.
although ive never seen it when he moved it still looked pretty sweet last week when i was there.

You can... if you have seen her when she DOES work.

When she was operating correctly, she made a "swipe" at guests
with her hand as the vehicle passed nearby.

Now that she is broken, she does not move.

And from many indications, the yeti, herself, IS in working condition.
The PROBLEM is that when she moved, over-and-over, she cracked
the foundation of the room at the point(s) she is mounted.

In order to fix the foundation, some say that the yeti must be
(at least partially) removed.

Do you think that it would be likely that they would start this in the upcoming months? My kids would freak if both EE and SM were down for our trip in two weeks time!!

Oh yes, there is a massive difference in the A mode and the B mode experience.

The Yeti is still an impressive sight, even just standing there. But, when that gigantic arm reaches out to you :scared1:, you really get that "near miss" rush! This is what the A mode looks like.

I agree that they absolutely must fix the problem.::yes::

I see you refer to the Yeti as 'she'. Is this fact or a Robo interpretation? Personally I never bothered to check it out.:rotfl2:

Veterinary gender determinations notwithstanding... ;)

It is sort of a "Disney Legend."

There was much discussion on EE when it was new and many have posted that
the yeti is often called (by CM's and frequent guests,) "Betty, the Yeti."

I have just stayed with that idea in at least some of my EE posts,
although I am sure there are countless CM's who can site chapter and verse why this is NOT true, but,
instead that the EE Yeti is all Himalayan He-man!

;)

Personally, I love EE even in B mode and I'd rather they not have to either close the ride down for months or risk damaging it for an even longer period of time by operating in A mode. In a perfect world they'd find a way to fix it on the fly so it could run as intended, but for me it really doesn't make a huge difference.

We rode EE yesterday 2x and the Yeti definitely swiped its moving arm at us as we passed underneath it both times.

I don't know if I'd rather have a moving Yeti or a coaster without "structural damage"--that just makes me nervous. Wonder what the cost would be to fix it?:confused3

Nothing is on the refurb schedule so far.

Like anything else, that could change by the time you read this.

But, I think you're probably safe for the next few weeks, anyway.

Have a magical trip!! :wizard:

I realize that this poster views the Yeti as the ENTIRE ride, but I think MOST of us don't! (There are OTHER things going on) Actually I find him scarier in B mode, but that's probably just me.

And does anyone think OP seems to be getting HYSTERICAL for no reason. His "title" and the info he quotes don't seem to agree at all.

Perhaps we could save the screaming red letters until we have facts?????

I think it is extremely unlikely that Disney would close two headliners simultaneously heading into the summer peak season. In fact, that might even be one of the reasons nothing has been done to fix the Yeti - SM was breaking down frequently and NEEDED this rehab to keep operating. EE is operational but lacking one effect. Its pretty obvious which closure had to take priority!

We have done it with it operating on A and B mode on the same trip, just days apart, Truthfully, it was cool on the A mode but it was not what made that coaster so much fun for us. Granted I was laughing my head off at dh screaming his off!!!
Thanks for your advice Robo, as always very appreciated!

I knew something wasn't the same about the Yeti, just couldn't figure it out due to it being last year when I rode it. And yes, the movements do make a difference when you see Yeti for the first time.
