Yeti is Back!!

I rode it twice on 9/30 and it was definitely not working. However, there was also no strobe light when I rode.

I noticed that when I rode it towards the beginning of September. The yeti was completely dark.

The general information/rumor/scuttlebutt is that there are serious structural issues with Yeti and to fix him he would have to be removed from Everest...a massive undertaking that would shut the ride down for quite awhile. Not making excuses, he should be fixed, but Disney isn't willing to shut down it's main AK attraction and/or invest the time and money when most people think EE is great already and don't know what they are missing. As someone who has seen Yeti in full working mode, it's really a shame and they should commit to fixing him.

I seem to recall someone with inside information saying it would take a major refurb -- read months -- to get the Yeti back to full operating condition, and that would require rework of the foundation platform the Yeti is standing on...

But we see a lot of people who rode and thought that it was fixed when it wasn't, so we don't get our hopes up on this one any longer. Another way to say that is, "We've lost all faith in Disney and are convinced they won't fix it."

Complete speculation on my part, and really has nothing to do with this topic, but I wonder if they would take the time to fix her properly once the new Avatar land is complete. If they are worried about taking away their main draw at Animal Kingdom for 8 months or longer, then having the new Avatar land complete could help soften that blow quite a bit. Again, I have absolutely nothing to base this on, and the point about not spending the money to fix a still very popular ride is completely valid.

My mom and dad rode it when it was working in the beginning and after it broke and they both said it was working when I rode it. I am really sorry if they were mistaking but i honestly truly thought that he was working. I really hope my parents were right though

For awhile there was a long thread about the Yeti working or not. There were quite a few posters that swore it was working on date such and such.

At one point I created a Google Yeti Moving calender to track the sightings. It seemed the trend was that he/she was only working Thursdays. We all figured it was a union thing.

If they are worried about taking away their main draw at Animal Kingdom for 8 months or longer, then having the new Avatar land complete could help soften that blow quite a bit. Maybe as long as AL has at least one E ticket ride.

We're just back from a two week trip and rode EE multiple times during three visits to AK - the Yeti was definitely not moving and on many rides he was only just visible, no lighting effects. A couple of times there was a flash of light (could be strobe lighting, could be someone attempting to take a picture?) but we must have been on this nearly a dozen times and he didn't move at all any of these times.

Still cool to look at though. We've never seen him in full motion so don't really notice the difference.

I will agree with a PP that he looked to be set in a lower position than normal Disco Yeti but he was not moving

We rode it twice the last week of Sept and had no strobe light either. My daughter still won't believe me that he is there - she didn't see him once. He was dark in the shadows and easy to miss.

Still loved the ride!

to be fair, i couldn't tell he was broken when i first rode it. i only found out afterwards that he was infact broken. so i guess if you haven't seen him for a while it's easy to mistake him for being fully working. he still scared the crap out of me while he was dancing away.... lol.
